We used the Docklands light railway to get to Greenwich, which is how we get there each time we visit. It’s very regular, quick snd you can get around a lot of London using this mode if transport. There is always a member of staff to speak to if you need help. You just have to remember to swipe in and out when you travel.

Today, I received the best customer service that I’ve ever experienced. I noticed I had misplaced one of my belongings upon arrival to London City Airport after getting off a train on the DLR line (I got got on in Canning Town). I panicked and ran for assistance from a staff member. Fortunately I met Liga (a super star) who stayed with me, searched returning trains to the station (going west who had previously gone east) and called a central base so that they could notify all train drivers on the DLR line of the missing item. Within 20 mins Liga confirmed that they had located my missing item at Canning Town and a train driver (another super star) would return it to me when he reached London City Airport. I was over the moon with joy. If Liga can get in touch with me via LinkedIn I’d like to offer both the driver and Liga a token of appreciation for their help and assistance. We need more of these people in the world. Thank you so much. 👏👏👏

Great way to get around East London and it offers some good views. It's part of Transport for London so you can use your contactless or Oyster card, just remember to tap in and tap out as there are not usually gates at DLR stations. Since the trains are driverless, you can sit up front and have a great view.

First time using but a very good service, frequent service and easy to follow station maps, only issue on some stations there are no gates so remember to tap in otherwise as happened to us you get charged a penalty fair , this is not signposted and if you never used the service it’s quite poor

We used the DLR for a good number of journeys whilst staying near the ExCel centre for the bank holiday weekend. You can use your bank card to pay contactlessly just by tapping in at the first station and tapping out at the exit one. Your journeys will get tallied up during the day and are subject to a £9 a day cap if you go over that amount.
The trains are frequent (every ten minutes maximum even on a Sunday/bank holiday), quiet and automated (a guard is on board for the doors etc but it drives itself).
There are several lines running which are easy to swap between at certain larger stations and for those who don’t like being underground, only 3 stations are underground.

Warning to anyone using DLR:
I purchased four single tickets @ £ 6.30 each this morning for DLR, May 15th, using the ticket machine, wanting to use them for today and tomorrow. What an unpleasant surprise when an agent at Tower Hill told me tonight the two tickets destined for tomorrow would not be valid, as all four tickets would ONLY be valid today! But if I went to the DLR station at Tower Gateway, it would exchange the two unused tickets for the next day. If that station was not manned, "which is frequently the case", I should simply ask the agent who is on every train to change the date manually and have it exchanged tomorrow, no problem. I checked with a second tube agent who confirmed exactly the same.
Of course, the DLR station at Tower Gateway was closed and the agent on the DLR train (Jerald) who I spoke to, pretended that it would be "fraud" if he changed the date, that he could not do anything for me and I needed to call customer service the next day (which presumably is as bad on DLR as any customer service of a train company or mobile phone company or airline or, or, and would cost me anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes of my time, simply to get s.o. on the line). He said the instructions given by his colleagues were all wrong and he would not do anything for me.
Talking about "fraud" (the word having been uttered by the agent), I find it highly fraudulous that (i) the ticket machine never mentioned that a ticket is valid for the same day only (and there is no reason why that must be the case, but if it is, it requires a clear warning to customers); (ii) that is says on the ticket "anytime" which means just that (!); and quite disappointing that (iii) two London tube agents would give me wrong advice and (iv) the DLR train agent did not feel empowered to set this obvious wrong right again to the satisfaction of the customer. Therefore, I can only give DLR the poorest rating on my experience. The company owes me £ 12.60 for which it has wrongly denied its service.

We took the DLR back into the city after travelling on the Emirates Air Lines and checking out London City Airport. One station was closed due to engineering but there was a bus and helpful staff to assist. At the next stop, the staff gave us great advice on connecting to bank. These are driverless trains and are part of TFL so you can use your contactless payment card and benefit from daily caps.

I recently used this service to travel between London Euston and my hotel in the Docklands area where I was attending a convention at the ExCel Centre.
The service was clean, punctual and convenient. I need a little help working out where to change trains but found both passengers and staff who were helpful and able to point me in the right direction.

One of the joys since it's inception is the DLR which has proved a boon to reaching parts of South East London, from central Bank to Lewisham (via Canary Wharf, Tower Gateway to Beckton, Stratford to Woolwich Arsenal, attractions on route and plenty to observe. Best of all is the close proximity of Hotels and superb service for London City Airport.
