This statute is in a small blocked off area near a bridge on the Thames. The statute itself is not particularly interesting.

James Abbott McNeill Whistler was perhaps Chelsea’s most famous resident artist famous in particular for his impressionistic landscapes and portraits of society women. Although he died at 74 Cheyne Walk in 1903 it was not until his centenary that plans for a statue in his honour came to fruition following an appeal launched by Chelsea Arts Club supported by Kensington & Chelsea’s then M.P. MIchael Portillo and the then President of the RA Phillip King. Even then its installation was delayed for two years following wrangling with Transport for London which owned the scrap of land on the north side of Battersea Bridge on which it is situated. Cast in bronze it is the work of Nicholas Dimbleby, the brother of David and Jonathan. He said that he wanted it to be impressionistic as if Whistler has made his own self-portrait in clay. Fitting that it overlooks Battersea Bridge the larger previous version of which was one of Whistler’s most celebrated subjects. It is also directly opposite 96 Cheyne Walk where Whistler lived for a while.

Right at the corner of the bridge in a little walkway. Small statute staring out at the river. Lived 1834 to 1903. Nice to see.

Another great statue along the pretty Cheyne Walk in Chelsea. Great way to experience the city and river. Plus you get to see interesting statues like this one

This statue stands in tribute to James Abbott McNeill Whistler, a 19th century American artist best known for his portraiture work. He lived for a time in Chelsea and also painted the Battersea Bridge, which together connection his statue to this location.
It's a fairly simple bronze statue, perhaps alluding to James Abbott McNeill Whistler attitude to art for art's sake and aversion to sentimentality and moral allusion in painting.

Was very pleased to view this statue again on a recent visit to Chelsea.
Unfortunately the 'map marker' has been moved since my initial review and is incorrect.
You will find the statue in Battersea Bridge Gardens on the North West side of the Battersea Bridge.
I would like to correct a minor mistake in my earlier review. Richard Dimbleby was the father of the statue's creator Nicholas, and Nicholas' brothers are Jonathan and David.
It's wonderful both that this monument to the influential artist should exist and that it should be here, at the site of some of his most famous and evocative paintings.

Скромная статуя Джеймса Аббота находится в небольшом скверике, открыли ее примерно в 2005 году, с тех пор она стала достопримечательностью этого райончика

In truth it isn't the most attractive of statues to notabilities and it is on a large, ugly plinth but as a lover of art I think it's great that we have it. James Abbot McNeill Whistler was a wit, dandy and aesthete and the statue's creator Nicholas Dimbleby (brother of the broadcasters Richard and David) has captured these aspects of his character well.
When American-born Whistler arrived in England after time living in Paris, Chelsea was where he chose to live. Many of his paintings are of this area, including some 'nocturnes' featuring the Thames, Battersea Bridge and Cremorne Gardens.
The statue should have been completed in time for the centenary of the artist's death (July 2003) but after delays was finally unveiled, by Viscount Chelsea, in September 2005. It is in the small garden on the north-west side of Battersea Bridge, in Cheyne Walk.
I viewed it for the first time after a private visit to Crosby Hall nearby.
