‪This place has had a shooting and someone burnt to death just outside. And too many minor crimes to list.‬

‪I have been visiting Abbots Park for over 50 years and it is still only an average attraction.
Tennis is the main plus, as over the years the courts have always been of good quality for public courts.
The changing rooms though recently upgraded are basic with no shower facilities, in fact there are no visible toilets for the entire park either. At the top of the park, there is a good play park for young children which is well served with swings, roundabouts and slides etc.
However, the middle of the park is grassland and unfortunately it is of a poor standard, too bumpy for ball games and unsightly if just looking for somewhere to relax.
Still, I shall continue to use as a stroll through to watch the tennis!!‬

‪Abbotts Park is a large green recreational square in Leyton. It is located north of Midland Road in a block that connects to Leyton High Road. The park has undergone a series of renovations over the past couple of years but now appears to be back in full working order.

There are two halves to Abbotts Park. The half furthest from the High Road is the play area. It includes a fairly large playground for children. There are half a dozen swings, a couple of forts to clamber over and slide down, a few balance obstacles, a roundabout, and a challenging modern climbing frame that gets very slippery when wet or cold. The climbing frame is dangerous for small children.

It seems that this part of the world retains water easily so the playground is often muddy. Aside from squelching through mud, the playground is well maintained and clean. The various apparatus are in ok working order but some are beginning to show signs of strain.

Along with the playground is an adult play area - an outdoor gym. This is typically used by fit, relatively young men. There are a few light weights to pump.

The second half of Abbott's Park is the sport area. There is one space sometimes used for a kickabout. Mostly though this is a tennis location. Half a dozen tennis courts are a rarity in this part of London. There is a small charge for their hire. The hard courts stand up to wear and are usable in any reasonable weather. The conditions tend to be quite good as do some of the players. Some of the knock-ups are decent quality for rank amateurs.

Dog walking is popular around the outskirts of the park. A path runs around the outskirts of the park but it is not a particularly long journey.

Abbott's Park is not necessarily somewhere to go out of the way to find. Tennis lovers can have a good time here and there is enough to entertain some children for a short period. It is not the best of childrens play areas though due to the lack of drainage and subsequent mud.‬
