‪This is an Anglican church - not Roman Catholic. It is a very peaceful oasis in beautiful but very busy Kensington. Beatrice Potter was married here and impressive names may be found on the wall memorials. Take a moment to sit in this peaceful setting, light a candle for a loved one and maybe say a prayer.‬

‪George Gilbert Scott's Penultimate Church Building!‬

‪So many churches were restored in the Victorian period but this one was completely demolished and rebuilt using all the experience of probably the most famous architect of the era! The main building cost nearly £50,000 to complete by 1872 and the spire/tower cost another £24,000 by 1879. This was hugely expensive and you can see why it might be mistaken for a cathedral! Some memorials from the old church are mounted on the walls, along with many others from the 1870s onwards. Despite its modernity, the cloistered entrance from the corner of Kensington High Street and Kensington Church Street makes out that it is much older, as does the very grand West Door.

Alice Kipling (mother of Rudyard Kipling) married John Lockwood Kipling at the church on 18th March 1865 (the previous building). Isambard Kingdom Brunel (Civil engineer) married Mary Elizabeth Horsley in the old building on 5th July 1836. Helen Beatrix Potter (Children's Author) married William Heelis at the new church on 15th October 1913. So there was a fair list of the great and the good associated with the church in a very well off part of the capital over the years.

Well worth popping in if you are in the area, as we were. There are some useful leaflets on its history, including a trail for children (and their parents!), and the website gives much more detail. Look out for the 1:80 scale model built of 41,000+ matchsticks!‬

‪Gioiellino gotico alla fine sud-ovest di Hyde Park‬

‪Chiesa da ricercare, non riportata sulle guide turistiche, è un vero gioiellino gotico. Entrata da Kensington, vi si accede da un corridoio pergolato che affaccia su un chiostro. L’interno è allo stesso tempo semplice ma imponente. Molto bello i vetri cattedrali sui due lati opposti della chiesa. Ingresso gratuito‬

‪Peaceful love abounds there‬

‪This peaceful church is in a hustle-bustle part of Kensington High Street and although I was not looking to find a church something drew me into the quiet and peaceful chapel and I realized immediately that I was there for a reason. It is not like a magnificent cathedral but you are enveloped immediately with a feeling of love and that all will be right with the world. I took a hand leaflet and keep it with me at all times. I make copies and give them to all my friends and anyone I think could benefit from the words. I just read tonight this was Princess Diana's church when she lived in Kensington Palace. I had no idea until tonight and always go there when I get a chance to visit London.‬

‪St Mary Abbots is a very old and historical site. Roman Catholic Church located in very busy area, yet so peaceful and quiet. Beautiful architecture and grounds. We were able to sit, pray, reflect, and light candles in this spiritual sanctuary. ‬

‪ロンドンの穴場教会？‬

‪ハイストリートケンジントンのすぐ近くにある教会です。ハイドパークから見ることもできます。
立地的には悪くはないのですが、ガイドブックでは大々的に取り上げられていないので穴場なのかなと思います。
中は落ち着いていますし、綺麗なステンドグラスも楽しめるのでお勧めです。‬

‪Ubicada en el barrio de Kensington, sus orígenes se remontan al año 1262, cuando los benedictinos fundaron en este lugar una iglesia dedicada a la Virgen María. Después de varias reformas, la primitiva iglesia fue demolida, construyéndose la actual entre 1860 y 1872, en estilo neogótico y con la torre más alta de Londres, con una altura de 85 metros, conservando algunos elementos de las construcciones anteriores, como varios monumentos funerarios, los más antiguos datados a mediados del siglo XVII. Alrededor de la misma se conserva un cementerio, así como una escuela primaria fundada en 1707. Yo la visité con motivo de la celebración del concierto benéfico Christmas Carol Concert, celebrado el 4 de diciembre de 2019, con la actuación estelar de Katie Melua, pudiendo disfrutar no solo de su belleza sino de su magnífica acústica y de su precioso claustro, muy original, que se extiende por el exterior de la iglesia con acceso directo a su puerta principal. La visita es gratuita y el horario de apertura, de 07.00 a 18.00 horas de lunes a viernes, de 09.00 a 18.00 horas los sábados, y de 07.00 a 19.00 horas los domingos.‬
