‪Easy parking and level walking to entrance.
Beautifully created, complex and visibly stunning gardens. Even more fascinating due to the fact that they have been created over just 40yrs on what was effectively scrub land. History of the garden and house renovation on display.

Nicely stocked, interesting plant sales and small cafe with good quality simple food and drink.

Very enjoyable.‬

‪£12 a ticket, £4 for a map. We’ll come back to that.

We brought a picnic which was not allowed to be brought in, honestly given the Disney level of prices in the cafe and entry fee, you would have thought bringing a sandwich and tidying up after yourself is not unreasonable.

The £4 map, of which there is no free alternative, is poorly drawn, navigation is nearly impossible due to the poor labelling and lack of signage around the gardens.

The gardens themselves are the only redeeming thing, a few interesting plants and areas, if you’re able to find them on the map. A bit repetitive, lots of tulips and hedges. Disappointingly lots of paths and greenhouse areas that look beautiful but you’re not able to access. Honestly what’s the point!

Half the price would have been fair value, I’ll be sticking to National Trust areas.‬

Firstly, it is not “£4 for a map” but for a 38 page guide to the garden. We used to allow picnics in the garden but it was abused by a minority who set up picnics in busy areas or inside garden pavilions, spoiling it for other visitors. A “few” interesting plants – really! As for not being able to access “beautiful” areas this is not correct. All four display greenhouses are open to visitors, only the two stock greenhouses are closed which are working areas for the garden, also all paths are accessible to visitors with just three service areas excluded containing our stores, delivery and workshop areas. It is noteworthy that every other review left by this reviewer is a negative one star.

‪I usually visit annually with my elderly mother who uses a wheelchair when she gets tired but can walk a little. Because of this I have never managed to see the whole garden as it is definitely difficult to manage a chair over lawn and some of the areas that have steps or very rough gravel and no ramp, or areas that require a distance to walk to.

This time I came alone and I really enjoyed the wider garden and saw areas I had not been able to access before without leaving Mum somewhere, which I wasn’t prepared to do.

I adore this garden. It is my absolute favourite and lifts the soul. The swathes of tulips planting were magnificent. The colour combinations really breathtaking and the wilderness had some surprisingly interesting areas. I could sit and let it all soak in. Sublime!

I had a salad lunch which needed more bread and more ham. A bit meagre for the price and disappointing.

A paper map would be great, especially if you are a regular visitor and don’t need a booklet. There are often new areas to discover.

I think all the other comments about wheelchair use should be taken on board. Shallow gravel can be hard work but the chipped paths are very good. I know it changes some of the feel of a garden but you guys are innovative and hopefully can give it some thought. Mum is 91 and can’t walk far now and I’d love for her to return as usual with me next year. We are loyal fans. Thank you for this very special place.‬

‪We had a lovely visit on a very sunny, spring day. My 14 month old had the time of her life running around the gardens - stopping to stroke the dogs and friendly cat. The only negative was the crazy prices at the tea room. It cost us £30 for two sandwiches, a coffee, tea and scone. The sandwich was a tiny slither of a baguette and not worth the money at all. That aside, however, a lovely visit (maybe just bring your own picnic!)‬

‪An absolute gem. Unfortunately we only had a few hours, you need to plan a whole day to see and enjoy the whole garden and it’s definitely worth it. So many beautiful and often unusual plants as well as the fantastic design with surprises around every corner. As well as the gardens the tea rooms are excellent as are all the plants for sale. Definitely a great day out.‬

‪We visited here with my terminally ill (cancer) father, who is so weak he is now in a wheelchair. We checked that the gardens are suitable for wheelchairs on the website and 8 of us visited last week. We did ask if there were any concessions applicable for my dad, as we knew he would not cope with a full day there, but were told no. This aside, the person at the ticket office needs to learn to be a bit more welcoming to say the least.
The grounds are very nice, although visiting a month later may have been more lush, but we did not have a month to wait.
The paths are most certainly NOT suitable for a wheelchair, and dad suffered the indignity of being dragged backwards over shingle paths as the wheels got stuck. There were some grassed paths and paved that we could use, but I do not think it is right to describe it as suitable for wheelchairs as a wheelchair user will not get the full tour.
The cafe was very nice, if a tad overpriced.‬

‪This is a lovely little garden, easy to find and well laid out with various different habitats to explore. The tea toom offers a good selection of things to eat with some yummy gluten free cakes and lovely staff and there is plenty of parking.‬

‪We visited over the Easter weekend. We spent just over two hours there, but really should have allowed more time to sit and relax, taking in the scenery and listening to the birdsong. The staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly, from reception to the tearoom. The garden was awash with colour, from the tree blossom to the tulips. There was a host of surprises, from the aviary with the cockatiels to the llamas/alpacas (not sure what precisely they were), with some stunning garden installations such as water features. Alan even spent a few minutes chatting about the history of the site and how it has been developed over the years. It's an inspiring place and highly recommended. Even my seventeen-year old son commented 'It's a nice change from the National Trust... those places can be very similar.'‬

‪Never knew about these gardens until I saw a TV program last year & after doing some online research decided to make a visit in Mar 22 as we were going to be in the area. I made sure that the gardens would be suitable for an electric wheelchair as my wife couldn’t manage 32 acres of gardens on foot.
We paid our entrance fee & bought a guide book as well. The lady in the kiosk said the gardens were 95% accessible for wheelchairs- I would seriously suggest it should be about 50%. Certainly around the cafes, plant sales, toilets & to the front of the Vicarage it was level access but from here on it wasn’t accessible as much.
We made our way via a bark laid path to the various areas & for example where the fountains are, there are roughly 5-6 steps to climb to see the fountain, so I was able to see it but not my wife, well not until I found a separate level route for her.
Back on the bark path, we came across the Mediterranean garden which was in different stages of plant growth. My wife was able to traverse some of the flatter paths but crossing a wood bridge was scary for her with me patiently guiding her - potentially she could have come a cropper here. We then followed other people towards the next gardens only to find steps & no ramps & no other alternative but to turn around & find level access elsewhere. We must have missed our turning off the bark path as we came across a lawned area that had been churned up in wet conditions & so my wife’s wheelchair got bogged down & it took all my strength to move it for her. By the end (2 hours later), her mode of transport was out of power & we headed for the cafe.
The staff in the cafe were very chatty & I felt they could see my frustration. The chocolate cake & coffee were very well appreciated.
Personally if I had known about the accessibility issues we wouldn’t have gone which is a shame as being a gardener myself I can see how much love & effort as gone into these gardens & of course being March, there weren’t many plants in bloom - I imagine in the summer this will be a blaze of colour.
What’s needed is signage & numbering to tie up with the book but most importantly of all is the provision of ramps where possible please especially by the Mediterranean garden. My wife has said that the bark paths were okay but the gravelled paths were difficult as well.
Maybe we will come back one year as we live in Norfolk. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but we certainly didn’t get value for money.‬

We regret that you found it difficult in places to access parts of the garden. We have had other very positive reviews from wheelchair users. The two small areas where you had difficulties due to steps, comprise no more than a quarter of an acre and half an acre out of a thirty-two acre garden. Both areas as you did discover are accessible but by different routes. I note you found the bark paths satisfactory but gravel paths were difficult. We deliberately do not have deep gravel here, it is only used as a decorative sprinkling on top of a compacted hard base. With regard to the churned area of lawn I specifically went and tried to find this but no areas of our lawns were churned up. Some grass in shaded areas was still damp and may have been difficult for wheelchairs.
