‪Short visit, but well worth it!‬
الأصدقاء • ديسمبر 2021
‪The Viking centre is the perfect way to appreciate this history of the city. The recreation of the Viking street was really detailed, which made the entire experience immersive and impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful, all of which were clearly knowledgeable. In the museum section we found some of the artefact information to be very text based compared to the earlier section, however not a problem as you can pick and chose what you read. More staff to answer questions in the final area would keep the immersive experience going, and feel less like a museum. Would thoroughly recommend.‬

‪Weird and wonderful‬
بمفردك • ديسمبر 2021
‪I actually really enjoyed this place, your greeted by people in Viking attire, sometimes playing a musical instrument which is bizarre but I loved. It’s not very big you’ll be out in less than an hour. I think the main attraction in Jorvik Viking centre is definitely the slow moving ride taking you through the Viking village where you will see amazingly realistic moving Viking dummies in their natural habitat and even one on the toilet making straining noises and you will see their moving animals too which is so weird but wonderful and fascinating and really brings the village to life. After the ride you go through to a museum where you will see items found in the archaeology site and even a few skeletons found which was a bit gruesome and there will be staff in their Viking clothing dotted around to ask questions but my head was spun and I didn’t know if they were real or dummies, crazy but I loved it. There is a gift shop selling great affordable pieces all Viking related of course. But on the whole, fantastic!‬

‪Always worth a visit‬
نوفمبر 2021
‪We did not book ahead so had to wait for others who had the foresight to do so, and we were allowed in at the end of the group.
While we waited for the ride we were given a speech by a lad dressed as a viking and explaining about the dig beneath our feet and what life was like in a viking home. Quite interesting and made the wait pass in no time.
We were given clear explanation of how to enter the cars and select languages for the tour, and then we were off into the viking era.
The animatronics have advanced over the years, but the smell remains the same. The narration and explanations were insightful but no overloaded with detail. Some of the characters have mouths and eyes that move in a mildly uncanny valley sort of way, but it adds to the fun.
The museum at the end has plenty of artefacts from the digs, and back stories to some of the pieces and skeletons.
The gift shop is a bit meh and small.

Will always be up for going round again next time we are in town.‬

‪Good Museum‬
زوجان • نوفمبر 2021
‪Visited the museum and had a good time as we had never been before!

It is not really a museum but more of a ride where you sit in a carriage and go around different settings. The experience only lasts around 30 mins, but the characters are amazing and looked so realistic!

The man informed us the tickets are valid to use again for the rest of the year which is great for maybe young children or family who can pass along the ticket, but as a couple we Wouldn’t feel the need to go again within the year.

Would recommend to everyone to try atleast once! :)‬

‪An excellent hour out doing something a little different. Forces / Blue light cards accepted‬
الأصدقاء • نوفمبر 2021
‪We arrived early and were kept informed about where to queue etc by a lovely chatty lady who kept us moving as and when needed.
I had pre-booked, all that was needed was a surname from the gentleman and we had to show our discount card (Blue Light) to confirm the discount.
We were then directed down the stairs. Now, I did find this bit a tad confusing. I thought we were standing over an actual Viking dig site and the glass floor was to protect it and it took several questions for me to understand that nothing there is real, only plastic or whatever. I do find this a little sad that we are not seeing actual found archeology regardless of how interesting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the ride through the Viking town. Everything g was very well explained and clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into producing it. Many different languages are catered for here too. Good job!
On exiting the ride, the real ‘treasures’ begin, many actual artefacts and skeletons of Viking times. All extremely well displayed with good information.
We had bought a coin blank and a guidebook when we pre-booked and here you can find the man who strikes your coin for you. Clearly a very knowledgeable man and my other half had him chatting for ages.
We spent about an hour in here and I felt it is one of the best historic centres I have been to. My only quibble is about the reproduction dig site, but the rest and the staff, all very good. Thank you!‬

‪GOOD 90 MINS LOOK AT VIKING YORK‬
زوجان • نوفمبر 2021
‪Clever exhibition of Viking York. Good well presented information, clever delivery of the site and the history with interesting artefacts. The site is right in the middle of a modern shopping centre which contrasts vividly with many of the other highlights of the City but still delivers value for money. Best to book ahead if busy as avoids standing in the pot luck queue.‬

‪Interesting but short experience‬
نوفمبر 2021
‪I had visited back in the late 80's when it had first opened as had my Wife so we were interested to go again during our city break in York. The Jorvik experience involves a trip in a small car / booth around various moving dioramas of the city as it was back in the Viking era. Narration explains the scenes and what people are doing. The ride lasts around 5-7 minutes with a short display before and a longer one after. However, if you don't read the captions and look at the display, the whole thing would be over in about 15 minutes, although you are able to return as many times as you like with your ticket over a 12 month period.

The display was certainly interesting and the condition of some of the artefacts they found is quite incredible. There are a few staff members around dressed in period clothing who will talk and explain things to you.

Overall we were glad we went but felt some of the explanations in the dioramas could have been more timely, as the car had moved by the time you had identified what was being spoken about, it had moved on. It was also not clear how a wheelchair bound person would be able to access the moving car to see the diorama, as the seats were quite cramped.

Whilst we may not immediately return, maybe in another 30 years we will come back and see it again!‬

‪Enjoyed it!‬
نوفمبر 2021
‪Having visited with the kids about 25 years ago, I was interested to see how the centre had changed. I really enjoyed it. The ride is obviously the star of the show and is quite different from the old days. The characters are very lifelike and the travel pods allow you to get much nearer to the exhibit. The exhibition of artifacts is also well presented and interesting. The 'Vikings' were very helpful and knowledgeable. Booking in advance, I would say, is a must. The queues of people who had not booked were very long. Also I wouldn't recommend for very small children as the ride is quite dark and they may find the figures and noises scary.‬
