‪Lovely 4 hour walk.‬
بمفردك • نوفمبر 2021
‪The walk around the dam is 4 hours to walk it. I walked it all with no stops from the cafe round & back to the cafe, my feet were sore after because I didn't wear the most comfortable shoes. There is inclines and declines & if it has been raining you will get wet/muddy shoes. I haven't cycled here but can imagine it is a lot of fun, the paths are excellent to cycle on & you can hire bikes in the summer season from the Cafe. It was very peaceful midweek to walk around & beautiful. There is a toilet at the cafe with refreshments. ‬

‪A reservoir with history‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪The walk from the car park at Fairholmes to visit the dam and reservoir is easy and mostly flat. The dam has some information boards explaining the history of the site including its link to the Dambusters. The reservoir was very low when we visited but the views across the water were still good.‬

‪Iconic and historic‬

‪An iconic structure with a rich history, not least the story of the Dambusters. The scenery is magnificent. Good snacks available at the car park cafe. Plenty of paid and free car parking. You feel you are in another world when walking in the quiet woods‬

‪DARK PEAK 3 RESERVOIRS TRAIL‬
الأصدقاء • سبتمبر 2021
‪Cycled the 3 reservoirs trail, starting & finishing at Fairholmes car park. Rode clockwise round the Derwent, Howden & Ladybower reservoirs ending back at Fairholmes for a total distance of 15.5 miles.

Track varies; you are on tarmacked road up to the ‘King’s Tree’, then on gravel up to the old Derwent pack horse bridge at Slippery Stones, then there is the roughest section on the turn south back down to Howden Dam. For this section alone, this route is probably best done on an MTB bike with wide off road tyres. I managed it on a hybrid with road tyres but don’t do this unless you are an experienced rider.

The track improves again after Derwent Dam & is road again through the higher parts of the drowned Derwent Village that still remain (Derwent Lane) then it changes to a easily rideable compact gravel/hard surface once again down to Ashopton Viaduct (A57). You ride across this on a very wide pavement, then turn right & follow the road back up to Fairholmes.

Decent ride when you get the views of the reservoirs & the dams from between the trees. The ride does involve some ups & downs though there is the option to cut the ride short, cutting across the south of the Derwent Dam from Millbrook if you don’t want to cycle around the northern section of the Ladybower reservoir ;)‬

‪Beautiful piece of History‬

‪Another visit to Derwent Dams this morning and this place never disappoints. Natural beauty and a man made dam surrounded with history. The most famous bring the Dambusters. There is a small visitor Center and café with a bike facility there.‬

‪I highly recommend visiting if someone is in the area, our trip started from the Visitor center, you can choose three different routes, depending on who has how much time. The green route is about 2 hours, black over an hour and red about 40 minutes. We chose the red route. Very pleasant journey, beautiful landscapes. The dogs were very happy. Breathtaking views. ‬

‪Impressive construction‬
يوليو 2021
‪We were lucky enough to get a space at Fairholmes Visitor Centre, which has toilets, a cafe, bike hire centre, information centre and a few benches and picnic tables which were being well used. There are different walking routes for various abilities and preferences. We chose the black route which although short involved a fairly steep climb which was challenging enough in the hot sunshine. There are information panels which tell the very interesting story of the construction of the dam.‬

‪Fantastic views of the dams‬
مايو 2021
‪Started a wonderful circular walk from here (parked at the Holmside Visitor Centre - which gets extremely busy on a bank holiday - and made worse by drivers who are unable to park considerately! And parking charge is£5 and has to be cash). The views over the dams are spectacular. Well worth a visit!‬

‪Stunning scenic drive‬
يونيو 2021
‪Leave the main road just after crossing the ladybower bridge signed ‘Derwent dams’ drive as far as the visitor centre but if you go on a weekday the road is open to go up to the derwent and Howden dams. This is just the most stunning road to drive, about 6 miles and is probably the best scenic drive in the UK. I kid you not. Picnic spots, reservoir overviews, fabulous trees and smooth road. Reaching the end you come back the same way and is probably better viewing than the outward journey.‬

‪Wonderful trip‬
زوجان • مايو 2021
‪Was pleasantly surprised at the beauty and ease of our visit.
The drive in was as beautiful as the dam.
Parking was £3 for 2 hours or £5 for the day.
We got there for 9am and parked fine but it does fill up quickly
Little cafe, toilets and bike hire available
I recommend you take a picnic as there’s so many beautiful places to eat!‬
