Me and my partner absolutely loved this walk! We printed out the map and route from the national Peak district. It became quite handy at the top where there is no reception and people where asking to take pictures of our map to work out where they were.
Make sure to take plenty of fluids and some snacks.
The scenery is breathtaking we got some fab pictures!
Highly recommend

Stayed at Hayfield Campsite in our campervan. Excellent site, good position and friendly Camping and Caravanning Club team. Excellent Sportsman's Rest pub nearby. Great cycling options along Trail linking with New Mills and then canal system. Also Hayfield is on the Pennine Bridleway ...Excellent Gravel/MTB cycling. Good paths up to the Kinder Scout plateau. We also spent a day (driving to) visiting Chatsworth House and Estate . Fantastic property in excellent condition.

Another stunning hike onto Kinder Scout. I was able to visit several of the aircraft crash sites off the main paths and pay my respects. The x2 1954 North American Sabres, the Hampden, Handley Page, Heyford and Wellingtons from WWII plus the Avro Anson and Dragon Rapides. The Dark Peak plane crash sites books and the 'Kinder Scout' facebook page were useful source of information in planning my visit.

I went hiking here during the last bank holiday, only issue apart from fuel getting here was having to park in a field at £5.00 charge for most of the day.
Whenever i've seen this place on the map, I've compared it to Snowdonia or the lakes. If you live in the vicinity of the Peaks I'd recommend this trip over one or two days.
The hike to Kinder Scout is quite flat from Edale, but it's a walk that will take all day and when reaching Jacobs ladder is does turn into uphill steps, I didn't do the entire hike but I've heard the waterfall is really worth visiting.
There's also Mam Tor in the North East direction. If you love the countryside and hiking this is for you

Last here in about 1970 on a school cadet force ‘arduous training’ week walking as a group across long tracts of the Peak District. The 360 panorama from the top of Kinder Scout is as overwhelming now as it was then. Powerful, unspoilt, tantalising, especially the depth and distance, dark lush greens often topped by somber greys in the clouds.

Went up Kinder Scout primarily as a warm up for Ben Nevis. It was a long walk out from Edale to Kinder Low & then on to Kinder Downfall before returning. I enjoyed Jacobs ladder. 10.6 miles, 26,500 steps. Yep, good warm up!

Nice views at the top but no gift shop
We had spent around 4-5hours walking around and exploring the routes leading the top. Fantastic visuals, quite tough climbs and scrambles in places.
Sat and had a sandwich at the Kinder Low trig point, it was quite windy, maybe would be good if someone built some toilets up there too as after a couple of drinks we both needed to go number1.
The route to Kinder Downfall is worth the effort to walk, it’s quiet round that section, we decided to navigate back to Edale across the top of the boggy marshland.
This is very challenging and requires patience, good compass skills if the weather isn’t clear, and some good waterproof boots as you will probably get bogged down at least once.
Persevere and you are rewarded with total isolation and it’s great.
We took the Grinsbrook Clough scramble down… that’s a tough 200metres of vertical descent… definitely easier to climb up it rather than down it I would imagine!
All in all an epic day out, sad that there wasn’t a gift shop at the top so we could buy a souvenir letting or pencil case though.

Hello, I'd like to take the walk from Edale during the last week of January. I am not familiarize at all with the path and I would like to have your advices about the starting time and weather conditions. I've read that there are no signals during the path, is that true? Also, do you recomend to take the path by my own? Do people make groups totake the walk together?
Cheers.

Thanks .

I think if you was to just do a small part of it then yes however its quite steep in places and probably not the safest for children that young as under 5.

Park in Hayfield, use ordnance survey map OL1. Look for Kinder Reservoir, then walk up past this and you'll find waterfalls, rock formations and a decent hill climb

How difficult is the walk for someone not fully able? i.e. how long will it take? It looks amazing and I really want to do it but have arthritis.

It might be rather tiring as the ground is uneven and there are quite some steps on the way up Jacobs Ladder. It would be a challenge so I would recommend going with a friend who is patient and will stick by you. I would give it at least 8 hours maybe more.

Jacobs ladder, park at Upper Booth, a solid surface and is easy to follow path. A two year old is going to struggle with the terrain and distance.

Does anyone know how long it will take to get from Hayfield to Kinder Downfall? Not fussed about doing the full route/walk but needing to make it to the Downfall.

I usually park at Bowden Bridge car park or side of the road for free parking if I'm doing Kinder Scout from Hayfield end.
It is just over 3 miles from the car park to the Kinder Downfall walking past the Kinder Reservoir.
It would take approx. 1.5 hours at a steady pace as it can be a little difficult; there are great views along the way.
The paths are well trodden and easy to navigate. You could do a slightly different route down to the reservoir to save repeating yourself if you fancy.
Hope you enjoy the walk

To be honest it's not a challenging route most ways, theres a local centre with a map and depending on how long you have to spend you can pick a route
Hi, im trying to find the postcode for the walk... Can anyone help me please? Thanks

Hello, Do you mind telling me where you started the trek and did you need a map?

Hi
The best route would be from the Hayfield car park over the bridge and start the ascend. It is a well trodden pathway, so no need for a map. I would recommend going on a free walking tour with the Peak District Rangers as their local knowledge and experience is simply magnificent. Plz just call them up to arrange a free tour. Plz see my review if you get the chance.
Happy rambling !
