‪Disappointed at customer service‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪I had taken my children there many years ago and looked forward to taking my 6 year old granddaughter. She was really upset and frightened by that immersive entrance of noise, flashing film of the steel industry. Eventually I calmed her down and asked if there was another way in. That was then fine but she was on edge all afternoon and didn't really relax to enjoy any of it.
I then wrote to the organisation suggesting that both entrances were offered right at the start, rather than my having to ask if there were another way less noisy. I was polite and tried to be constructive. I heard nothing back so today I rang to emphasise my concerns. The lady I spoke to was very dismissive and unhelpful.
At the very least I think a "thank you for your concerns we will think about it" would have been appropriate‬

‪We enjoyed all the exhibits, the steam locomotive particularly. All the staff were very knowledgeable and engaging to talk to. The chips were very good too. We had a super time wandering round, sharing old memories and making new memories. Thank you‬

‪August day out‬
أغسطس 2021
‪We sort of knew what to expect having been to The Black Country Museum many times.
It was very quiet on the Friday we visited.
Due to Covid restrictions certain number allowed in the shops etc and also i think this deterred the ususlaly bringing crowds together as they would normally by putting on a bit of acting, singing in the pub etc..
Fish and chips in dripping with a picked onion were lovely ‬

‪Authentic, not chocolate-box nor patronising.‬
أكتوبر 2021
‪I will start by echoing the concerns re parking. The Ironbridge ANPR machines don't work very well and sometimes claim to not recognise your registration plate, but you only find this out when you go to pay. Do take a photo of the display just in case. You are invited to key in your number and pay.
This is really sad because Blists Hill, like the other sites, is a wonderful day out, for all ages (though you do need to be mobile in order to visit the whole site as it's built on a hill) The visit begins with an immersive video presentation to create an idea of what Ironbridge was like in its heyday: the noise, the perilous occupations, the molten iron being poured, the smoke and steam. There is no commentary or subtitling yet you learn more about the processes than any patronising TV documentary with a celebrity voiceover will ever tell you. Then you go outside to a town assembled from actual buildings rescued from demolition and re-erected at Blists Hill. Shops from the grocer's to the bakers are staffed by people who will happily and unpatronisingly, tell you about the premises and how the goods were sold. The grocer showed how paper bags were made, told us things about tea we never knew, and made my day because he had a treacle can which was used for refilling ceramic or glass treacle pots. The chemist's, with all its jars containing poisons and substances you'd never be allowed to buy now, was, of course, very popular, and the bakery sold good shortbread There's so much to see. Another highlight is the working locomotive built by local apprentices some 50 years ago. It takes the design of Trevithick's first high pressure steam engine (which was constructed at Coalbrookdale) and completes his project by turning it into a locomotive engine. There's a cottage in which a family of 10 once lived - tiny! - and a toll-house that housed the tollkeeper and his large family.
The costumed "inhabitants" who provide information or just walk the streets among the visitors don't look neat and well dressed; the clothes are authentically old and worn, threadbare, stained. It's very realistic, as are the clothes hanging up to dry inside the homes.
One of the best such experience I've had. There are a couple of cafes and sets of toilets. These are authentically 21st century! There's also a small adventure playground and a carousel.‬

‪Lovely day ruined by unnecessary parking fine‬
العائلة • أكتوبر 2021
‪We love Blists Hill; and a wonderful day out, only for it to be ruined by a £60 parking fine.
The machine in the car park was showing as “out of order” and the sign says payment within 28 days.

I took photos of the broken machine and the sign, with the intent of paying after returning from a family holiday.

However, we received a £60 penalty for not paying in 48 hours, which I apealled, with the photos of the unclear sign and broken machine. The parking company inferred twice in writing that I was lying and the charge would stand.

I see from other reviews that others have been caught by the same scam.

We will not be returning unless Blists Hill refund our money.‬

‪Great introduction to the past‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪Talking to the shopkeepers and skilled tradespeople. Listening to their stories so well put. The authenticity of the buildings was proven by the fact that many buildings had been dismantled brick by brick and rebuilt at the museum. The grocer was very funny and full of stories, A must have is a cone of chips from the fish shop.‬

‪well worth the entry fee‬

‪We took the family and although the teenagers were not really interested the four adults enjoyed it all. Shame that some exhibits were not open (the clay mine) but an enjoyable outing.‬

‪Step back into history‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪A nice step back into history, it’s quite a large location and sometimes it was unclear which was to go, they could certainly do with some more signs with a suggested direction and a description of what some items were.

Good for everyone although rather uneven so be careful if you are unsteady on your feet, probably not very accessible for wheelchair users.‬

‪Great day ruined by parking fine‬
العائلة • سبتمبر 2021
‪Our lovely day has been ruined by the parking fine. Despite it costing £20 per person there is an additional charge for parking. However, nowhere is this communicated as being an addition to the price of admission. So I got a £60 fine. Not impressed, and judging by other reviews, this is a common experience!‬

‪Great day out‬
العائلة • سبتمبر 2021
‪Great day out. Particularly enjoyed the pub singing and the fish and chips. The fair ground games and the sweet shop also a big hit with my kids. The only thing that spoilt it for me were the selfish dog owners who didn’t pick up their dog poo and let their dogs off lead.‬
