Richard lll at the RSC
My first visit post lockdown and shielding as I am classed as clinically vulnerable. This was a big step. I found the booking online and printing your own tickets really easy and safe. I ordered my brochure and collected it from masked staff, no bar staff wore masks and very few visitors either, so it is not a covid respectful place to be. Your very close when you go to your seats and literally as visitors pass you they are really face close. I was happy to have my mask on. The drinks arrangement was good though, the ceilings high. We were in stalls f4 and 5. The sound sometimes was very hard to hear, at times and there was an awful racket of electronic sounding chatter just by us. The two men a couple of seats away got really cross got up snd told whoever it was off saying it was not on. I feel that for £65.00 a seat on this corner of the the theatre if a plays sound is going to be a struggle either get it fixed or cut the price. It’s not good. It’s as of one was on volume fade especially when the backs are too us. The play is fabulous, a superb production
the players really put you into the tragedy of the people who were lost to the bloody ambitions of Duke then King Richard.
I especially loved the shadow and Margaret, my skin did prickle a couple of times!!
We met in the foyer a lovely superfan from Ireland who has been to very many performances at the RSC. Which we thought was lovely.
I think for me covid aware is about 2/10 could do more especially given the huge rise at the moment.
Sound 6/10 for our seating area
Noise interference terrible.
Easy access etc did not use facilities.
I love the theatre. I am unsure about returning for a while yet.

My sister and I took the one hour tour of this amazing theatre and loved it. It was great to see backstage as well as hear about the history. Thoroughly recommended.

Most recently, we came to Wars of the Roses and we were absolutely blown away - the standard of acting was so high, we absolutely cannot wait to return and see Richard III, as this actor in particular was the standout for me. The stage combat was so exciting and skilfully done, and the costumes and set pieces were fantastic.
Some people may say the recent productions aren’t ‘classic’ Shakespeare, but what’s wrong in finding new & fresh ways to bring us these plays that have been done over and over again?
Whenever we visit, the staff are so helpful and welcoming. The different price bands for tickets are very reasonable, and the restricted view seats are really good value for money. The restrooms are well maintained, although as always expect a long queue for the ladies!
The selection in the shop is great - a wide range to suit different budgets. The programmes are always worth a purchase. We’ll certainly keep coming to the RSC for many years to come.

We visited to watch War of the Roses which was excellent. All the actors were excellent and also the staff at the theatre were lovely. It is worth ordering drinks for the interval as well instead of queuing. Would definitely visit again.

I did the tour of the RSC with Lance and David and it was amazing! The guides were so knowledgable, friendly and enthusiastic, and we managed to go backstage at the theatre - what a treat! There's lots see and discover about the history of the theatre! I would highly recommend going on a guided tour even if you don't see a play.
My tip would be to try and book a tour time that is not too close to a show performance so you can go backstage/

I don’t know a huge amount about theatre myself but was with 2 huge fans and all of us left inspired after our hour-long tour with guides David and Bobby. They expertly took us through the history of the theatres on the site and we also visited the main theatre itself, wardrobe department and museum. Their facts, anecdotes and enthusiasm made a wonderful tour and the hour passed too quickly.

The staging is far from Shakespeare's day: They use a screen & films in the background at times, and the worst is the awful acting when gender-bending. The actresses, who should be playing men, walk & talk like women, making no effort to play their gender-changed role. Awful!
If you can put up with a screeching female SON of the king prancing around on stage, the non-gender-bended roles are very well acted.

On a short visit to Stratford we decided to take a tour of the theatre. We were extremely fortunate not only to have the tour to ourselves but also to have David Stevens as a guide. It was absolutely fascinating, we covered so much of this beautiful building and all that goes into a performance, were able to ask loads of questions and to benefit from David’s wealth of knowledge and experience, as well as his kindness and enthusiasm. We would definitely recommend taking this tour.

Considering how important this theatre is to Stratford-on-Avon it looks like a Victorian factory from the outside, red brick and steel windows which could best be described as Brutalist architecture. Inside there has been an attempt to create a semi-circular seating area around the stage in a similar form to the original Globe theatre in London.
We were disappointed that the bar/restaurant did not serve brandy! or any coffee with plant based milk.
We watched a performance of Henry V1 rebellion, which was fine.

We took the one-hour Sunday p.m. tour of the theatre, and found that it a worthwhile thing to do, but restricted in what we were able to see as the sound checks in the theatre meant that our group could not go into the theatre itself, just the backstage parts (and they were limited, as the tekkies were working on the sound check)
Two good hosts, who did their best in the light of having to adjust the programme as we went, just a little disappointing that we did not visit the public areas.

Is it interesting for a 12 year old American mad about performing on stage.

Where is a good lunch spot? Maybe even pick something up and be able to walk with it? I will have 1 hour before a matinee at the RSC? And will be coming from the RSC rehearsal halls?

The ‘ Vintner’ Restaurant down Sheep Street.....just perfect but I recommend you book a table if possible, we’ve been there twice for a meal.

Doing a trip to London in April 2019 and can’t decide between just doing a day trip to Stratford upon Avon or spending a night there to see a play at RSC. Would have to return to London next day. Husband hates changing hotels for just one night but likes idea of seeing play. We will not have car so will rely on bus or train or tour company. Ideas?

To see a Shakespeare play at Stratford-on-Avon has alway been on my bucket list so chose Romeo and Juliet (because I knew the story). A visit to the RSC was a real experience, would be well worth a visit for you from London. We stayed overnight in the Macdonald's Swan Nest Hotel which was literally 5minutes walk away from the theatre. We had a lovely room with good facilities, the hotel had nice restaurant and bar and it was very near the town where Shakespeare's birthplace is. Have a great stay in the UK.

Last Minute Tickets?
We are travelling to Stratford for our anniversary next week. Will we be able to book tickets for The Merry Wives of Windsor when we get there?

Very unlikely. RSC sells out well in advance. Can only suggest you try their web site.

Which seats have the best leg room?
Been to a few productions in the past and been crippled by the lack of space. Have got gift vouchers so fortunately we can choose to sit anywhere, which means too much choice!
Thanks.

The stalls had plenty of leg room for us and I'm pretty tall.... Think we were in about 4 rows from the front...

We are a family with young kids. We are planning to visit the theatre on Sunday to spend 1-2 hrs there to see display and let kids try dressing up. Anyone know where can I park to be less than 10 mins walk from the theatre please. ? Thanks

There is also a car park by the side of the Premier Inn Waterways by the side of the canal. As long as children supervised you can walk along tow path to RSC, about 15 mins walk.
