Die heutige Kirche, gebaut in bräunlich-grauen Sandstein, stammt aus dem Jahre 1879-1890 und wurde von Julius Alfred Chatwin, Birminghams kirchlichem Architekt der Zeit, entworfen. Die Kirche war für eine Gemeinde von 900 Menschen gedacht.
Der Turm stammt aus dem Jahr 1480. Eigentlich hieß die Kirche ST. Peter und Paul, die Namensänderung geht auf die Annexion Astons durch Birmingham im Jahre 1911, wobei Aston in Vorzeiten größer, bedeutender und wertvoller als Birmingham war.
Innen sind Gedenksteine für Kriegsopfer, die Holte Familie, Opfer der Belagerung durch Parlamentaristen Birminghams und mehr. Allerdings war die Kirche geschlossen und keine Öffnungszeiten angegeben.

Various talks were on throughout the day.
Took the opportunity with others to try the tower tour.
About 47 steps up to the bell ringing room.
The 10 Bells are a further 26 or so steps further up.
Then about another 25 or so steps to the roof.
The views up there are spectacular.
The glass baptism pool now been in 9 yrs, didn’t seem that long ago it was installed.
Friendly congregation, volunteers & staff.
Church full of history info boards about.
Café downstairs in right rear of church as you go in.

This lovely big old church had a different feel to it in the evening, when all the place was lit up for the induction of the new vicar.
The tallness of the building, the ceilings, the glass windows were amplified in their detail.
The service lasted one & a half hours.
Then we had refreshments in the church hall.
The bishop, arch deacon, & acting dean were all there.
A lot of ritual ceremony goes on during the induction.
Normal worshipping service Sun 11am.

Aston Parish Church is a Victorian gem whose historical and spiritual treasures are well worth a visit. Although the building is Victorian and may have been visited by Queen Victoria herself when she opened nearby Aston Park, we have treasures dating back to the 13th century, and a history going back to the doomsday book ie the 11th century, well before the nearby place that became Birmingham. Building definitely open on Sundays and before Villa matches.
Just to be honest I have to admit that I am the Vicar so may be slightly biased in my review.

The various big display screens around the church told countless information, from the youngest soldier to serve in the war, to those within the parish that were awarded noteworthy medals during WW1.
There are 3 War Memorials within this church & its grounds.
This is the oldest building in Aston. A place full of history. Aston became part of Birmingham in 1911.
It has 30 war graves.
The church’s manual pipe organ was installed in 1901.
This church along with one in Northfield are the only churches within Birmingham that were listed in the Doomsday Book.
The oldest tomb is that of Ralph Arden, whom died in 1360, & from whom William Shakespeare was a direct descendant.
The tower is the oldest part of the church dating from 1480.
There is also a Plevin’s window within the church.

I went there on Friday for a Celebration of life service. It was an opportunity to meet up with family and friends, go for a walk along memory lane and admirer the beauty if this Gothic Church opposite Aston Hall. Also to wander past Aston Villa Grounds where I've attended many events and supported many of my expupils. Aston Parish Church is listed as Aston Juxta Birmingham in some places. It has a very rich history. So much has happened in the area since it was built. In the last year I have been there for Celebration of Life Services and a wedding. I used to live in the area and have spent many hours in there. I've also attended fairs, book launches and conferences there. The building is lovely and I enjoy being in there. The toilets are pleasant and the grounds have trees and plants. The centre is available for hire and the staff are very nice, pleasant, friendly, helpful. A lovely peaceful place to be
