i am fortunate to live by this beautiful historic church and can say that around the area is the old blacksmith and some beautiful cottages. it is a lovely unspoilt area of birmingham, wherby you travel back in time. There is the post box that is still functional, when there used to be a post office. A one way system, so cars vans etc cannot drive off the medway which makes this area of yardley a lovely smoke free and access to the park, a truly unspoilt area, the cottages are so pretty with the flowers and shrubs. But most of all is the hisorical church, beautiful.

Today was an open day...
But I was told to get out, because they were having a meeting!
Looks like someone didn't get the memo about open day.

St Edburgha's is a lovely old church dating back to the 13th century in mediaeval Yardley. The door in the north aisle has a carving of a rose and pomegranate to commemorate the marriage of Prince Arthur and Catherine of Aragon. On the interior wall is a heavily worn incised alabaster slab dating back to 1462

One of the most beautiful, and historic churches in the area. Do not miss the old church door on the side with the pomegranate and the Tudor rose. (The North door to be exact.) Mason's marks are to be seen by the detectives in your group. The marks were made on the interior stonework of the tower, and were made by an apprentice mason when he became a master-man. I could go on and on since this church is close to my heart. Before you go find out the hours when the church will be open.

I love the village. The old park next to the church is so peaceful. The church has two halls. One is used after the service for refreshments. We used to come out of church and go next door. During the week I went there for various meetings. During refurbishment the other hall, the school room, 5 minutes away which was used. Events like fairs and jumble sales and clubs are is based in the old school room. I love walking around the area. The old forge reminds me of my uncle's blacksmiths business in the Caribbean. There are some very interesting buildings in the area too. The church is full of history. It's very old with stained glass , pews and lots of interesting architecture. The pews have gates at the end. The church leaders and congregation is close and very friendly. I enjoy going to services here. There is a fundraising for the steeple. Someone who used to go there and emigrated some time ago left a substantial amount to the church. It's nice having this village away from the hustle and bustle yet a few minutes walk away there are bus stops into Birmingham City, Solihull, and even the Number 11 circular bus.

This church is very old. It's reportedly in the doomsday book. I got married here in 1981 all my 5sisters married here and one of my daughter's married here two years ago. This is a church no grave yard.

Walking through this small "village" in a city is like being transported back in time. The church itself is a beautiful old building, on one side you have old Yardley Village and the other side is Queen's Park with big playing fields, a play area and tennis courts. It is well worth a visit.

Hi , I wonder if anyone would mind answering a question about the church? I am attending a family wedding there next month and am a wheelchair user. I would like to know if there are steps up to the main entrance if possible? Thank you in advance.

hello, the old cottages up from St. Edburgha' church that were owned by J.J. Chester my Grandfather, are their any old photos? There was an old gate at the left side and a building behind that had the loos in it. The cottages had no toilets inside. I have a photo from 1998.
Thank you, Vivienne Shay
