Stopped for lunch at reserve as part of a ramble in Sandwell Valley Country Park.Being a member visited the centre and ate lunch inside overlooking Reed beds. Carried on into bird hide a short walk away after lunch and stayed 1.5 hours. Friendly volunteers sharing knowledge and very welcoming. Answered any questions and set up digiscope so that birds could be viewed clearer. Very enjoyable. Thanks to Dave particularly who was interesting and made our visit very enjoyable. Friendly staff in centre too. Various events ( walks of interest, bat walks, fungi spotting etc arranged throughout year). Would recommend.

Really good RSPB nature reserve only a bus ride from the city. Good hide well equipped with binoculars just in case you forget yours. Nice circular walk around the lake. We spotted lapwings, a rare scoter duck, a greenfinch, goldfinches etc. Friendly staff in the visitor centre. Unfortunately only coffee and snacks in the visitor centre no sandwiches or more substantial meals.

What a wonderful place to spend time. It is so beautiful to either walk around or just spend time sitting and listening to the birdsong.
Lovely coffee and super clean toilets.
The people that work there are really helpful, kind and knowledgeable.

Fun and relaxing for everyone.
Whether you go for a nice couples relaxing walks (which we tend to do), run around the lake (again we do) or go for a nice morning with the family. This place is a hidden gem.
You can go for a nice walk with a coffee from the volunteers hut; the staff are friendly and pleasant, then walk around looking for wildlife or having a general chat. (Shame not most people doing that say hello when you walk past but that's the way of the world nowadays).
They often put on nature trails for young families to complete and they are cheap to purchase at the hut.
Overall a nice local place to relax in whatever season.

Still nestling under the radio active electrical towers. Would be a diamond in the rough if it was not for that. Still the odd swan and plenty of rabbits and no doubt a good walk for locals and there dogs. My sister in law takes a short cut with her dog but to be honest nobody wants to spend much time there with all the pylons around.

It's been a few years since visiting here. Much improved facilities now. Car parking free to RSPB members; otherwise £3. Inside is light and airey with a one way system in operation, wearing of masks being requested inside the centre. Toilets clean. Outside is well maintained with plenty to see and explore. The area is large enough to spend at least a few hours wandering around. Good to see so many seating areas, too. Lots of different birds about. The guide in the hide was helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

we have just come back from an amazing Holiday workshop. We were there for nearly 5 hours ;-) There are lots trails for the kids and we were lucky enough to have attended the Workshop. The children took part in pond dipping, outdoor skills and bug hunting. We also made a butterfly feeder. All of the instructors and volunteers were amazing and very interactive with the children of all ages..The site is well worth the visit even without the workshops

Any bird water would love to be there. The car park should be free but you have to pay and display. Nice bird watching area.

Great place to visit i come here often, very relaxing walk round the lake friendly little robins and blue tits if your lucky you will also see the green parakeets

Always a treat to stroll around the reserve, a steady 4km walk. Great resource in Sandwell, not Birmingham

Yes, dogs are very welcome but we do ask that they are kept on leads whilst on the reserve. We sometimes have dog biscuits available at the visitor centre, and bowls of water are topped up regularly outside.

I've just started collecting stamps to help the albatross and can drop them into a reserve but I can't find a number to contact you on. it says I'm supposed to ring ahed. Regards Penny

Hi Linda, yes we are open on bank holiday Mondays at the normal opening and closing times. We have multiple activities put on especially for the day which you may find on our Facebook page (RSPB Birmingham, Black Country and Warwickshire)
