‪A gorgeous Yorkshire garden to visit‬

‪What a gorgeous garden to visit just outside the centre of Leeds, Yorkshire. An absolute jewel. Ample parking and a lovely cafe for refreshments after your meander round the 17 different garden areas in this 1 acre garden. Reasonably flat to walk round, but there are some steps too - there are a variety of routes around the gardens though. As it was our first visit here, we opted to join a free garden tour. A very knowledgeable volunteer tour guide, Jocelyn, explained the history and planting schemes of each garden as we went round. This is a definite must to see if visiting the area.

The garden planting schemes and designs are definitely inspirational. There are many great ideas for your own gardens. Theres joy round each corner!

Just make a note of opening times though, as the gardens are closed in late October for winter. Check the website. ‬

‪Brilliant visit to a wonderful garden‬

‪Amazing gardens- there are garden “rooms” within the garden all within a beautiful setting. Extremely hardworking staff and volunteers keep this gem of a place in tip top condition and are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the cafe which again is run with efficiency and friendliness. If you have Gardeners’ World 2 for 1 ticket accepted here. Some plant name tags would be educational but I should imagine there’s not the time to do this with upkeep of the gardens! ‬

‪Just Wonderful‬

‪Visited the garden on a damp day but that didn't lessen my enjoyment. The lady on the ticket desk was enthusiastic and informative as were the information boards. I don't really think I can do justice in describing the garden, beautifully laid out with different areas and planting schemes. It was fascinating to see the features that we had read about on the information boards and how they had been acquired . The potting shed was another highlight. Now we can move on to the café! We had the soup and sandwich deal which was very good value. Both soup and sandwiches roasted veg/ smoked salmon delicious as was the blueberry and lemon cake which we couldn't resist. Hope to make a return visit soon. ‬

‪Very pleasant cafe‬

‪Our fourth ..or is it fifth visit to this wonderful place ?. First time we visited Sybil was still alive and we met her.
This visit was to meet friends and have a long lunch at the cafe so as I've reviewed the gardens before this involves the cafe solely.
A very clean and welcoming cafe which serves delicious snacks, specials, teas and home made cakes, it's always a pleasure to come here.
Our party had the home made soup, panini with various salads, vegan salad and ploughmans. The last dish is most substantial, as are the paninis. Cakes and tea to follow, always deliciously baked.
Slight drawback is that you have to pick your own cutlery, sugar and water however that's probably as it's not table service.
Also it does get busy so sometimes the staff forget to bring everything once it's been ordered.
Would recommend.‬

‪A Wonderful Tour of York Gate‬

‪My Husband and I visited York Gate for the first time today. A lady volunteer (really sorry I am not good at remembering names) gave us a tour round the gardens and told us so much about the Spencer family and the history etc. as we walked around the gardens and it was extrememly interesting. Thank you so much. The gardens and flowers and different areas and vistas, planned by the Spencer family were really interesting and the flowers, plants and trees were all so breathtaking beautiful. I will recommend it to my friends and we will certainly be visiting York Gate again very soon. I would also strongly recommend the tour which brought everything to life for us. Many thanks, it was a lovely day out.‬

‪Bright & beautiful garden‬

‪Visited for the first time today, Sat 19th August, with my husband & we really enjoyed our visit. It cost £7 each & we felt it was worth it, we spent around an hour to an hour & a half there. The gardens are divided up into different "rooms" with varying themes eg the white garden, hot coloured garden, kitchen garden, tropical area, canal pond ( our favourite part ) with water lilies, fish & a fountain with massive beautiful phlox bushes in front of it, pine tree area, shady fern area, little follies, another pond, meditteranean garden, cacti etc. There's a lot fitted into a small area. We loved the variety & colours & how peaceful it was. It's not far to walk round but I would say it could be a bit difficult for people with walking difficulties as there's some steps & slopes to negotiate & some gravel paths. Definitely not good for wheelchairs. We waited for a few minutes for a table in the attractive cafe, run by very pleasant volunteers, it seemed very popular, there's also an outdoor terrace. The menu was quite small but there were also daily specials. We both really enjoyed our meals, everything was fresh & homemade, my husband loved his tomato & basil soup with beef sandwiches, I really liked my homemade ham sandwiches with salad garnish, crisps & coleslaw, not cheap but quality produce. We would definitely revisit the cafe, you can go to it without paying to enter the gardens, there's also a gift shop & a small plant shop. York Gate is a hidden gem in Adel & a lovely place to spend a couple of hours. It's operated by a charity which helps people who work in horticulture who are experiencing difficulties in life so you're helping a good cause too.‬

‪Beautiful English Garden‬

‪This is a beautiful English garden you wish you had . Lovely coffee shop with good quality food and excellent service. Very clean and tidy , good free parking. Would come back .
Only downside was I wanted more 😁‬

‪Superb cafe!‬

‪A lovely garden to explore, not massive but allow around a couple of hours if you’re visiting. Went with my partner and our friends, and although I’m not that bothered about gardens generally, I still enjoyed it despite the rain! What made it for me though was the fabulous cafe. Lovely food served in a nice dining room. We had possibly the nicest soup we’ve ever had, pea & mint, absolutely superb. I had a lovely Mediterranean tart with salad which was excellent, and followed it up with lovely bit of rocky road for dessert. Overall all 4 of us were really impressed with the dining experience, as well as the garden. Shame we don’t live near enough to make the cafe a regular destination. Worth noting that you can visit the cafe without having to pay for gardens admission too. Recommended!‬

‪A joy to visit this horticultural gem‬

‪The whole experience from the garden visit to the cafe was absolutely wonderful. The garden is full of fabulous ideas, superb and unusual plants, different planting aspects ie shady areas, one colour areas, wooded, water, succulent area.....lovely. Superbly maintained too. Also because it is not acres, it is easy to walk around, even my 90 year old mother thoroughly enjoyed and managed to walk around and see everything. Superbly maintained too. There is also a small plant sales area, again with plants for sale that you would not necessarily find in garden centres.
The staff and volunteers were exceptional, so friendly and welcoming and freely imparted information. They were really happy to spend time with their visitors.
An absolute gem and a joy to visit....it really made our holiday. We actually drove out of our way to visit on the way home and SO glad we did. Thankyou York Gate and keep up the good work.‬
