Amazing place! Plenty to see and lots of helpful and knowledgeable volunteers who are very willing to tell you about the aircraft and impart historical anecdotes. Two highlights: a tour of the Lancaster, and visiting the Comet which used to sit outside RAF Lyneham. Great to be able to clamber in and out of the various cockpits and then visit the cafe for some refreshments. Thank you!

An amazing little aircraft museum with a great information and history boards. Access to the cockpits of most of the exhibits was a real plus.
Friendly volunteers only too happy to chat and answer questions.

Great museum with what must be one of the largest collections of British military aircraft anywhere in the country. Mostly from WW2 onwards, although does have some WW1 exhibits as well. Different from similar museums because you can actually climb into the cockpits of a number of the planes, and watch volunteers working on repairs and restorations. Boards by each exhibit clearly explain the history of the individual plane
For an attraction that is currently rated #3 on the list of "Top 10 Best things to do in Salisbury" on Tripadvisor this museum is relatively unknown (I live locally and knew of 8 of the other 9 on the list). So I doubt it is ever very busy, unlike attractions #1 & 2, Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral! Don't be deterred by its unpromising looking position in an industrial estate and its rather dated website. This museum is unique with plenty to interest you for at least a couple of hours!

This is a really good collection of Aircraft and aircraft memorabilia. Great to visit if you are an aviation enthusiast or a family as there are lots and lots of cockpits to see and most are open to sit in. Of particular interest to me was the RFC (Royal flying Corps) collection of circa First World War memorabilia, this was a really good collection of stories, history and memorabilia. Also for me the Lancaster cockpit which is kitted out with all Genuine gauges, levers and dials, simply unique I believe. Also there is a great Cafe called hanger 3 cafe for lunch or tea a couple of hundred yards from the entrance to the museum. Overall a great place to visit.

A stunning museum, not only housing an astounding collection of vintage jets and transport aircraft, but encouraging visitors to sit in their cockpits! There is also a reconstruction of a wartime Lancaster bomber, with a unique collection of actual instruments, seating and bomb aiming equipment, explained by a hugely knowledgeable and friendly volunteer. A fascinating history of the Royal Flying Corps completes a memorable and significant day out. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity for a hands on meeting with our aviation heritage.

I visited this volunteer run museum today with my best friend. My wife had selected it for me as a birthday present knowing that I’m an aircraft geek - I’ve been making Airfix kits since the early sixties! It was an excellent choice for me.
An interesting collection of mainly military jets. You can sit in the cockpits of many of them.
The volunteers are very friendly and helpful. Although it was great to see the likes of Meteors, Hunters and Lightnings I was particularly impressed with the section telling the story of the Royal Flying Corp during the 1914-18 Great War. Roger, the volunteer who looks after it, took us through the exhibits very patiently and was genuinely informative.
I must also thank Philip for taking Frank and myself to Salisbury Railway Station as we left phoning for a taxi until about 3.00 in the afternoon when they were all busy with the school run.
Altogether a great experience and I loved the dedicated enthusiasm of the volunteers. Superb value for money.

It was well laid out, had volunteer staff who were very knowledgeable and talkative about the planes, had decently low priced tickets and a big selection of other aviation related things, like ejection seats, drones and missiles. I worked my way around the 2 hangers that were crammed full of different types of aircraft. This would have been like any other aircraft museum I’ve been too, however, you are able to go inside of, and interact with the switches and controls of most of the planes there. Along with the very informative and friendly staff this was a very nice experience.

Well, this was simply the best aviation museum I have ever been to. You can sit in nearly all of the cockpits without supervision or havingvto wait in line. Outstanding.

i went wife my wife as my Birthday Treat, from Thatcham. it was excellent in every way. The Volunteers were helpful, funny & new there stuff. my wife has a bad back so very welcome that there are lots of comfortable chairs around the 2 famous hangers. We were pointed in the direction of the local cafe which was equably as good! We will go again in the future

Which bus from Salisbury station will get us to Boscombe Down AC and how often do they run please?
What is the entry for 1 parent and child aged 12 please?
كُتب بتاريخ 22 أغسطس 2016
Hi,
Either the X5 or the Active8 and get off at the beehive roundabout, it's about a 15 minute walk. These busses are very regular during the day, there are about 3-4 an hour. For one parent and a child it would be £14.50 (however under 5s are free). All the best, David (marketing).

hi I plan to bring my husband and only have a few hours in Salisbury which would be the quickest and easiest way to get to the museum

Hi, on the assumption that you are traveling from High Wycombe by car follow the directions on the BDAC web site Visitor Information page. This also gives you a link to Google map to plan an alternate route. If you are traveling by train then taxi from Salisbury station will be the quickest, but local bus will be cheaper.
