Visited here with my wife as I have an interest in aircraft and aviation. This is a great museum, many interesting exhibits of mostly Cold War era jets. Lots of aircraft cockpits you can sit in to get an idea of what it would be like to fly these planes. The volunteers are on hand to talk to you about the exhibits. There is also a shop to get a souvenir of your visit. We would recommend this museum, and the entrance fee was very reasonable.

What an excellent museum! And I have visited a few. It pulls off a trick that very few museums can. It is fun for kids and yet also very fascinating for old airplane geeks like me. This is definitely not a sterile showpiece, it is a living museum. And this is because of their style of exhibiting. It is very relaxed and open. The kids that were there today seemed to be having a lot of fun climbing into the many open cockpits. I am more of a photographic observer myself but even I found myself seated comfortably in a few Martin-Baker ejector seats (rocket packs safely removed of course). One of the volunteer guides spotted me with my rather large camera and directed me to a balcony that was officially off-limits but he said I could go up there to get some pictures. Parking is easy and free and there is a very nice and reasonably priced cafe in the parachute club next door. It was a long drive for me to get there but it was well worth it.

What a great place to visit...we came down last weekend with friends and family to do a photoshoot with ThreeSixtyHistory Film Services and everyone couldn't have been more lovely to us and so accommodating. Great to visit such a hands on aviation collection...it makes all the difference and we're so appreciative of all the help from everyone there on the day. We will be back definitely. 😁👍

Absolutely fantastic afternoon out with the children here. A large collection of aircraft and the children were delighted to be able to climb inside most of them, press buttons and pretend to be pilots. The volunteers were friendly, approachable and very knowledgable and also great with the children. We had an absolutely super day out and will definitely be coming back!

What a day!! I found this hidden gem on TikTok looking for things to do in the area. I took my partner and parents here and we all enjoyed ourselves. The staff are very friendly and really know their stuff. The free parking is a nice touch. It's great for the history buffs and the kids (and grown-ups) that want to sit the cockpit and play pilots
The website could do with updating and maybe the signposting but it was all a part of the adventure

I confess I wasn't looking forward to this visit so I was delighted to find it so interesting. The volunteers were all so welcoming and enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the aircraft. Most of the volunteers had been directly involved in finding and restoring the planes. Definitely a worthwhile morning.

If you want a hands-on aviation museum, this is probably as hands-on as you can get. They have a signigficant collection of fast jet cockpits and you can sit in most of them. On top of this there are some larger aircraft cockpits which are also accessible (some on request). It's not just aircraft parts though, there are several completely intact aircraft, a few you can also sit in but the majority you can't. But you can still get close.
I was astounded to see that several have been restored from what were wrecks, on site. The team do an amazing job and have saved several planes from destruction including the most successful Harrier from the Falklands war. They also have one of the rare smaller Avro Prototype aircraft used to develop the famous Vulcan Bomber.
On top of the aircraft there are lots of other aviation related exhibits to see. Don't miss the amazing RFC collection. This is a room full of genuine artifacts from WW1 including uniforms, documents and equipment.
The building itself could be considered an exhibit as it's a rare surviving WW1 era hanger, the whole site was an airfield during WW1 and outside the airfield is still used by modern aircraft.
With it being an old building, it can be a little chilly but if you dress as though it's an outdoor museum, you'll be fine. Pretty much everything in the museum has links to the area, either Old Sarum airfield where they are now or Boscombe down where they started.
The volunteer staff are all very friendly and helpful with a lot of knowledge. There's an interesting giftshop with a large stock of old aviation books.
I loved seeing the old aircraft close up and it's gone straight into being one of my favourite aviation museums.

This is an astonishing place and so well worth a visit, especially with children. Not only can you literally walk into parts of history (they just restored cockpit of an old Lancaster that was actually in a battle in the second world war and dropped an important bomb on German viaduct) but you can seat in several planes and helicopters to pretend you are one of the pilots. While our son was playing in the planes and tested a simulator, we could walk around with the kindest gentleman who explained so many technical and historical details. All the people who work there are volunteers and we absolutely recommend you pay them a visit. The museum had hardly any people in it due to bad weather so it gave us an incredible experience and we really took our time. The entrance is only 9 pounds and it was well worth the money and the time. Pst! There is also an old royal plane there that was used by the royal family for 28 years. Go check it out!

What a little gem. If you like aviation history and want a hands on experience this is a must. Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and numerous planes on show with many cockpits that you can actually clamber into. A must for kids to visit and if you can’t find one to take then just treat your inner child.

Which bus from Salisbury station will get us to Boscombe Down AC and how often do they run please?
What is the entry for 1 parent and child aged 12 please?
DavidBDAC
Salisbury, UK135 مساهمة
Hi,
Either the X5 or the Active8 and get off at the beehive roundabout, it's about a 15 minute walk. These busses are very regular during the day, there are about 3-4 an hour. For one parent and a child it would be £14.50 (however under 5s are free). All the best, David (marketing).

hi I plan to bring my husband and only have a few hours in Salisbury which would be the quickest and easiest way to get to the museum

Hi, on the assumption that you are traveling from High Wycombe by car follow the directions on the BDAC web site Visitor Information page. This also gives you a link to Google map to plan an alternate route. If you are traveling by train then taxi from Salisbury station will be the quickest, but local bus will be cheaper.
