‪Been before but always a nice place to visit. It's not huge and you can't go up to high vantage points but it is what most would think of as a proper castle, with a water filled moat. It's in a very nice spot.‬

‪This is just a small ruined castle. Setting is lovely and its very well kept. There is no entry fees and we can also have picnic in the grounds. It is located in one of the Walking trail, so good stopping place for Walkers.‬

‪A huge castle to explore, bit disappointed we couldn’t climb up to the top tower, but maybe health and safety issue. Also we couldn’t walk all the way around the moat, but still very impressive!
Well worth a visit.
Small parking area, £3 fee, card only.‬

‪I can't believe that this is free of charge! Great castle ruins, interesting info boards, plenty of space to walk around (and picnic, if that's what you'd like to do. Didn't need to be a long visit, but we enjoyed about 45 minutes here.‬

‪This is a great castle with some great grounds, great place to have a picnic. This is free to enter, there is a donation point if want to. Not much spaces but plenty for what it is.‬

‪Right on Offa's Dyke Path. Make time to stop and look around this well preserved monument if you are doing the walk here‬

‪As a castle enthusiast, I thought I had seen most of them in Wales. But this time, we visited the little-known border castle called White Castle. What a surprise. Set in a beautiful rural location, the castle was originally built in the 12th Century by the Normans to protect the route from Wales to Hereford. This moated castle, although now mainly ruins, would have been a magnificent sight when originally built.
The castle tells many fascinating stories. One very unusual story is what happened there in 1942 when Rudolf Hess, Hitler’s deputy, was incarcerated in a prison near Abergavenny. He flew on a secret mission to Britain but was captured in Scotland. The purpose of his mission is still a mystery but some historians argue that, after falling out of favour with the Nazi hierarchy, he wanted to use his power to enter peace negotiations with Britain, which would ease the pressure on Germany on the Eastern Front, In doing so, he thought he might be seen as a national hero. It did not work and, to Hitler’s annoyance, he remained a prisoner there for three years.

He was allowed, for health reasons, to walk around this castle and spent much of his time drawing and painting (see the photo below). He had clearly inherited his mentor’s artistic inclinations. This castle is also positioned close to the Offa’s Dyke Trail – a walkers paradise. This castle may not get the tourist publicity of the great Edward the First castles in north Wales – like Conway and Beaumaris. But I think it’s a gem and well worth a visit if you love medieval castles as I do.‬

‪This is my favourite of the “three castles”.

It has an impressive large outter ward which is mainly in tact, before you enter the inner ward which has more detail and ruins to explore.

It has good signage, an impressive entrance and a nice moat.

This castle is free to visit, there is plenty of space for a picnic and is limited free parking outside.

Worth seeing.‬

‪We visited White Castle whilst staying locally in the area.
It’s incredibly well tended and a great example of one of the 3 castles in the area. Lots of information boards around explaining the full history.
Some picnic benches dotted about and generally a nice few hours spent.‬
