A really memorable outing. The boat trip was great fun and the island was well worth visiting, with its abundance of birds, rugged, flower-strewn landscape and lighthouse. Highly recommended.

We had a little trouble finding the Blue Metal Container office as it was on the other side of the road from the other buildings, and we didn't know that were the only people boarding the boat in Cardiff (everyone else was in Weston-super-Mare) so looking for the queue was also fruitless. However, it was all uphill from then. Our crew - Ed and his good lady (whose name I never managed to catch) - were just about the nicest, jolliest people you could wish to meet anywhere at 5.45am. The boat was a kind of blue, high-speed, rubbery, lifeboat-type vessel (sorry to be so technical) which brough back fond memories of 'Hawaii Five-O', and all our journeys (Cardiff - Weston x 2, and Weston - Steep Holm x 2) were fantastic; I was the only nervous passenger, but that's just me and nothing to do with the service. We were blessed with pleasant, calm weather, which I'm sure helped.
12 hours was a long time to be on Steep Holm, but it went pretty quickly as it's a fascinating place; there is a large Visitors' Centre in the old barracks to use as a base, and all the volunteers we encountered were great: kind, helpful and very hard-working in a variety of way. The only issue was that we were there while the gulls were nesting and they, understandably, were vigorously defending their eggs and chicks. The Visitors' Centre provided (for £1) umbrellas which provided some much-needed protection. Otherwise Steep Holm is an absolute gem.
So, it was a fantastic day, the people, the sea journeys and of course the island were fabulous. We returned to a very calm Penarth Marina completely unaware of the tragic events going on up the road, so perhaps I should conclude by wishing the people of Ely in Cardiff all the very best as they rebuild their community after those awful happenings.

We had a fantastic day out with Sean and his colleague. The staff on the pier kept us informed about the slight delay (due to fog) and once on the boat the crew made sure we knew the safety rules and what to do if we were not happy about anything.
The trip over to Flat Holm was a lovely experience, the RIB was great fun and allowed for a smooth ride. Going through the barrage was interesting and the crew were really informative and were knowledgeable about the Bay and its geographics.
The visit to Flat Holm was a lovely experience, the guided tour by one of the volunteers was a bonus and really brought the history and wildlife there come to life.
The return trip was smooth and great fun.
All in, we had a lovely day out for our anniversary and made some really unique memories. Definitely recommend and hope to do another trip with this company again soon.

Loved the experience of the RIB, crew were very friendly and knowledgeable and I felt completely safe and at ease. Loved hearing facts and info about how the barrage operates, so fascinating.

Wow! What an amazing day! I booked a trip for our family of four to Flat Holm with bay island voyages, and it was one of the best days we’ve had. To be honest I was quite nervous as I’ve had a few bad experiences with boats in the past. But now I’ve been converted to loving them thanks to Shaun & Aaron who manned the boat we were on, They were amazing talking us through all the safety procedures and were so knowledgeable letting us know how the barrage worked etc (it was so interesting). The island was beautiful, with wildlife and lots of history, we had a great time. Boarding the boat back I felt brave and decided to sit at the front of the boat, and wow I’m so glad I did, I absolutely loved it I felt so safe and knew I was in safe hands thanks to Shaun and Aaron! We all had a fantastic day and have still got smiles on our faces thanks to bay island voyages. We’ll definitely be returning & I highly recommend if you want a great boat trip and day out as you will absolutely love it and will not be disappointed. Thank you to bay island voyages and to Shaun and Aaron you’ve given us a great day that we will cherish forever 🤩

Excellent day out !!excellent day out !!,could not fault the trip ,every thing explained well ,felt safe on the boat ,great fun ,loads of history on the island !!

Fantastic experience for an 11 year old’s birthday party. All the kids were thrilled with the boat ride, the experience of transiting through the Cardiff Bay lock system out to sea and the detailed knowledge of our captain for the day.
All the kids were supported prior to boarding to ensure life jackets were correctly fitted and they were suitably dressed. A detailed safety brief before departure was delivered by the captain before the fun began.
Highly recommend Bay Island Voyages for a 15 minute fun trip within Cardiff Bay or to experience a coastal trip as we did

Great trip to flatholm with bay island voyages on the little speedboat…. Everything was well organised, the boat is great fun (it was quite a calm day - could be very choppy on another day I think) the driver was entertaining and it was fascinating to go through the barrage gates…… you have just the right amount of time on flatholm to take the tour with the islands conservationists, have a little wander on your own and have a drink in the pub…… before speeding back to the bay….. a well recommended day out, although do read about it a little before you go, as apparently the seagulls are a little crazy at certain times of the year…..
