‪Hard to rate as a very mixed experience! The display on locally made clothes through the years is attractively set out and very interesting. We also found the Egyptian room good, and also the other archaeology-based areas downstairs.

However, the upstairs room showing the very famous Red Lady of Paviland, and local geology and history was very tatty, many of the exhibits were unlabelled (or labels were falling off) and some displays were entirely empty, There are two large engines of some kind outside, but I can't tell you any more about them as they are not labelled at all, and need a bit of tidying up. Interesting ceramic displays if you enjoy those.

Definitely worth a visit (it is free after all!) but I am not in any hurry to return.‬

‪We visited Swansea Museum with great expectations but came away disappointed. Apart from one gallery, the displays were extremely difficult to view because the display cabinets were either not lit, or what was provided was very, very poor. With modern LED lighting, there is no reason not to provide a better visitor experience. There are two large rooms that are in themselves very poorly lit. My wife carries a small torch in her handbag and I jest not, that she had to use it to see what was in the cases!‬

‪A hidden gem of a museum frequently overlooked. There is a mouse trail for the kids to keep them entertained but a fascinating temp exhibition of years of swansea as a city and how music links in. let alone a mummy exhibition and plenty of details to keep everyone interested ‬

‪We called by on our way home from holiday, as 14 year old loves history. 2 youngest took part in the mouse trail, but all 3 loved the museum. Staff were friendly and helpful, exhibits were fab!‬

‪This museum is quite small but has a few interesting exhibits. The highlight of the museum is the Egyptian mummy housed at the top of the stairs. Other exhibits include a plesiosaur, copper produced at the Hafod-Morfa works and a stuffed passenger pigeon. It is free which makes the trip better. Overall, a nice, small museum to spend an hour in.‬

‪This was a return visit for us, and we were certainly not disappointed. The museum is housed in a beautiful building constructed in a neo-classical style in 1841 for the Royal Institution of South Wales. There is no fixed entry charge, but there are two separate boxes for donations. The museum features quite a mishmash of historical exhibits, displayed effectively, unified for the most part by their relevance to Swansea. Downstairs there are temporary exhibitions. On this visit the excellent temporary exhibition celebrated the centenary of the daring Transatlantic flight of Alcock and Brown (from Newfoundland to Co. Galway). John Alcock was killed in an airplane accident just six months after this feat. Local interest stems from the fact that Arthur Whitten Brown settled in Swansea, where he died in 1948 following overdose (presumed accidental) of sleeping pills. The previous temporary exhibitions that we have seen included an excellent one for the centenary of the first world war (a local perspective). Our favourite permanent exhibit is one with a weaker local relevance - although it has "resided" in Swansea since the late 1800s. This is the Egyptian mummy Hor. Visitors get very close to Hor, and an illuminated full body x-ray on the wall adds significantly to the overall effect. Hor, who lived in Akhmim in Upper Egypt around 250-200 BC, was the clothier priest and scribe of Atum who changed the clothes on the statue of the God in the temple each day. Friendly staff at the entrance desk explained to us that Hor was included on a list of mummies hosted in various locations who were due to be repatriated to Egypt. Plans for repatriation were understandably suspended when the Arab Spring unrest affected Egypt a few years ago, but it is likely (and entirely understandable) that one day Hor will return to his native Egypt. Therefore don't delay - come and meet him in Swansea. Other highlights for our children included the mouse hunt - a clever means of occupying young minds and relieving parents.‬

‪I thought that what was here was good but I left feeling that I didn’t really know much more about the area. Some nice things to look at.‬

‪My two grandsons and l had a nice time at Swansea museum. There was lot to see for every age group. Plus lots of extra activities had been put on. Lots of things to keep the smallest of children amused To big area of broken house hold goods for older children to try and fix Even a grandfather was having a try.
It was a very enjoyable few hours plus it was free.‬
