Had a perfect day to climb down the side of the cliff to view the Cave and then we decided to scramble the rest of the way down onto the beach to take a better look. So pleased we did as it was amazing to see 😊

went here years ago. quite a climb to get into it. you have to be fit. never seen anything like it since. well worth a visit.

Amazing bit of Middle Ages ingenuity. We have young kids and went round the headland at high tide and up the cliff to exit. The cliff was very steep ( as they often are) but would have been a far quicker route than the shore line which took an hour with little ones and was tough. It was well worth it though. Recent storms had build up flora and fauna so could not get inside the structure

I'm a local who regularly frequents Culver Hole (for some reason we call it Smuggler's Cove) It's sometimes a bit tricky to find the path down unless you're familiar with the area, but carefully peer over the cliff and you'll quickly spot it! I love popping down here all the time - bit of a steep incline down to the base with loose rocky path, but not too challenging with good footwear. At the moment the tide has pulled the rocks away from the base so you can actually just crawl beneath the wall. Really interesting piece of local history!

A curious construction reached by scrambling across a rocky beach.. it’s fine for the fit and able but was a bit too much for me because I’ve got knee problems. Anyway it’s a bit hard to spot but we did. I did not go in because of having to use a rope to do so.
It’s interesting but take care to check the tide and allow enough time.

Had seen photos of this many many years ago, but had appreciated how close to Port Eynon it was. We were staying in Horton, so after checking tide times thought would wander over. There isn’t any sign to find it, but a semi faint track dropping down from the main coastal path. It’s a bit rough and a couple of places stepper than you might want, but once you get to the bottom you find this historical wonder. No ones is clear quite why it was built here, with stories of Smugglers, Dovecote or even folly. Whatever reason its great that we can still marvel at it.

What an awesome place. You can crawl inside and see all the historic dovecote, you really feel the history of the place. See pic for a hint on how to find it

Been here on numerous occasions and love this place. The mystery that surrounds this structure still intrigues me with the story’s of smuggling and contraband or was it indeed a Dovecote, you decide! Only accessible on low tides from Overton or past the youth hostel at Port Eynon with a steep decline to access the hole. A must see on the Gower coast.

A faire quand la marée est un peu descendue. Du parking de Port Eynon (parking payant comme partout au pays de galles , celui la = 1,5livres), nous sommes passés par le camping puis la « house salt ». Nous sommes montés jusqu au « monument » puis il faut continuer le sentier et descendre jusqu a une barrière et continuer à gauche et ouvrir une seconde barrière... ensuite un peu d escalade toujours vers la gauche et on arrive aux fameux trous... nous sommes passés de l’autre côté pour reprendre un chemin qui grimpe abruptement jusqu au « monument ». Nous l avons fait avec des enfants de 8 et 10 ans.

As previously mentioned the key point is watch the tides!!! When it’s low you can scrabble across the rocks at the base of the cliffs to find Culver Cove. It is a scrabble and you need to stay low or you won’t see it.
However it’s well worth it, the wall is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the cave has a 6ft wall with doorways in it, blocking it off. It’s spooky and fascinating and you can make your own mind up as to whether it’s for pigeons or pirates!!
