Had over 2 hours 1 to 1 tour and if you are a Vanatic then I cannot recommend highly enough!
Despite growing up in Belfast and a long time fan I did not have a mental map of "the Hollow" and other key references. Al was a great guide and super knowledgeable

I had never been to Belfast before, and didn’t know when I would have the chance to be back again, so I knew for sure I wanted to set aside some time one day to do the Van Morrison Trail. To be perfectly honest, I was not a Van Morrison fan myself, but he is one of dad’s favorite musicians, so I originally was just planning on going to his birth house to take a picture to send back to my dad. Upon doing a little more research however, I saw there was an actual trail of places of interest that helped inspire certain lyrics in his music. I actually found the map and descriptions online, but if you want a physical copy you will have to go to the Eastside Visitor Center (they are £1).
I was actually surprised - being that Van Morrison is one of Belfast’s most prominent celebrities - that there wasn’t more information to be found. I actually barely even found the physical map (The Mystic of the East Trail map) - which was at the counter of a little cafe inside the visitor center.
But anyway, once I got my map I was on my way. Other reviews have said that the map itself is fairly basic and that that makes it hard to find exact streets - which I wouldn’t disagree with - however once you get to the first stop, the following stops are fairly easy to follow along with. That being said, I still used my google maps for additional help just in case. I don’t have an international data plan, but if you open google maps up (even in airplane mode) the location dot usually pops up at least - allowing you to get your bearings a bit. Also, the East Side Visitor Center has free wifi as well if you want to map your route out there and take some screen shots before continuing on your way.
I was lucky enough to have quite a nice day weather wise, and the walk was actually very nice and peaceful - Van Morrison fan or not. But what was really nice is that, upon later making a short video to send back to my dad in which I paired every stop to some of the music associated with them, I had a new appreciation for that walk and the music itself. Whether I am a fan or not, seeing places that inspired the music of someone was actually very interesting. It’s as if you could actually see the music - particularly “Cyprus Avenue” and “Orangefield.”
So, if a non fan like me can enjoy the Van Morrison Trail, true Van fans will definitely enjoy and appreciate it as well.
One side note I will say though, is that Van Morrison’s birth house (the only stop on the trail that has an actual placard) is, today, someone else’s actual house. So please respect the gate and the house itself - as well as the people who live there - if you try to get a picture. I felt a little awkward taking a picture there myself to be honest, just because I felt like I was invading someone else’s privacy, so I just took a quick selfie and kept walking.

The Van Morrison Trail is focused around a walk through the neighborhood where Van grew up. For fans who are familiar with his music this will be an enlightenment, however it could be improved significantly with some simple signage. The only spot on the walk where his name appears is on the house in which he spent his childhood. Other than that you must rely on a rather schematic map to guide you and this is challenging. I was able to navigate it with the help of google maps on my smartphone and otherwise I might not have completed the walk. Please mark the trail with a few signposts to make it easily navigable. I have given it four stars because I was motivated enough to navigate through the walk even though it is not labelled in any way.

So many of his Lyrics are inspired by his birth place , the smell of the bakery from across the street

Is there a guided tour in August coming for a few days?

As far as I know the trail is self guided only. You can purchase a Trail Map at the East Side Visitor Center (or find it online).
