We were hugely impressed with this museum and learnt so much about life off-shore and the oil drilling industry as well as so many other aspects of life at sea. It is beautifully laid out and a must for anyone interested in such subjects. The amount of information provided is excellent and so well laid out. We were delighted with all we saw and learnt and no entry fee.

Very disappointing visit, I understand it’s located in an old building but it’s not very disabled and wheelchair accessible, approx 70% of the museum is not disabled accessible. They could improve it by putting removal ramps into some of the rooms. Definitely would not recommend if you have any disabilities.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. While we are able to provide access to our collections over three floors in the modern addition to Aberdeen Maritime Museum, we appreciate that access to sections of Provost Ross House, dating from 1593, are not accessible for wheelchairs.

This museum includes abundant history and knowledge related to sailing, diving and the development of oil platforms in the North sea. The oil platform in the middle of the building is cherry on top, along with nice views of the port at the top floor.

A really interesting museum dedicated to Aberdeen’s most lucrative industry-all things maritime!
The museum starts right back in the 12th century when Aberdeen was first made a royal burgh and travels right up to recent times, exploring the shipbuilding industry, the fishing/trawling industry, trade and of course, the oil and gas industry. It also discusses the development of the port/harbour and how it has changed and developed over the centuries to accommodate Aberdeen’s changing industries and ever increasing business.
The museum also delivers some social history, touching on the lives of the people involved in these industries. I would say that the museum is a little heavy on the oil and gas side of things which although to me was unsurprising, does seem to have attracted some criticism in other reviews, so just a heads up.
My husband and I spent a good couple of hours exploring the museum and the free entry and nice staff made it all the better! There’s also a nice wee gift shop.
All in all I found the museum a very enjoyable experience and would recommend.

Really good museum, well laid out and very informative. It's a nice place to visit for a couple of hours and nice to find it's free. Staff very friendly and happy to help.

A free museum, inside it presents an exhibition ranging from diving suits to the reconstruction of a cabin of a historic British ship on various finds of the time! Really a nice experience to get in touch with life then! I recommend it

A small museum contains kinds of ships, boats and sea tolls, nice to have a quick look.
Enters are free, no reservation needed, not much crowded, good for school students, and children.

Genuinely enjoyed the visit and didn't expect to spend as much dwell time learning about Aberdeen's maritime history and people. The exhibits are mainly housed in the 16th-century Provost Ross’s House and also a sleek modern design link building. Worth a visit if you are ever in the area and it's FREE! Only suggestion for improvement would be to increase the sound level of the film in the Education Suite as it was too low and people dropping in/out drowned out the voice-over and maybe stock a book about Thomas Blake Glover in the Shop.

It was not my first time visiting the Maritime Museum but it became the most memorable as its happened that I came at the right time for a museum tour with a museum guide Farah. I learned so much about the important role of Aberdeen in the shipbuilding industry as well as contribution to innovation of diving equipment and oil rig construction. I was fascinated by the life story of Thomas Glover, who is also known as the Scottish Samurai for his prestigious award form the Japanese government. I would highly recommend to visit Aberdeen Maritime Museum for a guided tour or just explore on your own or with family members. Nataliya

There is no parking on site but a 'pay for parking' site about 80m from the building (Ship Row NCP) and a shopping mall parking site about the same distance in the other direction (Union Square). Costs are about £2.50/hr by memory. Like many other cities in Europe there is no free parking anywhere.

Hi, we don’t have anything on display in Aberdeen Maritime Museum from the Viking period. There is little/no evidence of Viking activity in Aberdeen. There is a report of a raid that might have been an attack on Aberdeen and another report of a Viking Prince having a month long party with a Scottish king in Aberdeen but no artefacts.

Hello, apologies for the late reply. We don't have set days for exhibitions as we are open 7 days a week, so you can visit any day. Our current exhibition is Kiss of Death: Death and Mourning in the Victorian Era which runs until 18 June 2017.
Our opening hours are:
Monday - Saturday 10am-5pm
Sunday 12noon - 3pm

This is not my review-I have not been to Aberdeen for over forty years. The Treetops hotel review and th day trip to Ireland aren't mine either. I suspect you have confused me with my sister(she has the same surname and initial). My sister has already contacted you about the mistake but has not had a reply to date. Coul you please fix this?
