‪I did this lovely walk along to the Neidpath tunnel and across the old bridge as a clockwise riverside walk loop. It can be done anticlockwise too, and the path is easy enough to follow without a map.
From the Kingsmeadows car park I crossed the Peebles bridge (see photo 1) and descended to the riverside path on the south side of the river Tweed. Follow the footpath that is flat tarmac at first, then rocky and uneven with many tree roots, undulating a bit - so good footwear and care is needed. Always keep beside the river.
Pass the steel Fotheringham footbridge (unless you want a much shorter walk back to town) and keep on the riverside footpath till you reach the Neidpath tunnel - look behind you!. Shortly after the tunnel you can cross the old railway bridge (photos 2 and 3) and descend at the signposted steps onto the north bank of the Tweed. Follow this clear riverside path back to Peebles, (photos 4 and 6) again passing the Fotheringham bridge. You also pass underneath Neidpath castle (photo 5) near the bend in the river - it's OK for a visit but nothing special.
There are some magnificent tree specimens (see the lonesome pine in photo 7) in the mature woodlands en route. Look out for waterfowl, dippers and herons. (See photos 8 and 9 - look closely!)
I took 1 hour 15 minutes at a moderate to brisk pace, so allowing 1 and a half to two hours with children allows time to explore and get feet wet.
An excellent 3-mile walk for a family with children, it's varied and has some lovely viewpoints too - see my amateur photos.‬

‪Safe, flat. well surfaced walk along the Tweed River valley. Even in cold and windy weather it was still enjoyable with many parts really well protected by the natural features from the cold wind.‬

‪We walked a small part of the path as part of the Tweed Valley Trail Walk on Saturday. First part of path from Hay Lodge Park was quite muddy, but interesting, with lovely views of Neidpath Castle and local wildlife on the River Tweed, which you’re very close to at points.(This is probably not a part of the Railway Path) Even a brave soul fishing! The part of this walk which was particularly enjoyable was the walk through Neidpath Tunnel, which had been specially illuminated for the event. I can imagine a walk through this in complete darkness would be quite spooky! We emerged into otherworldly mist, 600 metres later. All in all I’d go back and do more of this path, even though it was very muddy underfoot. Not a problem with decent boots.‬

‪Interesting walk on occasionally muddy path as it had been raining heavily on the previous day. We visited the tourist office in Peebles first and Dougie was most helpful giving us information and maps on how to get to the walk.

the walk began along the River Tweed on an occasionally muddy path, passing below the mostly ruined Neidpath Castle, and eventually reached Neidpath Viaduct on the old railway from Symington to Peebles.
We chose to walk on the trackbed to the first station, at Lyne, where Lyne Water passes under the trackbed to join the River Tweed. There is a small bit of the station platform remaining at Lyne. Took about an hour easy stroll to get here from the viaduct.

We then retraced our steps as far the viadut which we then crossed before plunging into the murky depths of Neidpath Tunnel. This is the longest tunnel on a railway walkway in Britain at 600 metres and a torch is a must(phone torch is sufficient). Its actually quite scary. Wouldn't want to do it on my own.

At the Peebles end of the tunnel the old trackbed was very waterlogged and muddy and required very careful negotiation. Not far back to Peebles after this.

Round trip took us 3 1/2 hours from leaving the tourist office to arriving back.

Recommended on a good dry day.‬

‪Walk from Peebles to Lyne Sation on one bank of the River Tweed and back on the southern bank. One and a half hours each way, so take refreshments, if not a picnic. A wonderful walk on a fine summer's day.......‬

‪A a supportive campaigner for this development it is great to see the path now in operation. The decision to extend the tarmac section all the way from Peebles to Innerleithen means that walkers, cyclists, mobility scooters, and pony trekkers now have a smooth clean surface to journey on.

Following the route of the old railway line, the path connects Innerleithen and Peebles in a way that provides road free travel. There is also a half-way halt at Cardrona where refreshments can be obtained from the cafe there which was a former railway station.

A new suspension bridge was built over the river Tweed east of Cardona, to complete the connection and is worth of praise in its own right.‬

‪Opened in April 2013, this five-mile (8km) path links Peebles and Innerleithen. It is flat, hard-surfaced and follows the course of a railway line first operated in 1864 then abandoned in 1962. The project, supported by the Scottish Government, the sustainable transport charity Sustrans and the Scottish Borders Council, took a decade to complete. The railway path, which negotiates the verdant floor of the Tweed Valley, with fine views of surrounding hills, is for use by cyclists, equestrians, joggers and walkers. At the Peebles end, the route is joined at Janet's Brae, a wood. Following a tunnel beneath the A72, it continues amid trees, close to the river Tweed, to Eshiels and a point providing access to Glentress Forest Trails Visitor Centre. The path threads a course through Cardrona golf course and crosses the Tweed on an original railway bridge to reach Cardrona station, now a small store and tea shop. Modern Cardrona Village, the only stretch where traffic might be encountered, leads to a grand finale. A new suspension bridge at Woodend sees the Tweed crossed again and, with the golf course left behind, the route passes alongside the river (keep a sharp eye out for bird life, including heron and kingfisher) to terminate at Innerleithen by a former level crossing on Traquair Road. Innerleithen station, now a private dwelling, is well preserved and is on the far side of Traquair Road. If on foot, buses run regularly along the A72 back to Peebles.‬
