I thoroughly enjoyed my 4-day tour to Islay with Scottish Routes. First, they were in touch regularly about the upcoming tour, and, second, the desk at the Caffé Nero in Edinburgh was friendly and helpful. A special shoutout to our driver and guide, Jamie, who was a friendly presence throughout the trip, with an awesome playlist of Scottish tunes. In spite of some setbacks with the ferry service to the island, he was able to improvise a series of pleasant visits in Inveraray (Hotel George, thank you Ivan!), and Campbeltown (Springbank and Glen Scotia distilleries). Jamie also arranged for accommodations for our group of 14 on short notice ( but stay away from Hotel Ardshiel, not ready for prime time; The Royal Hotel was deluxe.) Once on Islay, we had great tours at Ardbeg, Lagavulin, and Kilchoman distilleries, with generous pours and wonderful hosts at each. Altogether an unforgettable experience--thank you, Scottish Tours!

If you're a lover of Islay scotch, this is the trip you will never forget. Although Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Bowmore were the highlights, all the distilleries and tours were amazing and we could have never navigated them successfully without our Scottish Routes tour guides (Murray and Eddie). B&B accommodations were rustic and charming and the local restaurant fare was incredibly fresh (especially the seafood) and delicious. Nothing but positives to say about this experience and well worth the money.

I run a whisky club in South Wales and committed to taking a group of our members to Islay before the end of the year (2024). I had used Scottish Routes 9 years ago and felt that they were the people to go back to for this tour. 14 of us flew to Glasgow early on a Friday morning in early October to be met at the Airport by Tour Guide Jamie Stewart and the Scottish Routes Mini-bus. The tour and the service provided by Scottish Routes - and their Tour Guide Jamie were all outstanding. Not a hint of criticism from anyone about any aspect of the time spent in Scotland. We had a fantastic trip and highly recommend Scottish Routes for anyone or any group considering a Whisky Tour in Scotland. Thank you Scottish Routes

Had a perfect first time, four-day Islay whisky tour with a few friends in late July/early August. The trip significantly exceeded our expectations, mostly because of our exceptional guide, Jamie. All of us have traveled extensively but rarely with a guided tour, preferring the freedom to find our own way. Stopping at multiple distilleries a day seemed like the right time to let someone else handle arrangements and logistics, which is exactly what happened. Jamie took care of everything - all we had to do was show up each morning.
The trip to the ferry, though a few hours, passed quickly. As a guide, Jamie was pleasantly talkative, with no end of interesting facts and trivia about Scotland, its history, and the areas/landmarks we passed. He immediately set everyone at ease with his calm delivery and practiced cadence. He mentioned he had been on this tour for eight years and it showed. Jamie had curated a 6-hour long playlist for the tour (often, but not exclusively Scottish musicians) to add emphasis, break up his stories, or set a specific tone. He also shared the playlist with the group afterward. There were comfortable moments of silence too - the tour wasn't just constant noise.
Our tours were the standard ("core") whiskies at each distillery but the sheer scale (10 stops in all) and wealth of knowledge from distillery employees made the tours worthwhile regardless an individual's the level of familiarity with these whiskies. Jamie kept track of timing to ensure we arrived punctually at each location. We were ushered on at times but never felt rushed. When plans changed, as they did several times through no fault of his or the tour, Jamie adapted. This always worked out to our advantage. We were remarkably lucky with timing, weather, and a responsible group, but Jamie clearly loves this tour. He took any opportunity to show us something extra or enhance the tour, including quickly stopping by an extra distillery, a seaside picnic, and hiking Oa to the American Monument. He took note of guests' interests (birdwatching, photography, hiking) and found ways to incorporate them smoothly along the journey.
Probably an overly lengthy way to say we were all tremendously impressed. This was the unforgettable trip of a lifetime. We will be back and now know exactly who to call.

This was our second tour with Scottish Routes. The first, 7-years ago, was a guy's distillery tour adventure. This time we brought our lovely wives. Not that we didn't hit a few (5) distilleries, but this 10-day vacation included a strong dose of sight-seeing and history. Suffice to say that all participants were very pleased with the agenda and how Scottish Routes conducted the tour. Our guide, Jacqueline, was very solicitous and did a good job of keeping us comfortable and on-schedule. Our accommodations were also very nice. And though we were aware of this, I should note that when travelling outside of major Scottish cities, vacationers should be prepared to haul luggage up 2-3 flights of steps. We also appreciated the fact that Jacqueline made advance dinner reservations for our group so that we never had to worry about where to dine in a strange city. One minor quibble: the van we travelled in did not have a PA system so that much of Jacqueline's driver's-seat commentary was lost on passengers in the back seats. Still, without exception, everyone in our group was very pleased with our Scotland Adventure and with the time and care put into it by Scottish Routes. Thanks.

My first trip outside the US and first group tour. Had a brilliant time, tried amazing whiskies, made friends in the group, had a guide (Murray) who seemed to know everyone on Islay and obviously enjoyed showing Scotland off. Do your best to pack light as you'll leave Islay with more than you came with; most distilleries we visited offers at least one exclusive that couldn't be purchased elsewhere.

Our trip to Islay, led by Moray, was nothing short of exceptional. Moray’s presence alone elevated the experience—he’s got the look and charm of a Celtic warrior, full of wit and banter, and he knows everyone on the island. He kept our group engaged, on time, and always laughing, making the journey feel effortless and deeply enjoyable.
Book with Scottish Routes. The attention to detail—from transportation to lodging—was seamless. It’s no wonder that a couple from the U.S. brought their whole family back for a second round. We booked this dream vacation with our 80 year father with dodgy knees so rest assured the trip is paced perfectly and accessible to all.
The real magic, of course, is Islay itself. We were excited to see the big 3 distilleries but had a great time exploring and tasting some exciting up-and-coming ones. The weather was fantastic, a rare treat for Islay, making the island’s landscapes all the more stunning. By the end of our trip to Ardbeg, the clinking of bottles in the back of the van told the story of how much we enjoyed ourselves! We were also treated to outstanding hospitality at Bowmore Castle, thanks to Alex and Allison, who served up a Scottish breakfast fit for an army.
For anyone considering an unforgettable trip, especially with their elderly parent or whiskey loving brother, spouse or aunt, Scottish Routes and Moray make for a perfect, stress-free adventure through and through.

One of the best tours ever! Great itinerary. Great guide. Great lodging at the Bowmore House. The tour exceeded expectations. If you love whisky or are whisky curious, this is a good tour to select. Highly recommended for both couples with one whisky lover and for solo travellers.

I've long wanted to do a trip like this, and it far surpassed all expectations. The journey and tastings are intense in every way. You will see amazing distilleries where the tour guides are excellent presenters, passionate about their brand and facilities, and the tastings are styled to perfection. Each tour is unique, focusing on the particular processes, equipment and strengths of each individual distillery. Other, non-distillery stops are wonderfully curated. The Island Bear is quite hospitable, with great hosts. Critical to the Tour’s success was our incredibly knowledgeable, humorous and organized guide, Moray Walker, who was unanimously well-liked. It's unclear how his encyclopedic brain fits in his cranium, because he appears to be reasonably normal, albeit resembling a heavyweight boxer. All the venues are happy to see Moray, which benefits his travelers. Finally, this tour is a wildly underpriced bargain. The drams and tours alone were well worth the price of admission. Slainte!

The first thanks are addressed to the Guide, named Jamie, a dedicated professional, kind and very attentive.
The chosen distilleries, where we had a tasting, were kind, with a highlight for the snack at Kilchoman!
