Absolutely fantastic! A must when in Edinburgh. We attended before the Military Tattoo. Everything was sheer perfection 👌!

A bagpiper met us at the door to begin our taste of Scotland. The show was quite touristy but good, with talented musicians, dancers, and singers. Tables are packed in tightly with little room for the servers to do their jobs. We couldn’t see parts of the show through the servers bringing food and clearing plates. The food was good but very small portions.

Highly entertaining show with a good menu. Well balanced between dance and song as well as an entertaining host. We went as a couple and were seated with a table with several other couples which meant that we didn't feel that we were on our own.

Set in beautiful surrounding it feels decadent as you walk in.
I had tried haggis earlier on my holiday but this place had a higher quality which changed my opinion of it (slightly).
The dancing was good, loved the fiddler.
Service was efficient and unobtrusive.

This completes my tenth year seeing the show and I have seen improvements on every level (but one- sound) in that time.
I come so often and now for so long because I have friends and family the world over who I like to give a taste of Scotland and know of no better way. And it has delighted every ONE of my many guests over the years.
And, as a regular, I really cannot stress the following enough: this is a show first, dining experience second. So- not a "Dinner Show", but a "SHOW with Dinner". Just to be clear.
With that out of the way- my review in the order of importance:
(1) THE SHOW (what one goes for, after all):
It is both professional AND also a bit of everything. Traditional and modern. The performers are professionals, make NO mistake. They do this as much for the love of their art as for their profession. They deserve every respect for showing off Scotland's rich and varied culture in a short time allotted to the show.
a) The dancers are each highly skilled in the traditional Scottish dance forms but also perform the more modern dances which show that Scotland's artists do not just sit back on their laurels. My favourites are the Sword Dance (traditional) and one of the high octane numbers like "Everybody Dance Now" (modern). The young performers, the Wee Highlanders, are an utter delight and not to be missed.
Note that the audience even get the opportunity to dance with the performers on two occasions and I recommend that you take the opportunity to take the floor for a ceilidh dance. You will not be disappointed as ceilidh dancing is one of the finest social traditions there is.
b) The singers are really good, everyone of them in each their own way, and the rich tradition of song in Scotland is in great hands with them. From the songs lost in the mists of time (Loch Lomond) to those which tell Scotland's story (The Massacre of Glencoe) to the present day of Scottish pop music (500 Miles)- they are delivered by the three tenors and Prestonfield's Mistress of Song with great feeling and passion for their culture. OK- so the songs, just as with the dances, cater to all and are not just traditional folk music. But that is the reality- Scotland has a history of music which doesn't stop with acoustic folk music. Be prepared to sample the full range of what Scotland has to offer!
I particularly like the performance of "Donald Where's Your Trousers?" by the three tenors, their harmonies on "Killicrankie", and Skye Boat Song a la Outlander (did you know that the Outlander theme lyrics are actually based on Robert Louis Stevenson's "rewriting" of the original lyrics?) and Massacre of Glencoe so hauntingly performed by Brigid Mhairi.
c) The musicians are all multi-award winning performers, from the amazing drummer, sizzling accordion, melodious fiddler to guitar, bodhran (traditional flat drum), bagpipes (both lowland and highland) and piano- it all goes to show that Scottish music is alive and KICKING. Without them, there would be nothing and my favourite is the pub scene, something I have had the very good fortune to experience for real over the past 35 years in Scotland.
d) My criticism is that the sound is only good when you're at the back of the room, dead centre. This is FYI for the organisers AND attendees:
i. To the organisers: the sound is very poor/unclear for all but those in the back of the room. Those with tables by the stage cannot, for example, hear any of the voice overs. And that is a shame as the history of the music/dances are key to full enjoyment.
ii. To the attendees/audience: if you get a chance, and you are interested in hearing the performances at their best, go stand by the door/back of the room. It's waaaay better.
(2) THE DINNER:
a) The service is always good. Bear in mind that the lads and lasses of Prestonfield serve up to 500 people an evening in a short time and in a venue which was not built as a dinning-room (it really is a stable!). So- kudos to them! I have always found them to be so accommodating and quick to please.
b) The food is fair to good:
i. The starters are all good. I particularly rate the soup (but it has been a bit cooler than I like at times), but the ham and goats cheese are also well received.
ii. The haggis (a vegetarian option is available) is among the best I know (and I do like it a lot, so do have it where I can) and I am really pleased to note that it does feature both the tatties and the sweeter neeps to offset the peppery haggis.
iii. The fish pie is not yet up to par (too much pastry, hardly any fish) so avoid if you are not partial to pastry. The beef, my go-to dish, can be a tad inconsistent (as I mentioned- this is my tenth year and I go more than once a year), and the vegetarian dish has not been sampled by me so no comment.
iv. The dessert, a typical Scottish one, could be better. It needs more fruit, whisky and oats, less cream, to be considered a resounding success.
All in all- it is a successful dining experience if you bear in mind that you're there for the show and that the dinner is more of a convenient way to incorporate eating out with a show.
(3) THE VENUE
Go early. Go walk around. Have a drink/afternoon tea in the house! Honestly- if you do not get the opportunity to see a Scottish country estate during your time in Scotland then you're missing out on something. And Prestonfield is just that- a country estate's Baroque mansion smack-bang in the city centre. And the afternoon tea? Delish!

This is an excellent performance I highly recommend seeing the show. I was not too enthusiastic before we went but I am so glad that I saw it . If you’re in Scotland go see the show!

The Taste of Scotland Scottish Show takes place in a tent on the grounds of Prestonfield, a prestigious estate turned into a hotel. The tent is large, accommodating perhaps 200 or more people. Round tables of eight populate the tent space and a stage occupies one side. This place is a tourist trap. I attended only because the rest of my group wanted to be there. I feel that I'm being generous when I give this venue an 'average' rating.
The evening starts with a piper who poses for photographs with guests. After this photo-op, we were seated at cramped tables with little space between tables, uncomfortable seating and little room for table settings. Plates, flatware, and glassware were appropriate to the occasion and nicely done.
First, our orders were taken from a set menu. I chose Ayrshire Ham Hock - shredded over greens (ok), followed by Haggis with gravy (ok), and then Cullen Skink Fish Pie - awful...mostly potatoes topped with cheese...very little fish...they probably let the fish swim through a broth and used that, and finally Raspberry Cranachan (ok). The beef that some ordered looked a bit better. Service was terrible. Handsome waiters who were aloof and unconcerned. Some at our table waited for drinks for over a half hour...and, mind you, these drinks were included in the fixed price.
After dinner, there was a show. One actress had a particularly nice voice. The rest...Mediocre at best, and the costumes looked like they'd been made at home by the actresses mothers. Tourist trap. Avoid at all costs.

This is a must see if you are in Edinburgh Scotland. The show was so much fun and food was excellent. Tried haggis and black pudding for the first time!! Not required, but an option. Many nice dinner options. Love to go back and see again.

The facility, the food and service was excellent, but the best part was the real and authentic people, singers, dansers and musicians. It was a heartwarming varying performance and good interaction with the guests.

Breathtaking location; delicious dinner; and fantastic show, we had a fun night. A great way to experience some Scottish music and dance, and of course the food, including haggis which you can order "vegetarian" if you prefer.

Is it possible to take public transit to the show? We will be staying on Princes Street. If we need to go by taxi, what would the approximate cost be?
كُتب بتاريخ 28 يونيو 2018
You can take the number 2 to the prestonfield housing estate and walk 5 minutes or pay around £10 from Princess Street in a taxi. To walk it from Waverly is about 45 minutes.

HI, I am so excited to take my group of high school students/parents to this lovely show. Can you tell me what the dress code is? Is is smart/business casual? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
كُتب بتاريخ 20 يناير 2018
Hi, I am so glad you are headed for Scotland and I hope I have answered your question in time. I wore jeans and a white button down shirt and that was fine. The performers are truly more concerned with everyone having a fun evening then they are about a dress code. Enjoy! I hope to make it back again next year and will definitely include the show again in my itinerary.

How far in advance would I need to book? I’m planning my trip for the middle of September.
كُتب بتاريخ 4 يناير 2018
You should not need to book that far in advance I booked only a few weeks before we went in July

We have booked a caravan via trip advisor, but we have no real confirmation which caravan park it is as the info is not on the email. The map shows nothing but blue. Through the limited info we think we know, but the reference number provided does not match anything on their site, this is causing some concern as we are due to arrive tomorrow and not knowing which site we are staying on will be quite stressful to say the least. The place is full of sites, the booking is under A.S. Williams.

You didn't really ask a question???? If it has anything to do with parking I can not give you an answer. Sorry.

Saluti e buon viaggiio
