We were a small group of four friends, looking for something a bit more personal than even a small group tour. We wanted the option to explore a location at our leisure. And if the mood hits, we enjoyed the ability to pivot and change our itinerary on the fly (within reason).
Will and his team at Iconic Tours understood the assignment! He put together a two week tour of Scotland, beginning and ending in Edinburgh (an awesome city BTW). Our assigned driver & guide for this trip was Gary - an absolute peach. He shared funny stories, made suggested changes to our plans that were spot on, and had the good humor to hang with four 60-something women without going nuts. We enjoyed his company and we all laughed a lot.
It was lovely not to drive on the "wrong side" of the road, and to just enjoy the views out the windows of the Mercedes Van. This alone made the custom tour worthwhile. But, Gary (our driver) was a HUGE asset throughout our trip. We saw things that weren't even on our radar at his suggestion, and avoided a couple of "tourist traps"
I honestly can't say enough about Will and the staff at Iconic Tours. Communication was prompt and thorough throughout preliminary discussions, planning, and during the trip itself. The team put together a fabulous trip for us, giving us memories for a lifetime!

My husband and I spent a really enjoyable day touring the Highlands with Scott as our driver/guide. It was our first time to Scotland and he was a fountain of information— history, myths and legends, and facts and figures. His passion for people and showing off Scotland were evident in every moment throughout the day. He took great care of us and highly recommend him.

Our day started with a cheerful greeting from our guide, Scott. He was prompt, friendly, and made us comfortable right away, literally and figuratively.
The weather was rough- rain and wind- named storm, in fact, but the warmth and generosity of our guide made up for it.
We learned a ton of interesting facts, stories, and lore (myths and legends) during our day trip with Scott, and enjoyed the beauty of the countryside from the warmth and comfort of the tour. We took photos, had snacks and a few breaks to stretch our legs along the way, including beautiful views, laughter, and some tasty treats.
We enjoyed every minute of our tour for a lot of reasons. However, the thing that made ours so memorable was our amazing guide, Scott. He connected well with each of us, including our teen, and had her chatting up a storm, which is rare!
We are grateful we had such a great guide, and appreciated how it made such a rainy day that much brighter.

Glencoe is stunning, as is the scenery on the way up and back, bit it's a great guide like Scott who can bring them all together to make a wonderful day.

We used Iconic Tours for a two week custom private tour of Scotland. We were four women traveling together, none of whom had been to Scotland in at least 40 years! Will helped in the months before our trip in choosing hotels and guest houses, and even restaurants from Edinburgh, Oban, Glenco, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Pitlochry and St Andrews. He made up a great itinerary that allowed us to have full days, but not frantic days. We met Will for a tour of Edinburgh on our first afternoon and we barely felt the jet lag from our flight from Boston.
The rest of the two weeks was covered by Gary who was a delight as our guide and an expert driver. He helped us to stay focused on all the things we wanted to do, but we never felt rushed. He was ready to serve a dram each afternoon from an extensive selection of Will’s collection. Apparently this is “a thing” in Scotland as I saw a few other small tours serving drams from the “boot”. I suspect our selection was a much higher quality and variety of whiskies than those other tours. After all, Will is an expert, and he provided the whisky! It was a fun extra and we loved it.
It was surprising how affordable it was to have a 100% custom trip with such wonderful guides (Will and Gary) and driver (Gary).
We had the unfortunate (and horrifying) experience of witnessing a head on collision between the car immediately in front of us and an oncoming car. We were on a curvy, narrow, hilly road coming out of Oban. We were never in danger as Gary was an excellent driver and was able to stop well before anyone in our car was hurt, or even jostled. He was completely professional. We were delayed as we waited for emergency vehicles and for Gary to make a statement to police, since we were the 1st car immediately behind the crash! It only made us that much happier that we were not driving ourselves! Ambulances took the hurt passengers of the two cars away, but they were conscious and we felt pretty sure they’d be alright.
I was the one in our group who had thought we were being extravagant by having a driver. I’ll never feel that way again!
I recommend Iconic Tours to anyone traveling to Scotland. The depth of knowledge of Scot’s History and their way of delivery was simply wonderful. It made the countryside and the castles come alive. There were so many interesting “real stories” to debunk the false ones told by scalawags. (Lots of myths in Edinburgh regarding Harry Potter and other fancy tales). I suspect the high level of expertise can be expected among all the Iconic Tours guides.

It was a pleasure to work with you all to make an itinerary for your two weeks in Scotland. When I travel I want a local experience so I am always happy to recommend places to stay, eat and drink.
It was a real pleasure to meet you for a tour in Edinburgh, it was a great day for me and I am glad you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
Gary had a wonderful time with you for the rest of your time in Scotland and as you found out, not only is he a great guide he is extremely safe and always males sure our guests safety, comfort and enjoyment of all things Scotland it top priority, as it is for all our guides.
Scotland is great, we love it, we love to share it and we glad you loved seeing it with us as well.

We did the all day Central Highlands driving tour with Will and it was amazing. Best activity of our 2 week vacation in the UK!
Will is a wealth of information on all things Scottish and is very humorous too. He’s also an expert on Scotch whisky!
Things we saw - The Kelpies (amazing horse sculptures), Sterling Castle (exterior only; information Will provided on the history of Sterling Castle was great), Highland Cows! (adorable - we felt like children feeding them), lunch at a small restaurant with excellent fish and chips, stone circle, lochs, pub stop, chocolate shop (so delicious).
I highly recommend the Iconic Highlands driving tour! 5+++ rating

It was a real pleasure to meet you all and I am so happy you enjoyed the day so much with our visit to the Kelpies, Stirling Castle, pubs, stone circles, fish and chips, all the good stuff in life.
I am very honoured to be considered a whisky expert, it took years of serious drinking (all for research purposes of course) to get this stage and I don't waiver from the cause and I am committed to finding more great drams to recommend.

Gary took my friends and me on a tour of the Scottish Highlands that was absolutely amazing. We saw so many beautiful sites, including Doune castle, meeting some gorgeous Highland Cows (Heilan Coos), visiting an incredible world-class chocolate shop, and more. It was an unforgettable experience, and Gary was a fantastic guide and a true joy to talk to and spend time with. I'd recommend Iconic Tours to anyone!

During my families trip to Scotland we scheduled a private driving tour from Edinburgh to St. Andrews. The entire experience with Iconic tours from start to finish was absolutely perfect. I engaged with Will to answer some initial questions and also to confirm the booking. Will was very responsive, very efficient and worked with us to customize our driving tour. Scott was our tour guide for the driving tour and was absolutely amazing. I have had a dozen+ different tour guides during my trips to Europe and I can say Scott was the best tour guide I have ever had. He was extremely knowledgeable, flexible, funny and engaging. We had lots of great conversation during the entire tour, it was great!! I will always cherish the memory of our trip to St. Andrews, it was an amazing experience and Iconic Tours was a huge part of what made that day so special.

We took a private walking tour of Edinburgh with Gary and it was excellent. Gary was incredibly knowledgeable about the city and showed us many sites around city center. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking to get their bearings in Edinburgh and hit many key sights in a short period of time.

Jim was very knowledgeable and a compelling storyteller. We saw so much - castles, lochs, Kelpie, Callendar, distillery, beautiful Highlands. He made it a fun day and took into account our preferences to focus on what we wanted. Money well spent to see a lot in a very memorable way

Our day trip to Inverness and back to Edinburgh was amazing. Scott picked us up promptly (wearing a kilt) and showed us many interesting stops along the way. We really enjoyed his humor and historical knowledge. We would have missed so much on our trip to Scotland if we hadn't booked this trip. Thank you, Scott!

Is it possible to take this tour "without climbing up and down lots of stairs"?

Hi Emmahayley,
It is possible to do the tour without climbing up and down stairs, but it means we have to double back a few times and as a result it kind of doesn't work so well for group tours where I have to take everyone into consideration, but for private tours it is not a problem.
If I can do anything else to help please let me know.
