Staff were lovely. Restaurant was clean and well organised.
I felt the food was average. I paid £16.90 for a salad! I expected something special for that but I was disappointed.
The peaches were tinned and there were about 4/5 pieces of Parma ham. Many, many slalom leaves and not much else.
Overall disappointing and expensive for what we got. £8 for wine spritzer.
There were only 4 cocktails at the advertised £5 in the Secret Garden.

Great day at 56 North, We had Lunch there after attending a Cheese & Gin Experience which was fantastic, a great selection of gins

The guy who greeted us was truly exceptional. He delivered all the COVID rules in a positive and entertaining way and there is absolutely nothing entertaining about COVID rules. We felt safe and assured and relaxed. He was engaging and knowledgeable and recommended one of the best gins I have ever had. Thank you so much for our visit today. It was great! We had our heart set on going to the Pear Tree but will definitely come to you next time.

Feel like I have been conned today for lunch. Me and my friend came here to take advantage of the eat out to help out government offer. We checked the government website before hand to check 56 North was on the list. It was. We hadn't booked a table but our server told us there was one available and mentioned nothing to us. When we got the bill we had been charged full price. When questioning it apparently you only get the 50% deal if you book a table. Nobody mentioned this to us. Absolute farce

I’ve genuinely never have a bad meal here. I had the itison deal where you got a burger, fries and a drink for just £9. Absolute bargain ! The burgers are fantastic quality, the Stilton so salty and tangy, the fries are so crispy and fluffy and the waiter knows *everything* about gin !!!
If you’ve ever thought of going for lunch here, just do it. You won’t regret it

We booked this as a group of 6 for a 50th birthday- and what a fabulous couple of hours. Neil opened our eyes on how to drink (and not drink) a range of gins. And all enjoyed with some great cheese. Thoroughly recommend it - but be prepared to never drink gin the same way again. Just wow!

My husband received a gift voucher for 2 to attend a 2 hour gin and cheese tasting masterclass at 56 North in Edinburgh.
We received our booking confirmation with an offer of 20% off our food bill for before or after the event so booked in for lunch before hand.
We were welcomed by Neil who would be our gin guide in the class who advised that if we ordered a gin from the extensive list to go with our lunch that we would tasting later he would steer us away and also recommended we didn’t have tea or coffee as it would ruin the tasting for us which I thought was considerate.
Lunch was lovely the best dish being the smoked salmon salad nicoise with a perfect poached egg on top - delicious!!
The tasting itself was great fun led by Neil who was extremely knowledgable and passionate about all things gin and he was hugely entertaining throughout!
8 different gins 8 different cheeses and several different mixers were on the table in a small tasting room with 4 tables of 4. Neil walked us through each gin tasting blind and then revealed what it was and the history of it suggesting which mixer would enhance it best and what cheese to have it with. This was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday and we learnt a huge amount about gin and our own tastes. I would highly recommend this.

This was a Fathers’ Day treat for two of our party - and what a treat it was. Our host successfully matched eight gins, with eight mixers (predominantly tonics) and eight Scottish cheeses. And I’ve got to say he was extremely successful. I’d recommend this addition to your next Edinburgh itinerary.

56 North often has these Itison deals and we finally took advantage of one. I had the Bandit Burger with mushrooms, blue cheese and sweet potato fries while my husband had a relatively plain burger. Cocktails were good and we also had some of their gin made on site - I don't normally like gin that much, but the blood orange gin and tonic at £6.00 was so good I had another!
Service very quick and friendly - will go back.

First of all I love that this place is dog friendly! Talking to Larry the whippet made my night!
My husband was booked in for the gin lovers tour and I decided to tag along.
The tour was fantastic, really interesting chat and lots of gins to try....
Meanwhile back in the bar I was very happy. The cocktails are fantastic. One of the specials for the night was PornStar Slushie and it was delicious. You could really taste the alcohol and the flying saucers were such a nice touch!
My friend had the coconut and pineapple daiquiri and said it was delicious too.
The quality of drinks were so good that despite having a table booked elsewhere we decided to stay at 56 for food.
I had the smoked salmon starter. It was very nicely presented, and very tasty. My husband and friends had the haggis dippers which, apparently, they could have eaten a bucket load of! (Praise indeed!)
My husband had a burger which was a very good portion size! A few of us had tacos, which are part of the lite bites bit of the menu, meaning they were a little small, however it left room for pudding.... I still would have them again because although small they were perfectly formed. I had the Thai pork, for the portion there was alot of pork. Delicious. Along with a side of sweet potato fries you cant go wrong.
Unfortunately the puddings were a little disappointing. We decided to share the lemon drizzle muffin, cheesecake and creme scotch egg. The muffin was a little dry but presented well and lots of ice-cream with it. The cheesecake was cheesecake and the scotch egg was, well weird, not necessarily bad just strange.... we still polished the lot of it though!
The staff were excellent with recommendations of other drinks and friendly banter.
Toilets were spotless and plenty of room.
I will definately go back next time I am in Edinburgh!
