My nephew is a member at this course. I was visiting from overseas and managed to get a game with him on the weekend. Excellent course with good greens, was a little wet from overnight rain but still great. Really enjoyed the day.

I had the pleasure of playing a golf team match recently and was very impressed with the clubhouse facilities, the staff, the members that we played against and particularly the course which was in excellent condition. A great day out!

We arrived around 09.15 hoping for a tasty breakfast and were disappointed that the surly bartender told us that no food was available, only coffee. Having waited 20 minutes for the coffee we left without anything, for our round.
We loved the course which was in immaculate condition, and reached the half way house where we had been told hot sausage rolls and pies would be available. They were not!
In the very nicely appointed bar after our game, the same, surly and very harrassed bartender, kept us waiting for ages but we finally managed to order some egg and bacon rolls. They were totally inedible, stale rolls, and hard reheated bacon. So disappointing - not what we expected.

Royal Burgess dates back to 1735, almost 20 years before St. Andrews became
a club. A million pound renovation has greatly improved the facilities.
The course is a parkland layout, with gentle rolling hills and varied 18 holes.
The greens were in magnificent condition and the whole surroundings reflected
lush green colours, maybe due to the amount of rain in the two weeks before my
visit. Hitting the almost 300-yard par 4 18th green with a tee shot will have
you floating on air, and into the clubhouse.
Beware of the dress code rules. Certain areas of the clubhouse require a jacket
and tie; but it is worth exploring. Just inside the lobby are glass presentation cases
that house probably the oldest collection of golfing memorabilia.

I wanted to play golf during our visit to Scotland to cross it off my "bucket list." Originally, I searched at St. Andrews, but couldn't get a tee time as a single. Royal Burgess booked me as a single and it was a great experience. It is a beautifully maintained parkland course and was in excellent condition. Three members asked me to join their threesome and were extremely hospitable and patient with my less-than-stellar game - even when I lost a couple balls. The wind blew a little, it drizzled, then it rained, the sun came out for two or three holes, and it rained again. Even so, it was a great experience - enhanced when my hosts invited me into the Spike Bar for a pint. Thank you Tony, Felix, and David - and all your mates who made my round at the oldest golfing society (1735) such a memorable experience.

Beautiful parkland course which plays fair even if you land in the trees ... nevertheless you need to drive straight and far... very nice staff , lots of history - a remarkable place !

What a nice visit at the Royal Burgess. the golf course is very well maintained and has a good variety of holes. it is only a short ride from the city centre and is highly recommended to visit, good test for both higher and low hp players. Clubhouse serves nice lunch if you need 'fuel' before/after your round. I am looking forward to coming back. it was a pleasure.

Unfortunately we visited whilst alterations to the clubhouse were in progress, but that did not detract from a fascinating golf course, not long, but needing careful thinking on each hole to get into the right position to attack the flag. The greens had recently been cored, but one could see the excellent condition they were in, even if not playing to their best whilst we were there. A welcome addition since we were there 9 years ago is an excellent half-way house, albeit after the 12th. Good selection of soft drinks and snacks. We are convinced this will be a must visit once the clubhouse alterations were finished which we understand will be in early june.

Over the last 4 years there's been much time, money and expertise invested in upgrading this to a superb golf course to play. Testing, yet fair, it will appeal to golfers of all handicap standards. The greens are the best I've played on any course in the last few years - well maintained they're consistent and very true ... the ball goes where you aim it. The ball rolls! Undoubtedly the greens are a highlight of any round here.
A professionally run society, you'll receive a warm welcome and after your round enjoy quality golfer's food.
If you're visiting Edinburgh or East Scotland, flying into Edinburgh airport and brining your clubs make sure you play here - it's only 10 minutes from the airport. Not only will you enjoy a superb golf course, you'll also see a considerable amount of golfing history and memorabilia in the beautiful club house.
A "must do" if you're in the area.
