This tour is a lighthearted, entertaining and informative way to learn new things about Edinburgh's heritage and gain a better appreciation of the city. Although it has a film/movie theme no prior knowledge of Scottish/filmed in Scotland productions is needed and it is just as interesting for Edinburgh residents as it would be for visitors to the city. Great way to re-discover Edinburgh's stunning buildings, streets and get a bit of exercise too.
Note - it lasts about two hours and it is a walking tour - so you do need to be reasonably fit, especially as their are a number of steps and cobbled street to negotiate.

We read about this tour via Trip Advisor - we weren't disappointed! Having booked a week or so before our visit and were pleasantly surprised to find that they could do a personalised tour for just the two of us if required (Sunday afternoon in January)
We arranged a time and Ally & Cally were there waiting for us a few minutes before our due 'departure time' outside the Festival Theatre, we found them very easy to chat to and really knowledgeable about not only the tour but the city in general.
Even if you haven't seen any of the films set in this fair city this tour is well worth the time, effort & reasonable cost, the insights that Ally & Cally give are 'priceless' it was a perfect accompaniment to our weekend stay, no I'd say The highlight' they really made our weekend!
The tour moves around the central areas that have featured in many great films over the decades and they both bring the locations to life with their witty/incisive commentary, if you thought you knew it all - think again.
Some of the tales just add a magical slant to the tour (never knew James Bond had a 'real' job in his youth), it has to be on your list if you have the time, we were so pleased we took the time (2 hours - in daylight) to take this 'adventure'.
Overall it has to be one of the best tours going - not the 'tourist trap' fodder of some we have experienced in other cities, this is the real McCoy and should be on your list - Absolutely brilliant!!!

The tour was booked for a group of ten Edinburgh friends.
The two hosts were in character from start to end and great fun, corny jokes just like the old movies. Great movie knowledge of not just Edinburgh based movies but background to actors, directors and other locations. Hopefully our groups additional local knowledge will be added.
Gentle walking pace but flat shoes recommended for the Edinburgh cobbles, steps and a trip to the graveyard. Coming in October added to the eery atmosphere of Greyfriars Kirk.
Lots of Harry Potter references, some in unlikely places, then on a journey via the centre of the earth through James Bond, Greyfriars Bobby, Burke and Hare, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Shallow Agra e and Trainspotting. Started at Festival Theatre via University Buildings, Greyfriars, Grassmarket, Victoria Street, The Mound ending at the National Gallery to end with Sunshine on Leith. All great fun and well worth the price.

I enjoyed this tour, lots of facts about films and a bit of humour! Took me to closes in Edinburgh that I hadn't been to before.

I enjoyed this tour. It was interesting, informative and different. My film buff friends will love it. The guides are well informed and nice.

Have done most of the edinburgh walking tours and wanted to try something different. Went along with husband and 2 teenage boys - 17 and 19. Was fascinating what we learnt about edinburgh over the years and ally and cally provided such a fun, interactive and humourous take on the many eras of film explored during the evening. Boys were gripped from the word go and have raved about it to their movie mates. Really enjoyed regular opportunities to ask questions and generally chat with 2 very friendly professionals who had very obviously done their homework. Great evening out for the family!

We did The Reel Edinburgh Tour on our last visit to Edinburgh. I must admit that, as someone who knows nothing about Scottish movies, I was skeptical, but went along to appease my husband who is a real movie junkie.
I loved it! Hollywood musicals, British classics and Disney favorites all feature in this witty dialogue between the two characters - a perfect balance of historical information, movie trivia and amusing anecdotes. Their knowledge is phenomenal and I was surprised by how much Edinburgh has featured in the world of film on both sides of the pond.
Although the walking was easy and well paced, we visited a whole lot of historic and scenic locations which provided a perfect backdrop to the engaging performances.
A must do for anyone visiting Edinburgh, movie buffs or not!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I took this tour, but I learned a lot of really cool things about film productions that have been Edinburgh-based, and it was all presented in such a fun interactive way that it was an absolute blast. Harry Potter to Greyfriars Bobby to James Bond to Trainspotting, and more .... it's made me look at this beautiful city in a new way. Thanks, Allie and Callie!

We went on this tour last week and had a fantastic time! Ally and Cally were great guides taking us on an informative and often humorous tour of the City highlighting various filming locations and revealing how Edinburgh inspired many Cinema moments. I would recommend this tour for Cinema Fans and also for anyone wanting a more interesting and quirky view of the City than your typical tour provides. It's great value for money and takes you to some beautiful corners of this picturesque place.
