Been on our visit list for a while. It's quirky and beautiful. We were more impressed with the growing Kiwi fruits growing nearby.

We visited for a walk around the grounds while on our honeymoon in Scotland. We were initially going to get married here but it the owners wouldnt let us have any visitors for the day so we found another, better, place. However, we wanted to visit the Pineapple anyway while we were up that way and we were both blown away by how beautiful it is. The grounds are gorgeous, all the roses were in bloom, there is a lot of fruit trees and lots of wildlife. An really beautiful site, shame about the people in the small car park smoking weed though :(

I took my grandson who was studying architecture at Uni and wanted to see it. I live only 5 miles away so pretty local. What a shock I got when we arrived and found the narrow road to the attraction was practically non negotiable due to large pot holes and breaking up of the track which could not be avoided as the track is pretty narrow. I could not turn to go back for the same reason so had to continue. The Pineapple itself was interesting to my grandson but what an embarrassment to promote this attraction and expect the public to risk damage to their vehicles which is practically unavoidable to reach the attraction. I won't be visiting any of their sights again because of this!!!!

Signage at the entrance had basically collapsed. Track to the pineapple was extremely potholed and bumpy. No disabled parking. Disappointed.

Lovely place for a walk... variety of trails. Good for dogs & children. Need to take time on the road in... potholes & rough ground. Plenty parking.

The pineapple was interesting but the best bit was the ruins of the old house which was about a 30 min walk following the tracks through the woodlands and scrub (not sign posted so bit of a mystery tour).
Drive was is full of pot holes so cars only driven slowly.

The pineapple folly is not open to the public however you are able to wander round and take the dog for a walk. However the signage is poor, we circled round it for a while. And when we found the right road the surface was horrendous and covered in potholes. The car park was tiny so people were on the verges and the actual building when we finally made it was underwhelming. But it's been ticked off our list of NT places to visit.

The Pineapple is a folly built in the 1700s. It is basically the pineapple you see in the photos with storage rooms below it (you can't go inside and I don't think there's anything in them). There is also a long wall and an orchard-type garden in front of it. It was basically built for outdoor summer entertainment, so it isn't really a manor home even though it looks like it might be one.
The building is currently under the care of the National Trust of Scotland. There is no fee to go there. One earlier review mentioned scaffolding, but there was none there in our visit in August, 2022 and the structure itself looked to be in good repair.
NOTE: A few caveats.
1. We had a bad time finding this place with our GPS, which took us to a housing development to the south. The driveway (poorly marked) is off of the B9124 just west of the A905 north of Airth. I think it was only 100 meters or so from the A905 on the right hand side so look for it.
2. The drive is not in good shape. It is a single-track road in poor repair. The drive is only a half-mile or so, but it will be slow.
3. There is a parking area, but space is limited. It holds, perhaps, as few as 5 or 6 cars. Some were able to pull over on the sides of the drive, but that is difficult due to trees and other obstacles. You may have to wait a little for someone else to leave.
Despite these issues, this is well worth a visit. The pineapple is a truly unique building and routinely cited as one of the most unusual in Scotland. It is fun to see a structure built just to have a place for people to enjoy themselves. We liked the gardens on a fun day and had great photos to send our friends.

Despite following sat nav directions and going round in a circle, eventually found the entrance which is barely accessible by car never mind anything bigger.
Disappointed.

How do I get there using public transport from Edinburgh?

train from Waverley to Falkirk Grahamston. Then bus F16 towards Stirling. Opp Road End is your stop but it's still about 20 minute walk to the Pineapple. Also it's not open at a weekend.

What is the best way to get there from Edinburgh with a Britrail pass?

To reach the Pineapple by train is difficult unless you take the train to Falkirk and then a taxi which will be expensive. The pineapple is not easily accessible unless you have a car. As a private touring company (Carnegie Touring) I can provide a half or full day tour if required.
