Built circa 1542 , there is , sadly , really not much left of the remains of medieval Seafield Tower , and it’s now a scheduled monument. Built of local red sandstone, it was believed to have been 5 stories high, constructed in an L shape design , with walls 5ft thick , and had a vaulted basement.
It was originally the residence of the Moultray of Seafield family, then passed through other ownerships, until the Methven family abandoned it in the early 18th century - and it’s just fallen to rack and ruin since then.
However, it’s still part of the history of the area, and is directly on the very picturesque Fife Coastal Path , overlooking the sea, with its own natural harbour - so you can see why that location was originally chosen.
Unfortunately, it’s in such a dangerous state of disrepair it’s fenced off , but still , it’s a challenge to your imagination.

A building that is not cared for and there seems to be very little known abut it.
Part of it collapsed last year.
The most interesting aspect is the seals offshore.
A nice walk along the coast if it has not been raining. Coastal path poorly maintained.

Ok so bit bias but I'm a costal walker.
Enjoy a walk along Seafield and on a great day you can often see the seals. First of course you will come across Seafield Tower. A lot has been said about the tower over the years with many saying it is in ruins and some going as far as to say it should be knocked down. True to words this tower has often been sectioned of.
My personal opinion is that true it is not the state it was all these years ago. But is it really fair to knock it down. It has stood the test of time for so long and has hardly bothered anyone or the surrondings. Lets leave it for future generations to enjoy or better yet let work commence to restore the tower.
Its a sight to sea.

The best things about this is the views, a possibility of getting to see a seal, the seafield picnic area apart from that it is in effect a ruin.

Walking through Fife Costal path you can see the ruins of the Tower and some seals and other animals. Relaxing.

Ok so not to get the wrong idea title of this review is called shame. But not for the reasons you would think.
As a coastal walker you can take my word that the fife coastal path is a must do walk. This is one of the reasons it pains me to say due to dangers and erosion they have sectioned and tried to cut of access to Seafield Tower. True there are alternative routes but its not quite the same. Area is great especially in the summer time for sightseeing and catching the seals.
I hope for the future and upcoming generations work can be done on this tower as it would be a shame to let this go to waste (such as Dysarts Man of the Rock).
Only time can tell.

Had a trip down to Kirkcaldy in the early afternoon to have a look at Seafield Tower, or rather what's left of it.
If you are driving, the best, and most picturesque place to park at is in the Seafield Picnic Area car park. This can be reached by following the promenade west, passing Morrison's, and taking your first left along Kinghorn Road, then first left again down Seafield Road, and first right off here to the car park.
Alternatively, if walking, take the little path down the side of KL Motors at the west end of the promenade, and along the seaward side of Morrison's and this will shortly link up with the car park.
The car park is a picturesque spot with lovely sea views, a beach, and a large picnic area. Please note though that it is only open within the hours of 06:30 and 22:00 hrs.
From the car park head to the Coastal Path which is via a metal turnstile type kissing gate. The walk from here to Seafield Tower is over relatively flat ground. Lovely sea views to your left, and perched up high on the right hand side are rows of houses.
It is approximately three-quarters of a mile's walk to Seafield Tower, so all in, around one and a half miles return.
Not a great deal left to see of this 16th century tower house today, just ruins, but nonetheless a fairly pleasant walk.
About 150 yards further along from Seafield Tower is an area that you are likely to see seals if your luck is in, and mine was in today!
For those wanting a little more, you can continue walking along the Coastal Path to Kinghorn if you wish.
To sum up - A pleasant walk, nice to see the ruins, I was fortunate with the weather, and a bonus seeing the seals.

Its a feature on the coastline but not much of it is left.
Nobody knows its history so its rather ancient.
Seals bask just off shore.

Park the car in the newly refurbished carpark at the back of Morrisons. You can then walk onto the beach or walk along the adjacent footpath to the tower. This is the main coastal walk to kinghorn (if you want to walk beyond the tower). At the tower there is lovely views of the Forth and Edinburgh, the tower itself is just hanging in, its more than a ruin than a tower now as a large section collapsed a few years ago, definetely no climbing on whats left of the tower. The rocks in front of the tower have common and grey seals on them and this is the main beaching point in Kirkcaldy for viewing seals. The walk itself from the carpark to the tower then back to the carpark takes about 1 hour. This is an excellent place to take your dog for a walk. The last poo bin is at the start of the main sea wall, there are none from this point on and none at the tower. The path is also good for mountain biking but gets a bit harder beyond the tower and closer to Kinghorn.
