I wish I was here to golf, but me a the wife were on a bus tour. The drive is around the golf course and dropped us off in town. A little shopping, and a quick coffee before we were off to our next destination. The course was cool to see in person, and the beach was much larger then I thought it would be. Still worth driving through, lol, even if you do not golf.

A trip to St. Andrew's to play the Old Course is a must for every golfer. It was a bit windy and cold, but did not rain. I highly recommend paying for caddies. Otherwise, you will have no clue where the bunkers, etc are, or even where the next t box or green are located. The only issue is that the driving range is nowhere near the starter for both the New and Old courses. It is at least a 1/2 mi from the Golf Academy where the range is located and the starter for the Old Course and probably 1/4 mi to the New Course (and only if you cut through the fairway of the 17th hole of the Old course). There is a shuttle bus, but it runs infrequently and doesn't start early enough in the day for early morning t times. Despite the above, the experience was worth it.

Wow what a course!!! It was everything I hoped it would be a e more!! We had caddies as well and can’t recommend that highly enough, they are so helpful with the right lines and reading the greens - they also have a great story or two - you will definitely get more out of the experience with a caddy. We git our tee time through the ballot and were extremely lucky with the weather, I definitely hope I get to play it again!!

As a life long golfer it was simply wonderful to play the Old Course. Fabulous experience. As guests of the R and A, our round of golf was followed by a drinks reception and dinner in the clubhouse. This was simply a money can't buy experience. Seeing all the lockers, the beautiful bar overlooking the first tee, and of course the dining room upstairs. I would consider myself most fortunate indeed.

Playing the New Course on sunny windy Monday was a lifetime highlight, perhaps even better than walking the Old Course which we had done the day before. I opted to play the New Course because the playing experience is similar, but the golf is less stressful because of the lower level of hype. Playing as a single with my wife walking with me I had reserved at Jubilee, but the New Course starter was able to get me on that course at a good time.

We purchased the Winter Deal that included 18 holes on the Eden, New and Old course. We had a caddie for the Old (thank you again Scottie, you were great). FYI Scottie reckons that the Castle course is one of the best in St Andrews.
Absolutely brilliant and worth every penny. We had great weather for 2 days but, as per Sod’s law, it rained cats and dogs and blew a gale for the Old Course. A shame but who cares, it was great
The restaurant overlooking the Old Course is brilliant and a must. Shower facilities etc are first class and all included in your all fee.
Staff throughout were great.
Thank you St Andres Golf.
Staying in St Andrews can be expensive. Think about this .. we stayed in the Fairmont … not actually in St Andrews and the girls spa bill alone exceeded the golf fees with food and drink their costing a second mortgage. B&B and leave the family at home next time!!

I am never disappointed visiting St.Andrews to play golf. Everyone knows the courses are world class, but then add hi-quality caddies; excellent administration team; great bars & shops. All located in a beautiful city in Scotland. This is a special, special place. Thank you St.Andrews Links.

I played the balgrove course yesterday with my son and granddaughter we were tod the first 2 holes weren't there because of the open, so we started on the third hole and it was like playing in a ploughed field with half decent greens, it should have been free to play let alone charge me £30 the young lad on the starter box said we could go round as many times as we wanted, but after 7 holes we had enough my granddaughter said I thought it would be much better and she only 7years old ,we come to St.Andrews twice a year and it's the worst I've seen the courses even the eden course looks shocking.

St. Andrews Links is a place like no other! We were drawn there, of course, by the 600 year history, the Swilcan Bridge, and all the golf legends (including Mary, Queen of Scots) who have played the famous Old Course. The majesty and beauty of the Old Course and the buildings surrounding the 18th was awe-inspiring.
What we didn't expect was a magical golf-land, with 7 courses to accommodate all levels of play. We didn't expect £40 greens fees (for us that was about $44 per person) on the Strathyrum 18 hole course, which was designed for beginners (hubby can play, the rest of us not-so-well) and is utterly beautiful. We surely didn't expect to just book a tee time a week before we arrived and have rental clubs waiting for us (even lefties) at check in. That course was so forgiving, it was a blast to play!
We didn't realize that St. Andrews Links is common land owned by the town of St. Andrews. What that means is that the public can walk down the designated paths around the course, and cross over the 1st/18th fairways on a little road that bisects the property. Dogs, apparently are welcome, too, as folks playing our course brought their well-behaved pets onto the tees and down the fairways! The people who work at the pro-shops, the gift shops, and give the walking tours were so kind, informed, and gracious. What a surprise! The place was built for the commoner and it still has that friendly vibe.
We just happened to be going to St. Andrews for a wedding at the University and never dared to dream that we would be able to play golf at St. Andrews Links! We also booked their 1/18/17 hole walking tour, which we found on their website. The gentleman who guided us shared some excellent insider stories about famous golfers' experiences on those specific holes. We also then had the opportunity to have our photo taken on the Swilcan Bridge! So awesome.
The beauty of this area is unparalleled. The town is absolutely charming, the delicious food and the course view from 18 at Rusacks (the hotel next to the 18th hole) are must-do experiences. Even if you don't golf, go walk the "road hole" path. You can witness some expert amateur golfing by those lucky and talented enough to play the Old Course, while breathing in fresh North Sea air. An unexpected sidebar trip of a lifetime. Wow.

I wish we played. The golf museum was not as exciting as the one now in St. Augustine, FL. The town is fun to walk. Buy your souvenirs at the giant golf store in town; less pricy than the one in the museum or golf club.

I'm planning a short stay in St Andrews for my son's birthday (50) would love to try out a couple of the courses using the three day pass ticket offer. My son has an official handicap, but I have let mine expire as no longer a full time member of a club, due to work commitments. still play in all the office organised golf days. Do I need to have a handicap to play on the courses other than the old course.

I played three of the courses in August 2021 and the only one requiring a handicap certificate was the Old Course.

Is it worth driving to and checking it out? Will have my family with me so just a plain old site visit; no golf.

Yes, if you are a golfer and like the history, it is well worth the drive. There is also a great cathedral ruins there so much for the family to do as well.

Hi, I have a Sunday planned for St Andrews. I'd like to get the obligatory photo on the Swilcan bridge. We are arriving late Saturday and staying overnight in St Andrews. There appears to be a lot of tours to St Andrews. Just wondering what time the buses generally arrive so I can beat the other tourists for my photo

They arrive all day long. I didn't see a crowd of people along the road next to the bridge when I was there.

Hello, we would like to play the putting course. How do you arrange that? Tickets in advance? How much are tickets? Where would one park the car?
Thank you,
Judy

Hi Judy. If you're referring to the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club aka 'The Himalayas' then that's not actually a facility the Links manages. However, if you search for the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club online you'll find all the information you require.
My partner and I will be visiting at the end of May 2019 and I'd like to know if we can walk the Old Course? Will there be admission?

Paul, you may even walk The Old Course every other day of the week, as there are public pathways through the golf courses. You'll just have to be mindful of golfers and flying balls if you're strolling on days other than Sunday for The Old Course. (The New Course, Jubilee, and Eden Course are open every day of the week.) If you go walking on Mon-Sat, be sure to stop and see Mike at the food and beverage truck parked near the 10th Tee; he has the best steak pies in the world!

Gracias!

Tour the course on your own for free every Sunday, go to their website to see how much golfing costs or call the pro shop. I'm sure a # is on website.
