Perfect rainy day (or any day) activity

I always visit here when in St. Andrews. It’s bigger than the last time I was here so there’s a bit more breathing room but it’s maintained that tardis magic of nooks and catacombs! The glorious variety and selection of books aside, it is such a welcoming place. A good downpour outside kept us indoors for a while. One of the many friendly members of staff offered tea and coffee (with refills if required) whilst we sat by a fire and had a very enjoyable chat with others equally seeking shelter. Take time to sit and relax and enjoy the peace of being surrounded by books and reading an unplanned find. This place is wonderful.

Jack was amazing!! I wanted to purchase a copy of A Child's Garden of Verses while in Edinburgh. Although Jack knew there was a copy, it wasn't to be found. He spent quite some time looking and found it on another shelf where someone had misplaced it. I treally appreciated his efforts. He was so nice.

The best book shop in St Andrews no question. Incredible selection, ambiance, and very nice staff! If you strike up a conversation, they might even offer a complementary pot of tea.

More signed, first edition books of any bookstore. Helpful staff. Great store to find a good read, one by a local author, or a one of a kind gift. A bookstore for book nerds.

Calling All Book Lovers!

Tucked away off the main drag, this is a hidden gem. If you're an avid reader, you'll love this place. Books are literally everywhere! And ALL kinds. They also have random sofas and stools scattered throughout if you need to take a seat while you get lost in a book. I could have spent hours here, but I was on a time crunch. Oh and it's dog friendly.

Book lovers’ heaven

Down a little alleyway, away from the maddening crowd, I glance up at an unassuming sign, fail to notice its’ name and entered a book lovers’ heaven.
Every book imaginable, the offer of coffee whilst I browsed, the comfy sofa for children to sit and fall in love with reading. I find most if not all the writings by an author, not just their famous ones. I ask for a recommendation and the staff are helpful, knowledgable and introduce titles that surprise and delight me.
There is a little shelf of books wrapped in brown paper by forgotten or unknown authors - you’re given a short blurb and nothing else - like a blind date, incidentally that is what it’s called - the blind date shelf. You decide whether to pick a book and go on that date and or walk past and head towards the familiar.
Loaded with an armful of books and a happy child, I leave with a heavy heart, wanting to spend more time browsing and discovering.
As I was leaving, I remembered to look up again and note the name of the place “Topping & Company”, so that my child and I may return again and again.

Loved this bookstore!

This was our first experience at a Toppings bookstore. We loved it! It was clean, tidy, and all the staff were very friendly. I was served a pot of coffee and a cookie while my son shopped. The whole experience was wonderful.
