Had a nice wee jaunt around here with the family on Saturday afternoon. We managed to find a decent parking space but it was very busy - I suspect in the summer that it’ll be rammed.
The walk itself was just over 2km long and easily manageable with children. The nicely surfaced path follows the full circumference of the loch, with a few connecting paths diverging off to housing estates and the main town. Some lovely views en route - quite nice having a bit of nature dropped in the middle of a very urban city and suburb.
There was a Crazy Golf course about a quarter of the way round - it looked like a cracking set-up and well worth a go I reckon. I think there was a bit of Foot Golf on the go as well.
We ended our jaunt in the play park but to be brutally honest, it’s seen better days and is in need of a major refurbishment. The overflowing bins at the car park were also a bit off putting - not ideal that they were right next to the food vans. We did stop off at the Ice-Cream van and although the food was really nice, £4 for a small tub, in my eyes, is pretty extortionate.
Room for improvement but definitely worth a visit, particularly with the nice weather starting to make an appearance.

Hogganfield Loch Park in Glasgow, once a well-maintained and family-friendly destination, has faced challenges in recent times. While it still offers ample parking facilities, including charging stations for electric cars, the park's overall maintenance and cleanliness have declined. The grass is often uncut, and visible signs of vandalism contribute to a less inviting atmosphere.
Despite these issues, the park retains some of its original charm, with Hogganfield Loch serving as the main attraction for both birdwatching and leisurely walks. The loch is home to a variety of wetland birds, such as Whooper swans, Canada geese, and ducks, providing a serene setting for nature enthusiasts.
Hogganfield Loch Park's Golf-It centre remains open, offering amenities like crazy golf, football golf, racquetball, and cycle hire. The centre also includes a café, toilets, picnic areas, and a visitor centre that provides information on local wildlife and history.
With improved maintenance and a renewed focus on cleanliness, Hogganfield Loch Park has the potential to return to its former glory, attracting families and nature lovers alike to enjoy its natural beauty and recreational activities.

Used to be good. But as the years roll on has been neglected by the city council. Kids play park got half the stuff missing and full of glass. Grass in cut and messy. I understand wilding. But also need clean cut for family's to have fun with children. I used to go as a child live close and would rather drive to any other part of the seven lochs. Just like most parks in the north and east end of Glasgow get neglected. And wonder why they have a youth problem.

Managed to get a parking place even though it was quite busy. Council needs to fill in some major potholes in the car park. Had a good old saunter round the loch but sad to see the golf course is being redeveloped for houses. As always loads of birds

Popped along on Sunday afternoon to find it was relatively quiet. Once out of the car we found out why there were swarms of some type of fly everywhere. A wee shower of rain soon put paid to the invasion thankfully. Quite a few prints of paintings have been hung on the fence adjacent to the golf course area. They are of birds and wildlife that you can see in the area and make quite a difference on a dull day. Another enjoyable stroll with most walkers keeping the 2m apart. Coffee van and ice cream van were reasonably well supported.

Probably 55 years since i was last here. A place of my childhood. Sunday outings with mum and dad on the 101 trolleybus from Rutherglen Rd.South Side.. Had a few rowing boat trips with dad. No boats now,all gone. That apart, much remains the same. There is a busy van selling hot rolls teas coffees etc on right side as you enter. Really great place for a scenic walk. A circular tour round the loch and your back in the car park. Perfect for the elderly or people with mobility challenges . Easy flat paths circumnavigate the loch which today was teeming with birdlife. Never seen so many swans in a long time. Please check photos as they tell the real story. Well worth a visit.

If you're a fan of litter this is the park for you! Its covered in trash! You can even contribute, buy cakes, coffees etc from the lovely food van and once you've finished join all the other people who have thrown their litter on the ground. Be sure to ignore
the plentiful bins along the way. If you're short of cash and can't afford anything from the food wagon why not bring some trash from elsewhere? Simply empty it from your car before leaving. Activities at the park include trolley curling or dog muck dodging. Whilst the dog muck dodging is free you'll have to provide your own trolley. So lucky to have this gem in the East end of Glasgow.

There is a pleasant tarmac path all the way around the loch, wide enough for walkers and cyclists. It would be a good place to take young children who are learning to cycle. But watch out for loose children and dogs if you are on a bike.
The circuit (around 2 kilometres, or 1.6 miles) only takes 10 minutes, but allow 15-20 if you have young children on a bike. Probably allow around 45-50 minutes on foot.
There are lots of waterfowl - swans, coots, moorhen, ducks a-plenty and of course the ubiquitous seagulls. I even saw a couple of cormorants.
Some interesting water-loving plants can be seen, and it's a shame the information boards around the path have been vandalised.
There is a small play area for under-fives and an adventure area for older children with a metal cable climbing frame etc.
There is a also a small kiosk cafe selling predictable fare next to the golf clubhouse; but I didn't sample it. If you just want ice-cream, try the van.
OK, the park is a bit naff, and calling it a "Nature reserve" is just about credible! - well almost, but it's one of lots of Glasgow parks that are free and make for a pleasant visit on a sunny day. And of course, being Scotland, that means you can visit every day of the year, it's always sunny, hardly ever rains.

Visited for a wee stroll before storm Ellen arrived to find it quite busy. We managed to get the last parking place (you can no longer park on the road as they were putting in cycle lanes on the road) and had a pleasant stroll. Both the ice cream van and coffee shoo were open but no customers

Can anyone recommend a dog friendly cafe close by to go into for lunch?
