Amazing cafe - had delicious afternoon tea - I actually had my wedding reception here in 2015 and they didn’t fail me then either - excellent service and lovely attentive staff - attention to details also - defo five stars x

We held our wedding at the house in November 2023. The communication from Bridget and the events team was absolutely fantastic, and everything was laid out clearly and concisely. All enquiries we had, no matter how big or small were addressed quickly and made us feel like everything was under control, keeping us reassured and stress-free.
When we visited the house, we knew it was the right setting for our wedding, however, we never anticipated how perfect it would be on the day. Both the gardens and interior were absolutely stunning, with no need for any additional decoration, such as flowers or wedding arches, which really helped as we were on a tight budget. Many of our guests commented on how beautiful and unique the place was which made us very pleased with our decision to have our wedding day there.
On the morning of the event, the banqueting manager, Amanda greeted me at the house and instantly put my mind at rest, quickly getting me set up and storing gifts for our wedding party, setting up music on the sound system, showing me to the oval room and providing me with a whisky to calm the nerves. There was always a staff member at hand when I needed anything throughout the day, who were very calm and willing to help with a smile, which really helped me feel welcome and valued. Many of our guests commented during the day and afterwards at how cordial the staff were, helping them with enquiries and were amazed when they went to the bar that the bar staff remembered their drinks order, that care and attention to detail is priceless.
The wedding breakfast was incredible, we had a three-course Honeyman menu with a custom gluten-free and vegan option for those with dietary requirements. Everything was really well made, looked and tasted amazing, so much so, some of our guests were telling us they felt obliged to lick the plates afterwards as the sauce on the chicken dish was so good! One of our evening guests, who is a bit of a foodie, enjoyed the hot rolls so much, he had three!
I was very surprised at the price to hire the venue for our wedding, it was very affordable and helped a lot with our overall budget. We had initially visited some venues in Edinburgh that quoted twice the price and more that I would argue don't even come close to the standard and quality we got from House for an Art Lover.
I would highly recommend the venue to anyone looking for something a bit different and aiming to wow their guests. The whole experience has been an absolute delight with no stress at all and many of our friends and family have been raving since, about what a fantastic place we found to host our wedding day.
I would like to thank Bridget, Amanda and the rest of the House for an Art Lover team for providing such a perfect setting for our day and for your care and attention to detail. There's not a single thing I could find fault with in the service you provided, it almost makes me feel a little sad that it's all over now as I enjoyed the experience so much. We will definitely be visiting the house periodically to enjoy the cafe, art classes and space, and hopefully, we will be able to experience someone else's wedding day there one day to re-live the joy we had on ours.

We had our wedding day and reception at the House for an Art Lover on 28th October and it was just the most perfect day. We were so well looked after by Bridget our wedding planner and Amanda our master of ceremonies. All the staff at the house for an art lover were tremendous and they couldn’t have done enough for us in preparation for the day and on our special day. Thinking of getting married? We would highly recommend this wonderful venue. It was just fabulous from beginning to end. Thanks so much.

I’ve been here many times for different occasions and social events. It amazes me that every time I’m in the café/restaurant the service gets worse and worse. Rude, slow and clearly badly managed as not one member of staff seems to be doing their job properly. It lets the whole establishment down and in this day and age shocking service just isn’t acceptable. My friend who hasn’t been there before called it a very strange place and it’s safe to say we will not be returning to the café again. It’s also too expensive for what your get, there should be a serious look into changing this section of the house for the better.

Many thanks for your review highlighting the disappointing experience in the Art Lovers Café.
We admit that sometimes we don’t always get it right, and this seems to be one of those occasions; however, to describe the service as ‘shocking’ seems a little over the top – maybe disappointing or lacking would have been a better description.
I am sure you will be following the news highlighting the pressures that businesses are under with costs increasing at a rate we have never experienced. We are trying hard not to pass them on fully – however, to describe us as expensive is so far off the mark – our average spend is comparable to well-known high street coffee chains where you queue for food, find your seat and clear your table - we on the other hand offer full table service.
Finally, I’m not too sure what your friend means by ‘strange’ - again, another confusing adjective, but we will endeavor to keep going because there are some people who think we do it well.

My wife and I got married at this venue on the 14th of September 2023. I can't say enough how amazing the day was, not a single thing went wrong and the staff were so happy and helpful.
The whole way through the planning process from the start of 2022, Emily and then Bridget have been on hand to guide us through the process. They have been so quick at responding to any questions we had and they really made us feel at ease every step of the way. They set out a timeline so you know what will happen and when it will happen and we felt assured the entire time.
On the day itself the entire staff team were incredible. Small touches such as a free drink for myself and the grooms party was a lovely touch, Amanda the MC was so helpful and helped me feel at ease both on the day and when we met her a few days before. Amanda, and then later he colleague Farooq, helped the day run smoothly and kept things going and did their jobs so professionally. It was really nice that after the ceremony my wife and I got five minutes to have a drink and a canape before the photos as by the time we came back they were all gone.
The food was delicious and went down well with the majority of people. It was a fully vegan wedding and the chef was happy to take on some of our suggestions in the build up to the day.
Again the Mc's did an amazing job at night and out evening guests felt welcome to the wedding. Farooq was with us until the very end and was really patient when we were still running about trying to get stuff after 1 AM and our taxi was waiting, he also helped us out to the car.
All of our external supplies were amazing too. Caroline Lambie the humanist, Emma Donaldson Photographer, Chris Connelly the Pianist, Christopher Kelly the videographer, Joe and Steph from Bygone photo booth, Mamas Wee Bakery for the cake, The Jiggers who were out Ceilidh band, our florist 'Flowers by Lilly' and Go2eventhire for the games setup.
We had the most amazing day and would definitely recommend thie house to other couples looking for a wedding venue.

Worth the short trip outside of the city centre; the easiest way to reach is by bus. It built in a park after design sketches made by Mackintosh and his wife for an international competition in 1902; the remarkable story of how these sketches were turned into a building is well explained in the audiotour included in the entrance price. The interior celebrates the love of the newly weds (it is still used for weddings, so closed sometimes, check the website). There is a wonderful contrast between the dark entrance hall and dinner room and the light music room, with the unique style of the Mackintoshes: a wall onto a terrace dissolving in light by the many windows, the sweeping vertical lines, and also the stained glass and gesso panels, beautifully reconstructed (no originals).Surrounded by a small park, with a walled garden and art centre with exhibition space. It has a café and small shop.

Beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh house.
Such a nice experience to wander through the different rooms.
The house was being set out for a wedding the day we visited which showed a much different layout.

House for an Art Lover is an exceptional wedding venue. A beautiful canvas on which you can paint your special day. The staff are helpful, professional, calm, efficient and kind. The food (quality and quantity) is excellent and was served by a delightful team. We were very fortunate to be able to use the best florist in the UK (Simon Lycett) and an exceptional photographer (Simon Lees) which made the venue look incredible and be captured thus on film. Looking back while it is fresh in our memory, we would not change one minute of our day. The only thing to watch is that on a Rangers home match day, the carpark becomes quite busy so access can be tricky - but definitely only a minor niggle. We would highly recommend HFAAL for a charming, intimate, and beautiful ceremony.

This is, amazingly, a newish house built to Macintosh's design. The details are nevertheless immaculately crafted and iconically Macintosh. Good signage and informative audio guide are helpfully explanatory.
There is a cafe that was crowded ( obviously a place to go). We had cakes and tea- delicious and reasonable, but we had to be outside on the terrace because of the dog. This is pleasant place but needs the weather to play ball.
We did find (as we left) that there was a dog friendly cafe on the other side of the carpark which is part of a hospice and welcomes visitors.
The house and the hospice are set in parkland so plenty of places to walk the dog.

Arranged lunch for 27 guests inc 4 children for our Golden Wedding Anniversary .
Prior discussion with Venue as to our requirements.
We were able to put up decorations the evening before and had final discussion with Sarah, the Cafe Manager re table settings, drinks reception and timings.
Venue, Food and Service was of a very high standard.
Staff were efficient and smiling throughout.
Had photographer for family shots outside and then throughout the drinks reception.
Would highly recommend House for an Art Lover.
Special thanks to Sarah who was so very professional and helpful throughout.

Check their website as it does weddings also and the exhibition changes its opening times upto a week at a time. The cafe has separate opening times and is open to the public more frequent.

Sorry I can answer your question. I was leading a tour, which means the bus driver got us there, with the help of a local who served as a private guide. I bet it's really beautiful there now that summer has arrived. Enjoy!

I don't believe you can, but, as the prior commenter suggested, there's no need to. Happily, it is sufficiently off the beaten path not to attract floods of visitors. But it is a good idea to call ahead to see if the House is open since it often hosts events. Their phone number: 0141 353 4770.
