Lovely little museum in Glasgow.
A time capsule of the last century with lots of information both of the area at the time and also its resident who lived there for many years. Gave you the feeling that you had stepped into the ladies house and were expecting her to return any minute when in the rooms upstairs, felt we were prying into her life.
Well worth a visit.

Such an interesting way to learn about life in bygone Glasgow. I'm not sure how you would find it if you don't have much English, though. The cafe is a coffee machine and a few snacks, but very good. Staff are lovely and friendly.

I went because I am a member of National Trust and it was free. In fact, it is definitely worth paying. The place is fascinating and it gives you a good insight into the history of Glasgow and its people. The people working there are extraordinary – they know so much and are more than happy to answer question after question. My partner and I think this might well be the highlight of our short stay in Glasgow. Get there early as it is tiny and it gets cramped. There are toilets and a coffee vending machine.

A fantastic look into a past life and a house that’s been lovingly restored and maintained by the National Trust. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We visited The Tenement house in Glasgow during Aug24. The house has a fascinating history and shows a snippet of what life was like for what I would see as HMO's of the middle class in or around 1892. There is a wonderful model on display showing a number of layouts and how the occupants lived, including how people utilized and converted small cupboards into bedrooms, in some case for an additional income. There is a small NT book for sale that is worth buying and reading a little later. Interestingly, I felt the footprint of the rooms were fairly large if compared to some London flats . Either as a paying visitor or NT free entry, if in the area, we would highly recommend. The staff were polite, friendly and also knowledgeable and there is a cafe and 2 WC's on site.

Very informative and excellent opportunity to see what life was like in Scotland during the early to mid 20th century. The docent onsite answered all of our questions and was well-informed. There are 4 rooms that are restored as they were when the owner last lived there. It’s definitely a time capsule worth experiencing! We walked to it from our guest house in the West End and it took about 20 minutes.

I was told about this house by a family member and got off the hop on, hop off bus to walk up the hill to see for myself.
Just amazing. The back story is incredible, the mother and daughter who lived there from 1911 hardly changed a thing, only acquiring electric in 1960! It brought back so many of my childhood memories of my Glaswegian grandma (who moved away from her hometown) with chenille tablecloths, coal fires, beds in the recess that my own mum had told me about.
Its story can be read on the very informative displays but an in house guide can answer any questions too. The letters written by Agnes Toward’s daughter, also Agnes and owner of the house until she died in 1975, are an insight to the lives and how they made their money.
Life was hard but simple and I’d recommend everyone visit the house when in Glasgow.

Always nice when you visit a town, to also include a place where normal people lived, not as formal as a museum, but like it was just left behind. The tenement is and feels authentic and the staff is super nice explaining the different things. Makes one appreciate all the progress we are benefiting from now.

Is there parking nearby?

With difficulty as with any city centre location. My advice would be to use the Subway & walk. You might find some parking spaces but it will be a lottery & I’m not sure what the restrictions are.

Hi,
I'm not sure about that.
I would advise joining Visit Scotland as a Member.
You can then visit lots of venues throughout the year.
It is well worth the membership fee.
Other places nearby are Pollock House, Holmwood, Gardens.

The house is open from 1st March to 31st October between 1pm and 5pm, with the last admission being at 4.30pm. Last summer, however, during July and August, they were open from 11am on Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure if they will be doing the same this year, though.
