Ah, the Charing Cross Mansions! Really, there isn’t a whole lot to say about this lovely Victorian-era structure that hasn’t been said already. It is eye-catching – I’ll give it that. As I walked along Sauchiehall Street I couldn’t help but fix my gaze upon these mansions. Their French-Renaissance style sticks out like a sore thumb – in a good way – amongst all of the modern businesses that surround it. The red sandstone construction, concomitant with the figures that “sit” on it, hints at Glasgow’s architectural history. It is indeed a contrast to the contemporary landscape and is one that’s accentuated by the fact the M8 cuts through this area like a knife.
Unfortunately, there’s no plaque or history write-up on site that I was able to see; so, if you want context to the Charing Cross Mansions you’ll have to read up on them before or after you visit. In that respect, it was only after my quick visit that I learned the building was constructed between 1889 and 1891 and is considered the “first and possibly grandest of all the red sandstone tenements” in Glasgow. In the current day, the mansions function as apartments on the upper level while the lower level is dominated by a Starbucks, Subway and Driftwood (how’s that for a culture clash of sorts?). Based on a few of the earlier reviews, I get the sense that it is possible to rent and/or stay with somebody here, but they are, for the most part, private residences.
In short, the Charing Cross Mansions are very attractive to look at; however, I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit them unless you’ve got a major interest in architecture. Instead, consider them within the context of a quick stop as you walk along Sauchiehall Street en route to, or coming back from, the West End.

Across the road from the 'wonky' Cameron Memorial Fountain are these splendid examples of Glasgow architecture, yes they maybe beside a busy road junction but deserve to be admired, look up!

This place is listed on Trip Advisor as an attraction and not an apartment and maybe that needs to change because as a building, there's nothing really architecturally significant about it. Designed by John James Burnet in a kind of Baroque Style and built in 1891. It was for a time the city's first and grandest red sandstone tenement. Now it's just in a busy area or traffic and not a lot of foot traffic.
There's a few shops around here. With the general decline of Sauchiehall Street, you'd get better shopping, eating and drinking in Buchanan and Argyle Street

このSauchihall通りは、色合いがカラフルで、散策に楽しい通りです。特に琥珀色の建物が美しく、このマンションもそのひとつです。これ以外にも琥珀色の建物があるので、是非どうぞ

What a fantastic apartment. In a fantastic location close to all amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thankyou callum for looking after us. You made us feel very welcome in your city. We will certainly book her again. Can't wait to return. We'll done jo , jac, ang and gail for organising a great hen weekend for me.

Booked for a girlie weekend. Perfectly situated for the pubs, bars and food places of Glasgow. Apartments have some lovely feature , spacious accommodation. We were well looked after by Callum the host.

I stayed here with a group of friends and had an amazing time. It's an ideal location for pubs, restaurants and shopping. Owner is amazing and was so helpful and still waited for us despite a 3 hour flight delay. It is up 3 flights of stairs so it's worth keeping in mind but if I can manage it, anyone can!
Rooms were huge, views amazing. Would definitely stay again.

we stayed at Calums apartment last weekend. its a fabulous, very spacious apartment, slept 9 of us. we had a 3 hour flight delay and Calum kept in touch with us throughout. he was so helpful and cooperative. no request was too much trouble. the apartment is right in the centre of Glasgow and everything was easily accessible. what a beautiful city. we were sad to leave. we will definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone and will book again, when we return. thanks again calum for a brilliant weekend

I am old enough to remember Charing Cross before a lot of the buildings were pulled down to build the motorway which cuts through the city like a scar.
Why the City fathers of the past thought it would be a good idea to pull down houses to make way for cars I will never understand ( although pulling down slums for decent housing was a better idea)
However they did leave this remnant of Glasgow's Victorian past on Charing Cross. About 37 years ago I did manage to see inside one which was, at that time, very nice and I would have considered it posh.
