‪Living on the north side of the Clyde, the south side feels like another country, so I was happy to meet friends there a few days ago. After a short drive I found parking close to the main entrance, by the big pond. The pond itself is not exactly impressive - the concrete sculptures in gthe middle are well coated with gull dropping , and a familiar scum lies on the surface, Familiar because I see the same in my regular haunts - Kelvingrove and Victoria Parks.
Away from the entrance however, what a delight.Varied cultivated and wooded areas, shaded and open pathways with
a fine view point south at the flag mast. The planned in viewpoints over looking the city are magic, and so few people.
I'll be back.‬

‪Today, i visited a quiet corner of the rambling space that is Glasgow's Queens Park. On the edge of the park where Langside Rd runs along its border near Shawlands Cross there is a beautiful rose garden,a place of peace and tranquility. There are stone plaques on the ground dedicated to scottish poets but i only gave them a cursory glance as my attention was taken wholly by the beautiful roses on display. There are also some leafy glades nearby which on a hot day like today offered welcome shade. This place is free for you to wander and enjoy. It is accessible by many bus services from the city centre. No38 being the most frequent. Minutes walk away is the old boating pond with its interesting water bird life. The whole area is well worth a visit on a good weather day.‬

‪Visited this park in the snow and it was really lovely.
Always a nice hustle and bustle around this area. Made even more pretty by the weather. ‬

‪This park has been the most familiar to me in my lifetime along with the largely destroyed Richmond Park. Sunday haunt for walks with mum and dad as a child in late 1950's. In those days, the park was ablaze with the colour of floral display now sadly missing in the general malaise and downturn. Main entrance is at the end of Victoria Rd. The gates being a perfect reminder of the parks victorian origins. There is a lovely loop walk along a tree lined Avenue up a wide set of steps to the upper level of the park then after a short walk turning right to the viewing platform and flagpole of the area christened Hill 60, once a regular haunt of courting couples. The view is spectacular over glasgow's south side. A gentle descent will take you to the old boating pond. No boats remain but its an interesting area now supporting a variety of bird life especially around the picturesque island area. From there a short walk takes you back in a circle to point if origin passing the now ruined bandstand area, a gathering area now for noisy skateboarders and spray paint graffiti artists.
There are other areas worthy of note but sadly closed at the moment for obvious reasons. E.G. The pitch and putt mini golf course and the Victorian glass houses and tearoom.
The park is well served by public transport . Services 4,4a, 5 and 6 all pass the Victoria rd gate. Well worth a visit, 2-3 hours being adequate.‬

‪I have been visiting the park on and off for over 50 years. It’s a large area with a good amount of free street parking around it’s borders (mostly in residential areas so often quite busy). There are good walks on well-paved walkways as well as opportunities to explore wooded areas thru more pathways (watch out for the mud though).

It’s quite hilly in parts so be prepared for that, but the views from the flagpole in the centre are great and I managed to navigate pushing my youngest grandson in his pram so it’s not too steep.

At the Shawlands end there is a large pond with lots of wildlife, while across the park there is a great garden area. There are several kids playgrounds thru the park as well as facilities for tennis and lawn bowls.

Or just take a leisurely walk thru it. Well worth a visit. ‬

‪Not been here much since my childhood days, but it’s a nice place to go while we’re in partial lockdown. It’s a large sprawling English style park with many paved pathways and lots of less well paved walking paths through wooded areas. The park has a lake, greenhouse and a rose garden, the latter dedicated to Scottish poets. Nice place for some walking. The lake area is often populated with ducks and swans and right now, it's the season for younglings. Plenty of Swans and their cygnets to see when I was there.‬

‪A sprawling park on the Southside of Glasgow. Again a shadow of its heyday due to lack of funds for maintenance but in these terrible days still a pleasant place to walk through. It borders many areas, pollokshaws, shawlands, langside etc. The jewel is the boating pond with its vast array of Swans and waterbirds. A famous area for lovers trysts was in the past an area known as hill 60 with a mighty flagpole atop. There is a good pitch and putt course and i hope the botanics and reptile house with its quaint little cafe at the Langside end will one day open again but we live in an age of uncertainty.
My friend and i played a two hour low key blues concert today adjacent to the old bandstand area which the city fathers in their infinite wisdom replaced with a concrete stepped amphitheatre now used by noisy adolescent skateboarders 😡
The Victoria Rd entrance is the best spot to start a walk through this historic Glasgow landmark. I have known this place since approx 1954. 66 years ago. The changes have been many but never for the better . Change nearly always means nowadays that you get less than you had before. Those that bring about the changes have the audacity to call it progress.🤔‬

‪It's a handy park. We took bread for the ducks, swans and cygnets. There was a lot of pigeons too,
The childrens play park was very popular. Lots of children as it's spring break . Wee trampolines, and a good selection of equipment for smaller children. Nice walk and some fresh air. Put in a couple of hours, they ran some steam off .
Too many dogs off lead , racing ahead of their owners.‬
