Whoever permitted the old Rothiemurchas Coffee Shop to close and open as The Barn? The new establishment is worse than a school canteen with absolutely no atmosphere, severely overpriced food and drink and I will never return - they have the monopoly so can charge what they like for very mediocre food, drinks and atmosphere. Dreadful.

Rothiemarchus Farm shop
My family snd I purchased many things in this shop, I then went to use the toilet , a staff member run in after me saying it’s for disabled people only, (not all disabilities are visible), a new sign and some staff training required asap, I was embarrassed and was told to go across the car park to the other building, the shop was busy so I did not want to discuss my disability, so I left embarrassed, I heard the two woman staff laughing at the counter, not a good experience and I hope the owner sees this and helps with some customer training.

Brilliant time pony trekking!! I did the intermediate hack and Denise the instructor was great, friendly and very welcoming. We did lots of fantastic canters in the beautiful woodland. Only a small group and very well organised. Highly recommend.

The vistas really change as you bike into this estate - amazing woodlands and great views everywhere with a large well maintained trail network great for gravel or mtb - nothing challenging going just pretty trails

We stopped by rothiemurchus quickly to go on the Highland Coo Safari. It was nice and short and we just went around walking and in our car to see all the different coos. The guide was very knowledgeable on the coos and feeding them was a very fun way to interact and see them up close. Overall, it was a good photo op and informative experience that wasn’t too long or short.

The walk is amazing and we saw lots of amazing sightings and the horse riding was brilliant. The staff at the stable were very kind, helpful and friendly.

Booked the experienced hack, we travel over from Ballater to do this every year and I love it so much.
Friendly welcome from the 3 girls on the yard. Assigned our horses and told us a little bit about them.
The hacking is amazing, it’s so beautiful and quiet, dunno how the girl leading the hack found her way as you are very much off the main trails.
My horse was perfect, had fun on the canters but really well behaved. So comfy and just lovely.
Would 100% recommend.

Visited the falconry place - it was excellent. Johnny and his Dad are really knowledgable and the show was funny and really interesting. Really reasonably priced also. Highly recommended.

Awful experience with the Strathspey Highland Ponies trekking. The lady who owns and runs the pony trekking was the rudest activities host I’ve ever encountered. She was extremely annoyed at my punctuality (the location of the meeting point is not easy to find for the non locals). She showed her annoyance by rolling her eyes and flailing her arms at us from across the barn when we arrived. She repeated multiple times that we were late. She snapped at me when I tried to help my child find the correct helmet saying “you can’t just grab things from the shelf”. I then sternly said to her “I am just trying to be helpful because I can see that you are extremely agitated at us, but it’s my daughter’s birthday and we are here. I do appreciate if you just get on with it”. One of my two daughters told me that the lady snapped at her a few times during the trail trek telling her that she wasn’t doing it right. After the trek, the lady came to me once more and continued to tell me how late I was and that I should’ve received this (pointing to a copy of the policy on her phone). I told her I wasn’t disputing this with her, that we showed up at 15:26 for a 15:30 reservation, and I did my best to get there on time. What I didn’t say was that the ride had not began and they were actually tending to a precious little girl who was having a terrifying time getting on her pony and eventually declined to continue with the adventure. I can only suspect the lady’s temper and attitude wasn’t exactly comforting and encouraging to the young girl. My arrival time had absolutely no effect on the trekking.
I had done this very same pony trek last year with her, and while the business wasn’t a guest-centered experience, we enjoyed the ponies and view. We had a great experience with many activities at Rothiemurchus. It’s a shame this particular adventure was so awful. We will not return to the pony trekking which is contracted out to a private individual and her business Strathspey Highland Ponies.
I had done this very same pony trek last year with her, and while the business wasn’t a guest-centered experience, we enjoyed the ponies and view. We had a great experience with many activities at Rothiemurchus. It’s a shame this particular adventure was so awful. You and your dog(s) can enjoy one of the most important areas in the U.K. for many 'at risk' species of birds and animals, by using the wonderful network of maintained paths and keeping your dog (s) under close control. We have made special fenced areas (with bins for poo bags) next to parking areas - Loch an Eilein, Inverdruie and Coylumbridge where dogs can range freely off lead, you can throw balls etc.
Dogs love being here, we love dogs - so we want to make it possible for wildlife to thrive undisturbed while you enjoy the most stunning places which are often the most sensitive, with your dog(s). Please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and we appreciate you taking the time to post this question. Thank you and we hope you enjoy your visit to Rothiemurchus.

Are you able to drive around the estate? Or is it a case of parking up and walking? I am disabled and can't walk long distances.

There are public roads running through the estate, you can get close to and appreciate the beauty of Loch morlich from the car, the fish farm and reindeer centre are only short walks from the car park, depending on your disability I’m sure the staff would let you drive down to the quad bikes if you were able to do that. I found all of the staff members I encountered super helpful and friendly.

Thank you -the easiest way to see them is booking online our Ranger led Hairy Coo Safari or you can ring 01479 812345 between 9.30 and 5.30 for our friendly advisors to book you At the moment pure bred Highland calves are being born daily and just get more and more adorable. You do see our Highland Cattle on the Quad Trek but the calving cows and calves are in a field where the stock manager can keep easily keep an eye on them and you can spend more time with them on the Safari.

Can you book feeding the deer without going on full safari tour ? ,my husband and I have enjoyed full safari previously, but mum and dad may not be fit for full tour , but would love to see the deer , Sam

Sorry, Not really - but you could learn to Fly Fish there. It's a great sport, the Fishery is a very beautiful, peaceful place and they have excellent fly fishing instructors. Best way to wait for an Osprey.

Thank you, yes there are 50+ Highland Cattle in the fields here, but they can be un-cooperative, some distance from the road and not reliably easy to see. The Rothiemurchus Ranger led Hairy Coo and Safari tours enable you to be sure of getting close.

In Your Element at the Pavilion at inverdruie has great bikes to hire. It's beside the Woodland Car Park, the other side of the road from Rothiemurchus Centre. If you ring the Centre with your height they can book a bike for you.

Thank you for this helpful question. At the moment it depends on the weather - its been a long, challenging, unusual winter with almost unheard of constant snow,thaw, freeze, thaw which has prevented the planned November path maintenance and not helped the paths. We try to invite a local group of electric wheelchair users to give a us a report on the paths every year. We welcome all feedback - especially suggestions on how we can improve the UX.
