What an adventure. London to Fort William rtn. We had 2 en suite rooms (bunks) and the overall experience was fantastic. It’s a one off travelling on a sleeper train and this was by far the best. Very clean and comfortable and the staff were excellent. We all slept well and the motion of the train allowed us all at least 7 hours. The remaining 2 hours was spent looking at the incredible highlands as we approached FW. No negative comments at all and we would recommend to any family with an adventurous spirit.

While the food and drinks remained excellent, the experience was slightly marred by an unexpected HR meeting in the club cabin. It was somewhat awkward to have staff conducting professional training in the shared social space.
Despite this minor interruption, the return journey maintained the train’s high standards. The 7 am breakfast - a hearty sausage roll - was filling and delicious. The comfortable bed and train’s rhythmic movement ensured another excellent night’s sleep.

We booked this trip 6 months earlier, really excited to go overnight from London to Aberdeen Scotland and paid for premium tickets booking two shared cabin sleepers over Xmas/New Year. Could not fault the arrangements and friendly staff who were always happy to attend your needs. Whilst we enjoyed the travel journey and experience, the food was appalling and sub standard for the price. Some Main Menu items were not even available and compared to other train journeys the food preparation I would compare to ready eat frozen food portions you simply reheat in the microwave oven and buy from a supermarket. Caledonian Catering team need a serious lesson here, no thanks I would not recommend. Really disappointed overall.

Every year we visit family in Dundee. This time we decided to make it an adventure for our three kids and go by sleeper train.
We traveled on the Caladonian Sleeper about nine years ago, and loved it, so had been excitedly waiting for our journey.
Sadly, our journey this time was nothing like we'd experienced in the past.
Our oldest son took a top bunk, which promptly folded up, trapping him between the carriage wall and the bed.
We pressed the assistance button for help, which took several attempts. Overall it took an hour to fix the issue - we were advised that the bed was not locked in place.
Fortunately, my son was only left with a bruised foot and toes. It could have been a lot worse.
Staff knew he'd been hurt, but no one returned to file an accident report.
Then, at midnight, an alarm went off, causing the train to grind to a halt. After about half an hour, maintenance returned to our room for a second time to say there was a fault with our window lock, yet another dangerous element to our trip.
None of us slept soundly for the rest of the night.
The next morning, I heard from customer care, who were incredibly helpful and apologetic. Their service and kindness cannot be faulted.
We were refunded for our outbound trip but felt nervous for the return.
Upon our return staff were exceptional.
But sadly, the cabins let our experience down again.
I'm Deaf so we need interconnecting rooms to make sure at least one parent hears the kids over the noise of the train should there be any problems.
Our interconnecting door should have remained locked open, but the lock wouldn't work and the door kept slamming shut which caused an unrestful night.
Alongside this, our closest toilet was broken, which meant we had to go down a long corridor into another carriage. I understand these things happen, but it was especially inconvenient when traveling with children.
I've raised these further issues with Caladonian Sleeper but have yet to receive a response.
These trains were redesigned and launched in 2019. So I find it surprising that there's so many issues with them just 5 years later, especially when the issues we encountered include safety concerns.

We have used the sleeper 3 times now and love the quirky adventure.
We use the club room which is a bunk bed room. It is seriously small so be warned but guess what we love it. If one of you cannot get up the steep steps to the top bunk this is not for you. The room has a toilet and shower which ran cold but it a shower on a train.
We hit the buffet car and the service was spot on.
Breakfast was delivered right on time and hit the spot.
Great staff.
Great night sleep and we will do it again.

I was massively disappointed having enjoyed the sleeper a few times in the 80s and 90s.
There was nothing special or exciting about the trip to Glasgow, unlike before when there were complimentary washbags, morning tea served in china, etc.
Above all, the cramped space in the cabin made it very hard to manage. It was difficult to know the rules about the dining car as there was nobody around to help, although the staff were nice when you actually caught one.
Overall though, it was awful I'm afraid.

I love a train and recently did the train to Truro and back and loved it. Had high hopes for the £325 club solo from Glasgow to London last night.
It was the worse thing I’ve ever done. The train manager meeting you were very nice and they give you keys to your cabin. In my case a snug bunk bed with a small sink.
I then make my way to the bar car where the food and drink choice was about us dull as the Resturant manager who didn’t want to be there, didn’t have any manors and barely did his job.
Time for bed. 12.30 and we are on the way to Carlisle, you get in and turn the lights off but yet the light switch button is there right above your head illuminating the room like an annoying to light but worse. Then the smell started of sewage that I guess eventually you start to live beyond seeps out with no way to escape it.
The room is now boiling hot with no way to adjust it.
2,3,4am your trying your hardest to sleep but the train driver keeps sounding the horn at what seems like every opportunity throught out the night and the bumps and shunts wake you up on a regularly basis. Every time you drift off, bang! You have to start again. And again. And again.
Then at 640am you’re awaken early as you have got to london ahead of schedule and rather than being able to leisurely wake up and leave before 730. No the train guard and subsequent noise outside, is a kin to, at a Resturant, where they all start putting the chairs up around you whilst your on desert, for you to leave.
Would not recommend! It was horrendous, over priced and the service way below what you would expect and hope for.
This was no orient express, this was more like a commuter train with a bed and for all that money I’m now in london with no sleep and wishing I had just got a hotel and caught a plane. Would of been far cheaper and more comfortable

We booked the "Caledonian Double En-suite". The room itself was great, shower had enough space and hot water. Before the train ride we went to the launge in London Euston, which was hard to find (its at the train tracks).
In the morning we had breakfast (vegan pancackes) which was great.
Overall train experience was great.
But, couple hours after leaving the train we realized that we forgot a small backpack in the room.
We contacted the train operator, they said they can't do anything. That we have to contact the lost luggage office at the train station. They said they have not seen any item. Confused, as if the train operator cleaned th train, they must have find something. It was a private room. We decided to check the next day.
Next day they said that we should check in Glasgow station. Even though the train terminated in Edinburgh. As we have planed to go to Glasgow anyhow, this was "fine".
Once we arrived in Glasgow, the first station didn't know anything. The second station (Central) said that they receive lost luggage from Edinburgh once a week, so for us meant in 4 days. Lucky again, we planed to be in Glasgow that day as well.
Next time we went they said that they didn't receive the shipment yet, that its late and will be next day.
Next day they said that no backpack matching description was present.
At that point we left the country without it, as we had plane tickets and plans.
Absolutely horrible customer support. That they can't give you back an item that was forgotten in the most expensive private room!

This was a bucket list trip and what a dissapointment. Boarding delayed due to engine trouble .For the cost and the late departure time we would have expected this to have been sorted earlier in the day .The lounge was full to bursting with people sitting on the floor and tired children .Also no real apology for the issue. Staff abrupt and seemed as fed up as we were .Then to the room .We expected compact and it certainly was but it was clean and bed comfy but sadly little sleep due to noise and bumpy journey .I was terrified at a couple of points in the journey as thought we were going to derail ! Breakfast in room poor quality .Arrived hungry ,tired and wishing we hadn't wasted nearly 500 pounds .

Really wanted to enjoy this and I'm really not a fussy customer but the seats really are incredibly uncomfortable. The lights are really quite bright all through the night. Seated passengers seem to be treated as a bit of a hinderence. When we got on I was told to call the bell and ask for any drinks/food whenever we wanted. When I did so a couple of hours after departure I was told that they were too busy at that time and would get my drinks when they could. There was then a problem with the boiler and it ended up taking about 90 minutes to get a cup of tea. The seated coach is really quite cheap which I would say is the only real positive. I would have been really gutted if I had paid much more than the £50.

Hi, Donna. I've just read your review of a recent journey with Caledonian Sleeper and noted that you were unable to find any USB charging points in your cabin. On the older, Mark 3 trains, there's a panel containing four USB sockets on the wall above the window, next to the bottle(s) of drinking water and the alarm handle.
There are also 240 Volt, 3-Pin power sockets available in the Lounge Car.

I was hoping to take the sleeper train back to London from either Edinburgh or Glasgow before my flight out the following day at 11 am. However, reading some of these reviews, I'm a bit concerned about the timeliness of the train. Does anyone know how often the train is more than 30 min late to London on the Lowland routes? I believe I would be fine if it arrives within an hour of its scheduled time, but much more than that and I risk missing my flight. Thoughts?

We took the one from Glasgow to London Euston last June 2019 and arrived more than 3 hours late. They gave us a full refund but we still ran like mad upon arrival at Euston as we had a tour booked for 10:30am that we would miss. It was quite stressful. We also missed the breakfast that we ordered on the sleeper.

Which direction can enjoy a better view? Northbound train or Southbound train? Planning to take the sleeper next year.

Not much of a view either way from your berth as the windows are tinted (this on the older trains as I haven't yet been on one of the new ones). The nights are long here in the winter so best take a train to Edinburgh then a day train to Inverness. The journey time is 3.5 hours which leaves plenty of time to enjoy the scenery which, from Perth to Inverness is stunning.

Hi, Mariony. In all of the years that I've been travelling on the London to Edinburgh Sleeper train, there's always been room in the Lounge Car for passengers travelling Standard Class, even at busy times. Who told you that only First Class customers could access the Lounge Car? Normally after an hour or so people start drifting back to their cabins, freeing up seats for others to occupy Regards, Simon (S. KEMP)

Hello Simon. I went to the Lounge car soon after dropping our bags in the room. Once I got in, I was asked by one of the staff members (wearing a uniform) blocked my path and asked what class I was booked in. When I told him that I was in the standard room, he said "Club room guests only"
I reviewed the website and it states "Guests staying in a Club Room or Caledonian Double will receive priority access to the Club Car" -- this was sad as I had only wanted to order a drink to take back to our room.

I looked on their website and it says that the two together railcard offers 34per cent discount on seats only
