Me and My partner travelled from Aberdeen to medieval weekend we had a lovely time was well worth the travelling Amy was telling us about the castle and the cathedral was very knowledgeable would definitely go again if we where in the area the castle ruins were great as well been able to get right to the top of the tower.

We zijn hier onverwachts naar toe gereden vanaf Inverness. Er was op deze dag, een marktje bij georganiseerd, met traditie uit die tijd. Iedereen liep verkleed in de tijd van toen, met uitbeelden van beroepen ed Zeer leuk opgezet. En iedereen speelde zijn rol. Ook de ruïne is leuk om daar door heen en op te gaan.

Visited many times, have always really enjoyed the peaceful environs. It’s our local Historic Scotland place and as members we’d be foolish to not attend. The Loch is particularly interesting. Went today to the medieval weekend - really good with very engaging stands and a good atmosphere. What’s a shame is that almost total lack of advertisement by Historic Scotland meant that attendance was very low, with ‘rival events’ being cited as the reason. Not even a sign on the road to advertise the event - we only found out because we visited Brodie Castle the day before and happened to get chatting to the chap who worked there. Better advertising would have given a bigger reward for the excellent participants!

A hidden gem. Well worth a visit. Donald and Richard the site attendants were very knowledgable. If you think its expensive .... become a member.

Very rich in history and rather important too. A fantastic tower with great views. Lovely location near Elgin. Well worth a visit and the admission fee.

Se siete nei pressi di Elgin una visita breve e rilassante a Spynie Palace sarà senz'altro utile per collegare la storia della Cattedrale di Elgin a questo sito. In sé non ha molto di spettacolare, eccetto una bella veduta del paesaggio dalla cima del palazzo e qualche dettaglio architettonico rimasto, ma serve a mettere in correlazione i due siti in quanto per circa 500 anni, questo palazzo fu la residenza dei potenti vescovi di Moray, coloro che riuscirono ad erigere la Cattedrale di Elgin.
La Torre di David si chiama così perché fu voluta dal vescovo David Stewart che diede nuovo slancio al castello trasformandolo di fatto in una residenza vescovile fortificata che ospitò diversi regnanti scozzesi ed anche Maria Stuarda.
Come tante chiese finì in rovina quando il cristianesimo cadde sotto i colpi ecclesiastici della chiesa presbiteriana, nel 1689.
L'ingresso è gratuito con l'Historic Explorer Pass, se doveste pagare un biglietto fatevi due conti.

Well kept ruin, ok for a few photographs and a climb up the tower for countryside views. Don’t think it’s worth £6 entry fee.

The ruins are easily reached from the car park and are visible for a while before that. They have enough there to make them interesting and the guided audio tour and info boards dotted around add to that. Very peaceful place to visit and well worth the effort.

Interesting historical site. Great views from the top of the tower. Warden was helpfull and chatty gave us so much information about the history of the site.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. I suggest you contact Historic Scotland / Historic Environment Scotland who own Spynie Palace.
I would be extremely surprised if dogs were not allowed on a lead. The palace is a well-maintained ruin, surrounded with mown grass. The only thing you might miss out on would be the upstairs areas in the two towers, unless your dog was very good at climbing stairs in confined spaces.
