I've lived here 11 years now, I like this quiet wee village, but it bears a little explanation to make the most of it for visitors.
We're not a big tourist centre, so Tea Rooms may change. There is a new one opening soon, I understand, but Jamesfield Garden Centre & Cafe on the outskirts of the village is lovely, with a nice panoramic view (and Aylesbury Ducks) and lovely cakes.
The little museum (open in season & run by volunteers) is well worth a visit and PACKED with fascinating stuff. They hold a key for the Pictish Tower, which is well worth the climb for the lovely aerial view of the village. There is a wee local shop in Main street which is licenced.
I'd suggest Abernethy is nice for its walks, up Castle Law for magnificent views and lots of paths around the village. We've got a bowling green and a couple of wee gardens too.
I made a website for the village, and put stacks of info there, but I don't know if I can share it here, but I called it myabernethy.info

One of the best pubs in Scotland if not the UK is here, The Crees Inn, it won pub of the year awards decades ago and is now back on true form with new owners - it’s brilliant. The tea room is top notch even for cooked breakfasts, glorious signposted walks, also visit the historic tower with a key at the tea room and the fascinating museum not forgetting taking a moment for prayer and reflection at The Church. The local shop has useful provisions.
This village has everything one could possibly dream of a true and charming Scottish village.

This is a village I have passed through on many occasions without stopping, usually when I'm heading towards Perth. Today I made a special point of turning up and visiting the old part of the village and suffice to say I'm glad I did. There is so much to miss by not knowing some of this.
The main attraction of the village is undoubtedly the 'Round Tower' which it is possible to climb to the top of. The key can be borrowed from the adjacent 'Berryfield Tearoom' but if you intend visiting in the winter don't make the mistake I did and go on a Monday or a Tuesday as the tearoom is closed!
During the summer months when the museum is open they also hold a key to the 'Round Tower'.
The Abernethy Churchyard is worth a look at when visiting the 'Round Tower'.
The 'Mercat Cross' can be found in the old part of the village and I would definitely recommend a stroll along this section to have a look at the many colourful traditional houses.
Nurse Peattie's garden, down near the main thoroughfare is also worth a visit. The garden is small but beautifully kept and all decorated for the Christmas season when I visited.
For the more adventurous and for those that enjoy walking there are Glen walks.
Have included a selection of photographs to give one an idea of what to expect during a visit.

Abernethy can be confused with the Abernethy in the Highlands. This is a modest village wioth not many reasons to stop on your way to or from Cupar.

We had a thoroughly pleasant visit to Abernethy culminating in a visit to Berryfield Tearoom - absolutely lovely. A warm, friendly welcome from the lady. owner at the next table and a chat about the future of the tearoom that is going into the hands of new owners. Let's hope the tearoom keeps its magic. For the record, the quality of the food and drinks is excellent AND the prices are reasonable and appropriate. --- We were amazed how much history there is attached to Abernethy and most of is brought to life by her locally run Abernethy museum. If you're in the area, it's well worth fitting in half a day to Abernethy.

Abernethy Round Tower
Situated by the churchyard in the old heart of the village, the tower is a fabulous example of this type of building. The Pictish stone is the obvious piece of antiquity, but for me the gnarled old door to the tower and the lockable collar on the wall give a real feeling of history.
The village centre also has a timeless feel to it and if you took away the parked cars you are conscious of how little the place has probably changed over the centuries. The churchyard is also worth a lazy wander to browse at the gravestones.
We were unable to go up the tower, or even have a coffee as the tearoom is closed on a Tuesday. Trust us to pick the wrong day!

I completed my 2nd teacher training placement at Abernethy PS and twice visited the village to get to know the area. The church and grounds are lovely and you can visit the tower on occasion. There is a lovely tea room and suitable local shops and facilities. A place you would love to live in! Midsummer without the murder!

How far is Abernethy from Livingston. W. L.?

My name is Abernathy, but I'm sure it was originally Abernethy. I would like to know if any Abernethys live in the village. I would love to meet them. I'm going on a Princess cruise next August and would like to meet some "relatives" after the tour ends in Southampton. Any information you could send would be wonderful. Thank.
