Day trip from Glasgow to Robbies drams in Ayr,picked up a pre order and another couple of single malts.The staff were courteous and knowledgeable,nothing too much trouble for these guys.You were made to feel welcome and your custom appreciated,i even met the great man himself,Robbie,greeted with a warm handshake,he even told me where the two best chippies were for some much needed fish n chips for my lunch.Once funds permit,i will be back through again to take a longer look at all the great malts and spirits and no doubt make a few purchases,Jimmy Graham.

Twice recently I have tried to make a purchase in this shop. Twice I have been shouted at for not wearing a mask. Twice I have explained I have a disability which makes me exempt from wearing a mask and twice I have been sneered at dismissively.
Twice I have left without buying anything and I wont be back. They might know a lot about whisky but they know nothing about customer service.

Visited today and what these guys don’t know about whisky isn’t worth knowing.
Delightfully helpful, taking time to explain, sample and advise but without being overbearing.
Such a huge selection, without doubt the best place to buy whisky when in the area.
No pressure to buy, but it’s difficult not to!!
Simply brilliant.

Went to Robbie's on Saturday, 200 miles round trip to collect a click and collect bottle I had ordered earlier. Great selection of bottles, very helpful staff, I enquired about my bottle to collect and Robin himself said ah "Mr Briggs it's a while since you ordered it" and knew exactly what it was and who I was. I had a dram and chatted to Robin for probably an hour about all things whisky. This was a Saturday and the shop was busy but Robin managed to greet all his regulars and make time for new customers whilst maintaining our conversation. I left with my collected bottle and three other opportunity purchases, happy to leave an enterprising independant retailer who sticks to RRP, has a wonderful lifetime of experience and a big enough personality to manage the ship, keep the staff involved and most importantly ensure his customers return. Shopping these days could be done sat in front of a key board, but lets hope that independant retailers selling great whiskies continue to provide a lot more than just a bottle and a receipt. The guy complaining about taking photographs in one of the "terrible" reviews needs to go home look in the mirror and ask himself whether it may have been polite and show some respect and ask permission before starting to take pictures in someone else's property, how would he feel if someone visited his home and started photographing all the doors and windows, maybe a potential thief? they come in all shapes and sizes in the world of rare whisky. Thank you Robin I shall return, there are few enough genuine independant retailers, it was a pleasure to spend time and money with you.

We called in Robbie’s Drams yesterday to find one of the best selections of malt whiskies I’ve seen for a while. The staff were very helpful, knowledgable and were happy to give advice. My only gripe was that they didn’t have a big selection of blends and to be more specific older blends, which I was hoping to find. I know the whisky snobs like their Malts but I hoping to find some blends that the supermarkets don’t sell like Cutty Sark, Vat 69, White Horse or Black n White etc. The only chance I get to buy these is through specialists like this and they didn’t have any? I realise you will be reading this thinking why don’t you buy online but I’m old school I like to buy from shops!!
Let’s have more blends Robbie, while in the shop a woman came in for a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label and they didn’t have any!

Friends, I offer STRONG counter-opinion to Sharryayr's review. Specifically, I made arrangements in advance for my visit to Robbie's and when there enjoyed what was in effect a private tasting, this with another small group of U.S. travelers. The sign prohibiting photos was posted tastefully throughout the store, but when I asked if I might take pictures with the focus on Robbie and/or the general setting of the shop, I was comfortably encouraged ... no problem!
Our visit to Robbie's Drams was one of a tour of stops with the focus on local shops whose owner-operators participate as judges for the national Scotch awards. This is a don't-miss stop, and of course Robbie's stories are a treat even before you buy your limit of take-home treats.
With respect, the rant from Sharryayr seems a report more of an embarrassing moment (pictures are often the info we collect for deferred purchases - not in the best interest of the shop owner).
Our group has traveled to Scotland twice now, and Robbie's is a stable stop for any trip we plan as well as a stop we regularly recommend to friends.
I highly recommend Robbie's Drams!

Whilst taking a trip down memory lane in my childhood hometown of Ayr, I visited Robbies Drams. I was having such an amazing holiday until we entered this establishment!
I brought my neighbour with me who had travelled from southern England to purchase some bottles of Scotch. We were very excited to be going as I also planned on purchasing a few select bottles as gifts for all of my family and friends in USA. As I was unsure of which specific bottles to buy, I took a pic and emailed my Aunt in order that she could choose. At this point, I was startled as a voice shouted across the room “NO PHOTOS!!! YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THE BOTTLES!!!”I was shocked and embarrassed in front of other customers as his tone was not only aggressive but condescending. He then pointed out an extremely small sign which said no photos allowed ... I apologised but he continued to make a scene despite my efforts to explain what I was doing. Again, he shouted at me “TELL THEM TO LOOK AT THE WEBSITE!!’ I was gobsmacked at the way he was speaking to me in front everyone. I asked him if he was the manager and he replied.... (Drumroll) “IM NOT TELLING YOU!!” At this point I just couldn’t believe what was happening. I turned to a female colleague of his who was stationed at the check out and asked if she would be so kind as to provide me with his name. The poor woman looked visibly scared of him and whispered ‘Robbie Russell’ at which point he yelled.. “I’m the OWNER”!!
I am a huge advocate of using small local businesses but this guy is a nasty piece of work and I would never set foot in, nor recommend his business to anyone. After doing my homework it appears that the reason behind his attitude was the £106 Shipping charge to USA that he would be missing out on. Overseas buyers beware that this guy is out to squeeze every penny out of you.
Please do not let this put you off visiting Ayrshire as it is a great place to go sightseeing and people are very welcoming and friendly.. sadly not on this occasion. We left the shop empty handed and still in shock!! Great way to lose business and custom.

I visited Robbie's earlier this year while visiting UWS with my daughter and was impressed with the knowledgeable staff and great service. Once our daughter decided to attend uni in Ayr, my husband and I went back for more Scotch (when in Rome...). Again, the staff was most helpful in assisting us with our purchase and sharing their expertise. Another "must do" when visiting. Cheers!

As a frequent visitor and purchaser from these premises I cannot praise it enough, not only for the huge selection of whiskies and other drinks, but also for the large and seemingly unboundless amounts of knowledge that Robin and Anna, the proprietors, and the staff, have. Need to find out something about the whisky you are buying, or need a recommendation for a gift to a whisky lover, just ask as your questions will be answered in spades!!
What I particularly love is that there is something for everyone. There's really good malt whisky for as little as £40 right up to collectors bottles for several thousands. Everything from bottles for the complete novice to bottles for experienced collectors and partakers.
Always remember that there may well be samples of bottles you try so as you can make sure it's the one you want.
Robbies not only supplies whisky but has a huge array of gins (of which Anna is most definitely expert) and of many other spirits.
If you are in Ayr this shop is absolutely worth a visit.

If you want a comprehensive trip through the best of what Scotch whisky has to offer, Robbies is the place. Robin is extremely knowledgeable, personable and welcoming. Don't pass an opportunity to visit when in Ayr.
