We took advantage of their services for the excursion to the island of Staffa and we were satisfied. Of course, the service is very basic, arrival at the port, sailing, transport to Staffa with some information about the fauna and the island, docking in Staffa, they leave you an hour for the visit of the island and the cave and then they pick you up for the return to Tobermory (lunch not included).
Along the way we also saw the dolphins (very closely) and seals (a little further away).
Overall the excursion is worth the time and money required, but you should always keep in mind that the sea can be rough (even a lot in some stretches) and that the weather varies suddenly, so better be well equipped with warm and waterproof clothing.

We took the half day Wildlife Adventure tour with Sealife Mull (through Staffa Tours). The staff were lovely, especially our guide, Jimmy, who was both entertaining and full of knowledge. We saw dolphins (who swam and jumped around the bow), eagles, porpoise, seals, and a whole host of seabirds. I would thoroughly recommend.

Had the most amazing trip from Tobermory to Staffa. Staff are amazing, polite, helpful and knowledgeable of the area and its wildlife. Fingal's cave was amazing, Staffa is stunning, as was the wildlife. Perfect day trip. Would highly recommend Staffa Tour operators

We did the nature tour that goes from Tobermory to Staffa then Lunga (the main puffin island). About 1.5 hours out and 1.5 back, 7 hours total. Puffins were almost completely gone on Aug 1, but we saw a few. Weather was perfect for the latter half of the day but it can get chilly on the boat if you’re on the outdoor deck, so layer up. Crew was friendly and pointed out what to do and what to see, but was otherwise nicely in the background. Even my 16 yr old son loved it. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I enjoyed this tour. The staff were all lovely and really helpful. We got to see seals, puffins and dolphins. The puffins are so cute! Wear hiking boots - The stairs up the cliff are steep, please keep that in mind, and the terrain to climb up the hill to see the puffin nests is muddy and uneven. Well worth the journey though. There are two places to eat right next to dock.
My only concern is the short amount of time (around one hour) on island. It takes a bit to get to puffins and not much time left for Fingal’s Cave.

We took the boat from Tobermory as we wanted to see the northern coastline of Mull (longer and more expensive trip). Not sure we’d do that again. The boat was very comfortable and not very busy when we went so plenty of room. There’s a toilet on board - tight quarters. The staff were polite and helpful without being over the top.
We had two hours on Lunga to watch puffins - amazing and a real highlight. This gave us time to eat our packed lunch while surrounded by some of 13000 puffins. Took a million photos. To get onto the island the boats pick up a floating pontoon and navigate it to the shore and you do need to walk 5 mins over boulders - some slippery. The boat staff are happy to help. To get to the puffins there a steep uphill portion not too long but could be tricky for some.
Then on to Staffa and Fingal’s Cave. There’s a concrete pier so easier to get off the boat. The path round into the cave has a handrail. Anyone with exposure issues may have trouble with it.
We saw bottlenose and commonwealth dolphins and a sea eagle tracked the boat for a while. Loads of different sea birds.

Memorable trip with the family from Fionnphort to Staffa to see Fingal’s cave. We had an awesome trip with Staffa Tours and we’re so lucky to see bottle nosed dolphins, seals and a few puffins. An experience I’ll never forget! The tour staff were so lovely and knowledgeable, would definitely recommend to others.

We took the trip from Fionnphort which went to Staffa and then Iona. It is about 30min out to Staffa. You get great views of Fingal’s Cave from the boat and they rotate it to help everyone see. You land and are given about an hour.
If you want to walk round to the cave it involves some steps and then a walk around the rocks with a handrail on the rocks - too scary for me! To see the puffins you have to go up a reasonable number of steps (which are a mix of stone and metal) and quite uneven and then walk 500m over undulating ground. I give this detail because it was a surprise to me and some people may struggle.
Lovely to see the puffins and very helpful Scottish Trust person to offer information. You see individual puffins quite close and can see more out on the sea. He said there are 500 burrows for puffins. Years ago I went to Lunga and apparently there are 6,500 burrows there so if you really want to see a mass of puffins then go to Lunga but note this is a longer trip (about 6 hours I think versus about 2.5 for this one).
The boat crew had heard there was a pod of dolphins and on the way back took us to the area and gave us a good length of time watching an amazing display from the 4 dolphins - quite magical.
The boat stood at Iona. We got off here (most people do) and then you can get the pedestrian ferry back for about £2. Fantastic experiences- thoroughly recommend.

Amazing tour! The ability to visit with so many puffins as well as all of the other sea birds makes the trip worth it. While you are on the boat for a long time it truly is worth every minute. Do not miss out on this incredible experience.

We (late 60's in good shape) took the Staffa and the Treshnish Isles tour from Tobermory in June. Please note the departure point is not where the ferry boats dock, but on the other end of town (a few blocks away). We were staying in Tobermory; so, this was walkable from our B&B. It was unusually cold in June, but you'll need bundled up with waterproof winter coat and hat regardless of the season. Waterproof hiking boots are a must. While I wish there was more commentary from the boat crew, one of the crew came around just as the journey began to talk with folks individually. Just be prepared with some questions you may have of things not covered on the brochure. I admit, since we were the first ones approached, I thought it was just a quick hello before addressing the entire group, but others engaged the crew more and had a great conversation. Of the islands themselves, they are like most of the Western Isles, beautiful and rugged. We went to the island of Staffa first to see Fingal's Cave. You walk along the rocky coastline for a short distance. I held on the rail, but others didn't.) You just go inside the entrance of the cave and take pictures of it. We were on the island about an hour. Then, we were off to Lunga to see the puffins, who didn't disappoint. On Lunga, you must walk up the side of the rocky shoreline to get to the first level where you can see puffins coming in and out of their burrows within 8-10 feet. They are magical. You can climb higher, which we did along the cliff, to see even more spectacular views with more puffins and their cousins, the razorbills. We observed several razorbills have some type of argument about 4 feet from us (everyone is arguing these days lol). They were barking at each other which was quite amusing. The puffins, meanwhile, just went about their business. We did see families with young children whom we were afraid would fall off the cliff. One came quite close to the edge which was frightening to view. It's not a place for the pre-school crowd in our opinion, even if you're able to get them up there. There are no rails at all and no soft places to land. We were glad to leave the grandkids at home.

Bonjour,
Je souhaite faire cette excursion avec une amie en début juin 2024. J'ai 2 questions: quel est le point de départ de cette activité? Est-ce que l'activité se déroule en français? Merci à l'avance :)

I am very interested in taking this tour when I come to Mull next year. The question I have is that I am terribly petrified of heights. Do you think I would be able to get off of the boat to just be right there on the rocks at the bottom? And when you drop people off does the boat stay right there or does it back up out of the way for other people? If I got out there and decided I couldn't do it would you come back for me?

Merci, merci, merci.

Is full access to the Fingal's Cave still closed or did it reopen this summer? We are going in a couple of weeks.
كُتب بتاريخ 11 سبتمبر 2019
Not sure - we were not able to freely walk in as there was some repair work going on...but you could (at your own risk!) get round it!

Hi,
I'm concerned about parking near the Oban ferry terminal for the Three Isles Tour. We need to be at the terminal by 9:30 on Wednesday, Sept.11th. There's only parking for 30 spaces at the adjacent Scotrail car park. Is parking there an issue on a weekday morning in September? Is street parking nearby easy to find if the car park is full, and does it cost anything?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Carolyn

Hello,
It should be easy to find street parking on a weekday morning. Simply look for designated parking spaces, painted in white. Since the tour takes the whole day, I recommend parking at Rockfield Centre, a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry terminal. They have more spaces, is 24/7 parking, and parking for the whole day is only 5 pounds. Google "Rockfield Centre Oban" and you'll find it.
Best,
Ivonna

How strenuous is this trip? I've got a couple that are 60+ that are dying to go but I wanted to know how much walking and climbing is involved. Thanks!

Hi, There were a group of elderly ladies +60 on our tour and if you are fairly fit it is ok. On Lunga you walk along a jetty to get to shore and the crew are there to help you on and off. However on the beach it’s unsteady on the foot as there is rocks and Peebles to get around. There is a makeshift path but we only discovered it half way along the beach. At the end of the beach there is a more suitable path that takes you up onto the area where you would watch the puffins. It is relatively steep but as I said the group of ladies made it up no problem. You can stop half way up for a breather as there are opportunities to stop. There are other areas on the island you can walk to. One note of consideration we did this walk when it was dry underfoot - its a natural path up to see the puffins so do not know what it would be like wet.
If you need a walking aid then this might trip might not be you. Hope this help.

Hi, I want to take 2 kids to Staffa island on Wednesday 17th April 2019. Are the puffins on the island yet? Do we get out of the boat and see them? Thanks so much.

What's the trek like if I was to drive from Oban to Fionnphort? Thinking of doing the 3 hour tour vs the 10 hour tour from Oban. Anyone have any advice on this? Thanks!
كُتب بتاريخ 3 فبراير 2019
Any drive is worth it as the view changes dramatically at every turn.
