‪Fantastic location with spectacular views of this peninsula. Comfortable accommodation with plenty of room.
Dog friendly and a great enclosed big garden so always knew he was safe.
Well equipped kitchen, full size fridge and freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Would benefit from a handrail for those of us a little unsteady on our legs as both doors into the house have steps.
Lovely bottle of bubbly to welcome us - would happily forfeit this though for some tea & coffee instead as we arrived late and did not think to bring this with us.
We had a great holiday, this was a great base to visit lots of what Skye has to offer, and we are seriously thinking of booking again for 2024.‬

‪Parked at Trumpan Church and did the almost 9 mile return walk to Waternish Lighthouse. After the first mile the going was hard as the track was rutted, mucky and had water pooling. If you have gaiters - wear them and walking poles were a great help. It wasn't a great day with intermittent heavy showers, nevertheless there was great views to the Outer Hebridies and the ferries coming and going between the islands. I followed the track to the ruined township at Unish and then crossed boggy ground to the lighthouse. Lots of seabirds and seals to be seen from the lighthouse. I met a total of 7 people, in 3 groups, on the entire walk. If you like solitude, open skies and remoteness - this is the walk for you. Its hard to credit that some sites on Skye are so over-run by tourists when you experience this wonderful walk through history seeing tors, brochs and evidence of the Clearances. Despite the inclement weather and conditions underfoot, its one of those glorious days that will stay in the memory when I'm commuting to work, stuck at airports etc - just magical.‬

‪I had a few hours left of my Skye visit and had time to see one more thing. I chose to see Waternish. There is just something about it besides the outstanding beauty. I will be back.‬

‪We had a really lovely walk to the point. It was a long walk but very easy. There was a lot to see and the views were stunning across to The Outer Hebrides. ‬

‪Schöne aber langatmige Wanderung zum Waternish Point durch mehrere Schafsherden. Der letzte Streckenabschnitt war bei uns nicht als Wanderweg zu erkennen, so dass wir einfach mitten über die Weiden mussten :) ‬

‪We recently stayed a week at the rowantree cottage in waternish, lock bay, isle of Skye ...took 10.5 hour drive to reach it ...but the drive was so worth it once you get into Scotland its beauty all the way...once you cross the Skye bridge onto isle of Skye it like entering into the wardrobe on the lion the witch and the wardrobe..you literally feel you have entered a magical realm....the whole island is just a sight to behold...we eventually found our little cottage in waternish just off a single track road approx 7 miles long..but about 20-30 miles from the bridge....the whole week was a whirlwind of amazing sights, walks, different kinds of weather in the same day...we ventured into Portree the capital of you like...lovely little harbour town with little chip shops and cafes aimed at the middle classes ...we seen a lot of gap year students milling around in Portree and lots of tourists with smiles on there faces ...the whole island just re-energises your soul its beauty is second to none...our little cottage "the rowantree cottage in waternish was very bespoke and cosy...great for couples we were a party of 4 and our dog Tyler....it had great amenities a quaint little log fire and some pitched roof bedrooms with a large wooden ladder leading to the 2 bedrooms upstairs....the views from the conservatory were amazing they looked down over the lock bay and the sun set behind the mountains which surrounded the loch...we noticed while down on the slipway just before you get to the stein inn there were boat trips available for wildlife spotting..just a lovely isolated good for the soul pleasant and very beautiful place to be...if you need to push that reset button this is the place for you👍😊🍻💪🏻👏🏻.......‬

‪This is a review for the Waternish Loop walk starting at the former Waternish House, now 'The Gatehouse' about 1/2 mile North of Stein. there is limited parking to the side of the track for possibly 3-4 cars.
The walk starts immediately opposite this house and follows a stone track across a cattle grid. To the left of the grid is a 'Pedestrians only' sign.
Follow this track for approx 1 1/2 miles towards the hamlet of Gillen, ignoring the 2 turnings to the right leading into the forest.
As you approach Gillen the track splits in 2 - to the left, and through a metal gate is Gillen. Ignoring the left turn carry straight on for approx. 1/4 mile; this will bring you to a viewpoint overlooking Score bay, and its beach. Across the bay is Uig, and Linicro, directly in front of you are the Ascrib Islands.
A steep descent will bring you to the beach, a good place to enjoy a picnic; in late afternoon you may be lucky enough to see seals close to shore. If you follow Score Bay around the headland there are at least 2 further beaches to explore.
To return simply reverse your route.
The walk I have reviewed is not strenuous or difficult except for the descent to Score Bay which is steep and will need extra care. Allow at least 3 hours.
Another return route is to follow the split to Gillen and circle round on the roads passing through Lower Halistra, and Hallin - note that these roads are narrow and single track - they can be hazardous.
Do remember at sunset in late Summer and Autumn this walk is to the East resulting in total loss of light within 20 minutes - I timed it! Essentials are camera, clothing as dictated by the weather, and perhaps a torch? Nearest hostelry The Stein Inn!
Unusual and recommended!‬
