Great museum, even the building is beautiful. Fascinating displays, especially the bog bodies and jewellery which really gets you thinking

We spent a while here on a cold Sunday afternoon, enjoying the exhibits. On the ground floor, the item that most intrigued me was the huge long boat that had been unearthed from bogs - what an amazing find!
I spent quite some time looking at the exhibition of gold artefacts, learning about how this precious metal was used over the years. Knowing a fair bit about silversmithing, it interested me quite a bit. The Treasury is also well worth a visit to see how decorative items have evolved.
Its nice to be able to visit somewhere within the City that doesn't charge an entrance fee! Do take a look.

Le trésor est tout à fait exceptionnel et tous les bijoux en or sont très bien présentés. L'entrée est gratuite.

The museum was amazing, really fascinating and such mind blowing history and ancient items that were simply priceless on display. The museum curator who brought us around was just a genius. Really clued in and more importantly had our children running to the exhibits with excitement. We learned so much. The curator charmed us all with his knowledge and we immediately planned another visit.
The Ardagh chalice is a stunning object and the history and hidden secrets reviled under microscope make it so interesting of everyone. That's just 1 object out of thousands there to be seen.
The people dressed in traditional clothing from hundreds of years ago and the knowledge they had made it extra special.

I absolutely loved this museum and would have enjoyed spending more time there. I only had an hour or two, but I could easily have spent most of the day exploring the various galleries. I love old things, and some of the artifacts were so old, it was incredible that they are still in existence! The variety of artifacts was also incredible.

Amazing collection of artifacts and other historical exhibitions. I found the bog people's remains quite interesting. I also enjoyed learning further info about the time of Brian Boru, the Vikings and Medieval Ireland.

One of the best places to pass a few hours and to engage in some culture indoors when the weather isn't the best. One visit is never enough...

Absolutely amazing!
The National Museum of Ireland is my second favorite museum ( 1st being in Cairo).
To say that this museum is impressive would be an understatement. This museum specializes in Irish and other antiquities that date from the Stone Ages.

Does anyone know about tours of this museum? We will have limited time to visit, and would like a tour to guide us to the most important exhibits in the museum.

I did not see tour guides when I was there. However, it is a small museum and you can easily pursue your own interests by following the printed museum map.

Hi, Bonnie. What would you like to know about this attraction? How much time should I allow for a visit? I know that it always depends on level of interest. How long to take a walk-through and a look? Thanks for your response.

Hello,
Could you recommend some hotels within easy walking distance of the museum. 4 - 5 star is fine.
Many thanks,
Margaret

I have read the other contributors and they are spot on. There are two O'Callaghan hotels that are fine and well located; the Alexander Hotel and the Mont Clare. Alexander is a little more expensive and better. Had I the money then a stay at the Shelbourne would be in order. It is an iconic hotel in the City and was recently the subject of a fly on the wall documentary that showed the character of the hotel and the staff. Dublin is not that big and basing yourself anywhere near the Museum will allow you access to many attractions, restaurants, and pubs.

Approximately, how long did it take to see everything in the museum? Was it around 2 hours or did it take up half a day?
Hi Carolina. Like what others have said, it all depends on your interests. I spent almost two hours here, but I did not spend much time on some exhibits that I was not interested in. If you examine each exhibit, and item and read all the material it will surely take longer. Also, there is a cafe on site, so it will take longer if you want to grab a bite to eat. I also went 30 minutes after it opened and it was still quiet enough, but as time went on, more people came which made it difficult to see some exhibits and I had to go back when they moved on.

I don't know if there is an elevator between floors. I did not look for one. There is a much to see on the first floor, but I don't know for sure how you'd get to the floor above.

Are the double beds queen size or full size(USA)? Also how is the access via stairs for less mobile folks (stair climbing limited to one flight)?
