I was part of a group tour a couple of weeks ago. This was excellent and Michael head gardener oustanding. Hence my five star review
HOWEVER, yesterday I walked up from the WIT carpark along the greenway intending to pop in for a coffee using the entrance off the greenway. There’s a small stand by thst entrance that doesn’t sell coffee nor icecream. I was told that I’d have to pay a full price entrance fee to walk up to the cafe! This is crazy stuff that defies common sense as there is a perfectly good path - closed by a locked gate - that leads to the car park and which used lead to the old cafe. And there are mo toilets accessible from the greenway either (unless you to pay an entrance fee).

A nice place to pass away a few hours. There are a few different walks of various length listed.
There are trees and shrubs from around the world, along with native species.
There is a restaurant on site catering for all tastes, along with a garden shop.

A group from Nenagh & District Flower and Garden Club visited on Sat 29 April. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Daniel Kett-Curtis, who gave us our tickets, a map and information on the layout. Daniel was most helpful in communications we had to organise the trip. We had a wonderful guided tour with the Curator Michael White who regaled us with stories about Mr Congreve and drew attention to various trees shrubs, plants and the wonderful views. There are lovely paths around the garden. We had a delicious lunch with soup/sandwiches & plenty of tea and coffee in the Stables cafe run by CaToCa. People with dietary requirements were well catered for. The staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful. The shop was very well stocked with lovely items for the home & and garden, some of which were expensive. We were thrilled to see merchandise from our local Ballyartella Woollen Mills for sale there. We would love to see more Irish made goods for sale in the shop and a larger selection of plants. . There is so much to see around the garden, a repeat visit will be necessary to take it all in. It's a truly beautiful garden. Thank you very much for a super day out and wishing you all the best in developing & preserving it for future generations.

We had an excellent training day at Mount Congreve. It was a perfect location: great room, excellent service and fabulous food.

I visited Mount Congreve as one of a party of 4. From reception in the newly reopened house the experience of the estate is better than any photos on a web page can show. The gardens are stunning and have a variety of paths, all the main paths are marked on a map that is given to all visitors on arrival, Smaller unmarked winding paths meander around the grounds.
Mount Congreve is easy to get to and has ample parking. Entry fee is fair – gift shop is very expensive.
The newly refurbished shop and café look stunning.
Unfortunately, one of our party found it difficult to eat as the staff clearly have not been trained in food safety/allergy labelling. I asked 3 employees about allergens before getting to a supervisor who informed me that an allergen book existed but that she would talk me through it as the book is too big – she concluded by saying that everything is probably cross contaminated as they were all displayed together. I was not given an allergen book or list, despite asking repeatedly. The attitude of the supervisor was a small blip on a great day. Clearer labelling and training staff how to deal with enquiries would be very welcome. Having a fierce supervisor that staff are very hesitant to approach for clarification does not make it easy to find out if it is safe to order – and given the location of the estate it is not possible to simply go somewhere else for a snack.

We were a group of nearly 30 members of the Carlow Active Retired on a day out to Waterford. We visited the wonderful Mount Congreve gardens and cafe. The staff were very helpful, the food in the cafe is wonderful and the gardens are a delight to the eye and sooth the soul. We all had a most enjoyable afternoon in Mount Congreve, with most members saying they would love to go back again.

My 3rd time to the gardens. The fist and second time visits to the gardens the entrance was beside the car park on the same level. As my knees are not the best at 70 years old this this suited me ideally! Now the entrance is up a hill and takes a good ten to 15minutes to reach the entrance to the gardens (past the lovely New cafe with shopping gift items) with knees like mine I do not think I will be visiting the gardens again as this entrance change is too much of a painful experience.

You will be glad to read that there are plans in place for an additional car park which will be closer to the new visitor centre. It is however likely that this will not be in place until later this year.
We do currently offer parking at the house for anyone who requires it. For your return visit, please drive straight up the avenue and park in the allocated spaces.

Lovely experience in the gardens- tip-go early in the morning. It’s quite a sensory experience, the color palette is wonderful. The lady on the reception desk was charming and helpful.
Only negative is the glacially slow service in the restaurant if you order a cooked dish. A breakfast dish shouldn’t take almost an half hour. Needs a shakeup. MF

Gardens are stunning. What really bothered me was the customer service in the cafe. Lady on the till with red hair was extremely rude, slamming her fingers on the card machine when taking payments from people while sighing.
I have never seen anything like it and ended up putting my drink back and walking out. I was extremely put off by this as this is no way to act at all.
I think about it and I get so mad !!

This is one of the best large gardens in Ireland,its very reasonably priced to enter and there are a lot of great walks with so many plants and trees,it's a great place to take a picnic,there is a very good tea room there and ample free parking

Hi, I would like to know if there is any plans for a Local Link bus to Mount Congreve or any other direct bus service? What about those of us who don't own a car, the only info on how to get there is by car on your website! I mean this is not right in 2023 when we are being urged to usie public transport. You have a page on sustainability but having everyone get there by car is very far from sustainable to be honest.

We have an invalid dog (has problem walking) so have a special enclosed ‘stroller’ for him. Can’t leave him in the car for several hours while we walk the gardens. Will we be permitted entry with him in the stroller?

How do we get from Waterford out to the House and Gardens? What do people do besides drive or take a taxi? Maybe buses from town go out there. And can we tour the house as well on May 15, 2020 the date of our visit? Thanks

Hello, thank you for getting in touch.
There are currently no direct bus routes to Mount Congreve Gardens. You could take a bus to Kilmeaden and then take the train from the Suir Valley Railway station, located just outside Kilmeaden, this stops at our rear gate.
We are also directly on the Waterford Greenway which is a cycle and walking track from Waterford City.
The House is not open for visits.
