‪This museum is the best one I have seen in Ireland, we run into it by chance and even though the "agricultural" part is not my cup of tea, we still visited it and oh boy! You get to see so many artifacts belonging to the whole history of ireland. Reconstructions of villages, kitchens, you can get a very good idea of how people lived throughout history.
The Famine part is very interesting and well explained.
In my opinion this museum is much better than the EPIC exhibition in Dublin.
You get to see the artifacts and learn the facts, highly recommended!‬

‪My husband who is a farmer fancied visiting here as we were staying nearby. We purchased the tickets into the museum and gardens for €9 each. He is into machinery & tractors etc so found this captivating. He said that he has plenty of similar old tools & a vintage tractor ready to be brought back to life in one of the sheds. I thought the information on the great famine was interesting. I found the building in which the exhibits were cold. Overall lots to see here for farm & non-farm enthusiasts alike 🚜🐄. The exhibition is spread out over 2 floors. It is wheelchair & buggy accessible with ramps & lift or stairs to the second floor. ‬

‪the combination of the 2 attractions must be one of the best days out in the country. If you get a fine day you can spend many hours here. Bring a picnic - the castle grounds are ridiculously pretty and loads of walks to wander about on.
The museum itself has multiple areas of interest and you will definitely enjoy your day out or you might not get it at all.... tractors the big attraction but loads of memorabilia of a life that has changed and disappeared from our lands. a simpler time when were mostly self sufficient in rural areas and didn't need soy sauce or avacados from New Zealand.‬

‪As a couple guys visiting Ireland for the first time with Wisconsin farm roots the Museum had our interest as we were exploring the Wexford area for the day. We arrived mid afternoon so we covered the very interesting farm museum and informative famine exhibit in the two hours time just before they closed. On our way back to the car we walked around the very well preserved castle that also existed on the property. We both were quite pleased that we made the stop and saw and learned so much about Irish history.‬

‪This museum is very comprehensive in covering rural Irish life. There are rooms of farm machinery then an exhibition on the Great Famine which is excellent giving the explanation about how the potato blight occurred as well as the consequences. It contexts it with the political and economic context and gives the migration story that occurred afterwards. There are also displays of Irish craft trades in separate shop fronts which is good. There is a small exhibition of Irish travellers with a traditional caravan and there is artwork throughout. It’s part of the Johnstown Castle estate and well worth a visit. ‬

‪It is sometimes difficult to make farm machinery sound interesting. This museum has clearly been put together by knowledgeable enthusiasts, and the newly opened facilities show that an effort is being made to attract a wider range of visitors. That said, I came mainly to see the Famine Exhibition and was not disappointed. This covers a searing period of Irish history, but the way the subject is addressed is well balanced and informative. The selection of items from the archives is good and the interpretive material was well written and presented. It even explained the different varieties of potatoes! The exhibition is housed in a recently refurbished outbuilding near the main permanent exhibition. Personally I prefer not to be exposed to a continuous soundtrack while perusing the exhibits, and would have liked to be able to select it rather than having no choice in the matter. But at least it shows that the curators have made an effort to create an atmosphere, which is difficult given the context. Outside the special exhibition, I found the main museum highly engaging. The large estate map of the Johnstown Demesne was a work of art, with smaller maps alongside it. There is a good selection of horse-drawn vehicles and tack on display, with due emphasis to the everyday working vehicles used in rural Ireland rather than the focus on posh people's carriages that one tends to encounter in more general historical museums. Overall I found it much better than expected, perhaps because there are some truly dire agricultural museums around; this was certainly not one of those.‬

‪Le Château est ouvert à la visite. De gros travaux de rénovation et d’amélioration ont été achevés. Il est possible de visiter l’intérieur. Un nouveau centre pour visiteurs a été ouvert fin juillet 2019.‬

‪Excellent collection of agricultural machinery and related authentic artefacts.
Combined ticket purchased in conjunction with Johnstone castle, give yourselves at least 1.5 hours to take in all of the information, especially the exhibition on the Famine.
Very good facilities, friendly staff and half a day spent between here and Johnstone Castle.
Value for money.‬
