Visited with my wife and adult daughter
They had both visited before and rated it highly, also my wife wanted to see the exhibition staged by her art class.
I am a history buff and Peterborough has a fascinating and varied history. I had been really looking forward to our visit.
I did enjoy the must farm exhibition. I never got any further however as the whole visit was destroyed by what can only be described as a horde of schoolchildren racing around the exhibits on the first floor screeching and shouting with no apparent supervision from the teachers. One felt like asking what the children were actually supposed to be learning as a child zoomed past within inches of me screaming and giggling almost colliding with other poor visitors. I realise in these enlightened times we are expected to nod and smile indulgently at the little darlings but the whole episode was a disgusting shambles.
I will not be visiting again.

Did a day trip from London primarily to see the Must Farm exhibition - it was smaller than I expected and concentrated on the objects discovered when I would have liked more about the structures as well, so I would give 4 stars for that.
I hadn’t originally planned on seeing anything else, but as I now had time, I wandered through the rest of the galleries and it’s a cracking little museum - especially the Norman Cross Gallery (Napoleonic prisoners of war) and the Jurassic and Archaeology galleries.
Great little cafe and shop as well, so 5 stars overall as the museum is permanent while the exhibition is temporary.

Thanks very much for your review. We do appreciate what you're saying re the Must Farm exhibition, but with such a vast amount of information learned about the site (and Bronze Age life!) it simply wasn't possible to fit everything in. However, if you're keen to find out more about the Must Farm structures, you might be interested to know we have an online talk coming up with Mark Knight (Dig Director at Must Farm) especially on the roundhouse architecture. More information here: https://peterborough-museum.arttickets.org.uk/peterborough-museum/online-talk-how-to-build-a-stilted-roundhouse-66cc9d927d1a4

Because Ian our tour guide was so passionate and enthusiastic about the vaults, he really made the tour special. The website says the tour lasts 40 minutes, but we were down there an hour and a half, taking photos, asking questions and finding out more. My 10 year old and 8 year old also loved it, it had humour, jump scares and was very interesting and informative. The projections are good and bring the history to life but just sitting in 'the ghost room' and listening to Ian was the best part.
After the tour you're free to look around the museum, where we found ourselves linking back to information from the tour "oh this is where that would have been" etc.
Highly recommend, something for all ages!

Ian was our guide down into the vaults today- 4 adults and 2 children and we loved it.
Each room has a projected image of a person in character to tell the history/stories of the room at a different point in time.
Ian then added to these stories, going into greater depth about his own experiences in the vaults over the past few years. He was very enthusiastic, interested and knowledgeable, willing to answer questions, take photos and let us wander around at the end of the tour, with no rushing. Thank you Ian!
We then ventured into the museum which has lots of great information about the peterborough through the various ages including Roman, Napoleonic, prehistoric, war time, and links to when the museum was a hospital.
Go on, take a visit. Always check the website during school holidays as they always have so many different activities going on.

I visited on a Tuesday morning and it was bustling! Lots of people of all ages were there to see the exhibit and other things. People were enjoying the cafe. The person working reception/shop was very friendly.

We took the train over from St Neots to view two exhibitions. The first one was the Must Farm archaeology and the other for Peterborough Railways. The former was interesting but we expected there to be more exhibits than there actually were on display so it was a bit of an anticlimax. The railway exhibition was very interesting and there is a lot more to see, mainly by way of old Peterborough photographs and display boards to read. It proved difficult to read these boards at times because of visitors talking extremely loudly. Two blokes who were museum employees were the worst offenders and it wasn't as if they were engaged in anything constructive as they were just making loud juvenile conversation. Then they would disappear, only to reappear later making the same loud and juvenile comments. Other than the inconsiderate visitors and employees the exhibitions are worth visiting.

We visited the museum on a Saturday afternoon, and as this is a free activity we're pleasantly surprised at the quality of the museum. We explored all 3 floors and found the exhibits interesting and informative as they explore the history of Peterbourgh from the age of dinosaurs complete with specimens excavated from the area.

Originally a private house now a small museum and art gallery. Couple of minutes walk from cathedral and main shopping area. Excellent display of objects made by Napoleonic prisoners of war and an insight into prisoners living conditions. Museum is e eon 3 floors but a lift is available and there is a small tea room on the ground floor.
Missed being a 5 star because the lady on reception didn't even look up or acknowledge us on arrival or departure. Perhaps I'm being petty but a smile really does make people feel welcome and encourage them to return

A lovely museum with lots of interesting things to see-but an entry fee applies in school holidays. Reasonable, but I did expect the advertised “Time Quest” to be a little more than a home printed sheet which my daughter had to write the correct year on and a colouring sheet at the end. I’d have been less disappointed if there hadn’t been a themed week promised. I felt let down. It seemed half hearted and amateur.

Interesting little museum. Friendly reception on (free) entry and we found it very enlightening as regards Peterborough and especially its Napoleonic prison.
Really appreciated the lifts as we have limited mobility. NB the ground floor lift is slightly tucked away so ask reception if you need it.
