Based on the one-way system near the bottom of East Hill, this art centre has been in existence for about 10 years and in that time I have visited on a number of occasions. It has various art displayed all the year round in a couple of rooms to the back of the building all the art can be purchased. There are also reasonably regular exhibitions in the front of the building from local amateur artists or photographers. They also run regular painting classes and there is a picture framer who they recommend. The last two years has also seen the gallery have a pop up shop in Bluewater. Well worth a visit.

Good art from local artists - priced reasonably and plenty of choice. Well worth a journey into Dartford just to visit.

This place always makes me smile, the artwork ranges from the rustic to the amazing. What a fantastic place for people to showcase their art and how lucky we are to be able view it!

I have a vested interest in the What If? because I manage it with the Principal Ruth Howard(as Volunteers). It now approaches it's 11yr and is gaining a keen reputation for it's diversity of art shown in it's 3 gallery rooms. It is a charity run by volunteers some of whom are artists themselves. There are many art workshops going on run by some of the artists. Ruth is a very experienced watercolourist and her well known Tuesday workshop is extremely popular in the local community and beyond.
The walls display a real diversity of art styles and photography also some local ceramic artists work. Original small pieces of art work start for as little as £35. The ethos is to give all artists a chance to show work at a very reasonable price especially young people to experience the excitement of their 1st Exhibition. Most of the art is from amateur artists and at times professionals. The gallery has also had the opportunity to show it's work in a Pop-up shop at the prestigious Bluewater Shopping Centre on 2 occasions now and this has been extremely popular with the public.

Looking like a picture frame shop, I have driven past the 'What If?' gallery many times, as it is located on the one way system into town, at the end of the high street. Although it is in a very convenient location, with plenty of nearby parking, to my shame I've never visited before. However with some rare child-free time to spare, I'm very glad I did. What a wonderful discovery, the small premises is a true art gallery and shop, a co-operative run by local artists for local artists. Consisting of only three rooms and a connecting hallway, art created by local artists adorns each and every wall. Exhibitions are also put on throughout the year by featured photographers, sculptors, painters and artists of all types, so there is usually something new to see. This isn't just a passive art gallery either, many pieces are available to buy, and you can also take part in one of the very reasonably priced watercolour lessons (£5 for two hours) or oil painting lessons (£10 per session), although these do need to be booked in advance, At the time of our visit there was an art class taking place, with many creative people sat around a central table as you enter, but you are made to feel very welcome. It doesn't take long to see and appreciate it all, but it is well worth a visit whenever in town, and the diversity of art and artistic styles ensures that there is bound to be something you like.
