Walked from Otford to Dartford.. Not very well signed and lost my way several times. There are a number of green Footpath signs in the area but none give the path number so can not be identified on a map or say where they lead to. A permissive path which would keep you off the busy narrow road by Castle Farm as far as Lullingstone park was not marked, whereas there was a sign indicating that the way was down the road!

Less than a mile from Dartford town centre and a similar distance from the M25, here is a beautiful freshwater lake fed from the local River Darent. Obviously popular with anglers, it is also a fantastic place around which to walk. One could be anywhere! It certainly does not give the impression of being so close to urban areas.

I walked the Darent Valley path as part of my Canterbury Pilgrimage in the middle of September.
The weather was great which only accentuated the beauty of the countryside.
It's not an overly challenging walk compared to some of the terrain that I've encountered on other hikes, but it's a very pleasant walk especially the portions that follow the waterways.
Pick a nice sunny day to do it, and you can't really go wrong.

The Darent Valley Path stretches from Dartford Marshes to Sevenoaks town centre and it is 19 miles long.
We enjoy walking and particularly like taking a leisurely stroll along some of the many riverside footpaths – the views across the valley are breath-taking and it is good exercise. While walking the various footpaths you will see the remains of a Roman Villa, two historic castles, lavender fields, plenty of good pubs, ancient churches and some really pretty villages.

I have walked various stretches of this 19 mile path over many years. The most recent part I walked was that from Dartford town centre to the river Thames. Once you leave Dartford town centre you walk alongside the river all the way to the Thames. You pass by numerous trading estates and then go under the Bob Dunn Way (A206) onto the marshes. Here is where the Vickers Aircraft Company tested their aircraft and in recent years there has been a scrambling bike circuit. The end of the path is at the Dartford Flood Barrier on the Thames. You can then either retrace your tracks or return on various other routes.

I've walked the path from Horton Kirby to just beyond Otford many times. I prefer a more challenging path but often take friends who prefer a more sedate outing. You can get in a lot of miles but this section of the path is pretty flat. The trail is well worn/maintained and easy to follow, much of it is under big shady trees which makes it a perfect outing in the warm summer. There are numerous pubs, parks, and attractions along the way so you can stop for lunch, refreshments, or all importantly, a loo! Passing by the lavender fields at the Hop Shop farm is especially enjoyable and smells divine! A great day out!

The Darent Valley Path is a fully waymarked route covering some 19 miles from the River Thames all the way through the Kent Downs area of outstanding natural beauty and on towards Sevenoaks. Being so long its perhaps best to tackle it in sections, stopping off to see many of the local sights along the way, which includes castles, historic buildings, parks, shops, pubs, lavender fields, stunning views and even a golf course. The route is not well publicised, the Darenth Valley Path Guide at the time of writing is out of print and only available on loan from the local library, however Kent Country Council do provide an online interactive map that displays the path's route.

A sensible, but not crazy challange for a day walking from the Thames esturary to Sevenoaks (there is another branch that ends in a slightly different location as well) This is lovely walk often the riverside which is nice and though some pretty Kent villages, and pass (well near in one case) not one but two castles check it out. check out OS maps or the LDWA website for exact routes
